Back To School – My Daily Schedule

If you have read my “about me” page, then you have read number 17 where I say “I love schedules – I love typing them up, living by them and dreaming of the next one!” So I am excited to say – “no more summer lazy days – it’s time for a NEW SCHEDULE!!!! Hooray!”
Why do I write out my daily schedule? Because it keeps my priorities a priority.

What are my priorities?
1. To have a morning quiet time

2. To be sure all of my husbands needs and wants are met

3. To train my children in the way of the Lord

4. To home school my children 2 1/2 hours a day

5. To keep a clean and orderly home.

6. To get enough rest

7. To exercise daily

8. To keep up with this blog

So how am I going to squeeze all of this in every single day? I have a plan – I call my plan – my daily schedule. The reality is life happens and I will not be able to stick to this schedule perfectly – but my schedule is my guide and it keeps my priorities a priority.

So here is our Back-to-School Daily Schedule:
6:30am – wake and have my quiet time

6:55am – post my blog (which is written the night before), email the Good Morning Girls, Check Facebook – post a status, read my favorite blogs.

8am – make and serve breakfast – read the Bible with the children while they eat their breakfast

8:30am – Do morning chores along side the children

9am – School begins

10am
– free / play time for kids while I exercise

10:45am
-School time

11:45am
– prepare lunch

12:00pm – Serve lunch

12:30pm
– free/play time

1:30pm – finish school work for the day

2:00pm – kids rest time/room time while I check email, Facebook and blogs

3:00pm Snack and television time for kids – while I do housework

4:00pm
– free time / housework

5:00pm – make dinner

5:30pm – serve dinner

Family time

7:30 – Story time

8pm – bedtime for kids

Chill time for mommy / Write the next morning’s blog

9:30pm10:30pm– time with my husband

10:59pm – bedtime (my goal is to go to bed while there is a ten on the clock and to get up while there is a 6 on the clock – this guarantees 7-8 hours of sleep every night – 7 days a week)

Through out the week I will insert different activities for the children such as baking together, swimming and gymnastics lessons, flag football practice, women’s Bible study group for me and other fun things like play dates and trips to museums.

Have you written a fall daily schedule? I’d love to hear about it – feel free to share it in the comments section. To see my spring schedule I posted last March go here…

  1. Hi there. Found you on Piper's blog. I homeschool too! It's my 5th year into it. I used to be super organized like you, but then after having babies in the house, schedules went by the wayside. However, what I LOVE to do is give my older girls their own schedule so they can check it off the list. Oh they love that. Plus it keeps them motivated to get it done when they see how much they have left. I have a 2nd grader and a 5th grader. I also have a toddler. So life can get hairy. I think schedules are good but just keep in mind that some days won't always go according to plan and we need to just take a breath and realize this is why we homeschool. It's flexible enough so that if one subject or task doesn't get done, we have tomorrow…or Saturday or possibly Dad can help with that one. Good luck in your school year. It's nice to meet you!

  2. I'm glad you posted this today. I've been working on developing a schedule this afternoon. I crumbled up and threw away my first draft. Hopefully I'll get something better in line before the day is done.

Having a general guideline for what the kids should be working on seems like it would help get things done during the day.

  3. Ahhh…what a calm and relaxed homeschool schedule you have! I remember those days! I now have 7 children ages 11 down to 7 months, and 4 of them are schooling this year. My schedule is not done yet, but it will be jam packed and will blow my unorganized mind ;-)! But, I too, love the structure, and look forward to it. Enjoy these early days with your little ones! It goes by so fast, and before you know it, they are in the 6th grade!

  4. Love that you have your objectives listed first. It always helps to work out a schedule when you have goals and priorities in mind. My biggest prayer this fall as I organized all of our events into one calendar and thought through what my days will look like was to remember two things: Serve with joy and simplify as much as possible.

  5. Oh homeschooling mama's I love to hear from you!!!

I bet I could learn a lot off of you! Thanks for chiming in – we are in the same boat together – except well, most – if not all – of you have more kids than me – so I know you have greater challenges!!! You are inspirations!

Kudos to you!!! Have a great school year!

  6. Did it go well today?

We area not starting until Sept. I have 2 more weekends to get our schoolroom back in order.

Our day is never the same it seems. hee. But at least we keep the morning and afternoon the same on M,W,F. Tuesday's is our homeschool group day as well as piano. Thursday is a day off for me. The girls still have work to do on their own with a checklist, as we usually get behind by Thurs. But, at least, I do not teach on Thurs so I can have one day to clean and get groceries/etc.

  7. Terri – thanks for sharing your schedule! I love to hear how other moms juggle it all!

Yes, our homeschooling days are going GREAT – all two of them hehe! Today I'll put a third one under my belt! We are having so much fun – I think I'm in the honeymoon phase! I hope the fun continues!

  8. Courtney,

I was curious what curriculum you use? I am in my 3rd year of homeschooling and I am looking for a curriculum for my son who will be in Kinder. I noticed the computer and was wondering if yours is computer based.

  9. Andrea,

Yes, we are computer based and use the K12 program. We are enrolled in Ohio's Virtual Academy – it's a public school homeschool program and they give you the computer, printer, books etc. for free. It is not a Christian curriculum – so it is lacking.

But I love the computer base and I am right there with my son to throw in all the Christian stuff I want and to correct anything that is off base.

I love it! And we will be using it again next year!
    Courtney
