How To Get New Clothes Inexpensively: Clothes Swap!

Here’s part of the clothes swap group (sorry it’s blurry!) – we are missing a few!
Here comes Janelle from Comfy In The Kitchen with her bag of clothes!
Each girl chose a section of the room to display their clothes.
Clare from Peak 313 Fitness scored my Easter 2009 dress!  It fits!  Hooray!
Look what I found!  Gorgeous!
Becky has on a new t-shirt, necklace and shoes (plus an arm full!)
Here’s what I wore to church on Sunday – my brand new blue shirt and new necklace – free! (the skirt is from a resale shop – so this is a $6 outfit minus the boots – which are Payless!)  Everytime my friend Kelly wore this shirt I admired it – now it’s mine!  Thanks Kelly!
I got some serious accessories! This matching new scarf, purse and earrings – JACKPOT!!
These are fun!  Some more accessories –  purse, shoes and necklace!  I did not take pictures of everything – but I had about 7 more shirts, 2 skirts, some flip flops and more!
Does your closet need a spring cleaning – clean it out and encourage your friends to do it too! Then invite them over for a swap!  We had SO much fun and lots of laughter!
We finished all our swapping out with 2 Chocolate Chip Pies that I made – but of course – they were Janelle’s recipe!  It was SO fast, easy and delicious – you gotta try this recipe sometime!

  1. You are very lucky to have such a big group of girlfriends that look like they are all about the same size. My gals and I vary so much in size, we'd never be able to pull this off with success 🙂 Maybe an accessories exchange!

    Blessings,

  2. I totally relate with Getz. I´m the "petite" in my girl-friends group. But I think it´s a great idea!!! And an accesories exchange… WOW!!!! 🙂

  3. You are a blessed woman to have so many friends!

I have added your link up to my Blog Library so others can find it more easily! 🙂

  4. This looks like so so much fun! We've done it with kiddos' clothes before, but I've never thought to do this with mommy-stuff 🙂

  5. Thanks for sharing this idea of a Clothing Swap! I'd never thought to do it in a small way like that 🙂 A few ladies and myself are organizing our second clothing swap with several of our adult Sunday school classes at church in which we include women's clothing & accessories, maternity clothes, men's and children's clothing too! We've decided that whatever doesn't get taken by someone goes to a local Rescue Mission (serving the poor, needy and those coming out of addictions in a rather poor large city in our area). We're excited about how the Lord might grow the swap (possibly to include the needy in our local community?), but I would also enjoy doing a smaller swap such as you've suggested 🙂 Thanks for your continued encouragement to Live Well!

  6. I recently had this idea, but wondered how it could be pulled off…and you did it! Wowzers – great times! 🙂

  7. I agree with Getz and Priscilla, you are blessed to have a group of friends with similiar sizes and tastes. The group I have is such differant sizes – ranging from size 0 to size 24, it would never work. I've heard of people doing this before and wondered how it would work. Now I see – ya gotta hang with people who are the same size!! 🙂 I should also say, I'm not a garage saler or a thrift store shopper so, this doesn't fit me personal way to shop anyway but I'm glad it worked for you!

  8. Yay! That was so much fun and I have worn several things from it already! To those of you who commented about sizes of girls…we actually had a diverse group of girls as far as size, height, weight, and body type and somehow we managed to make it work..its possible!:) More than anything I was happy to see my unused clothes being enjoyed by someone else (like that purple dress in courtney's pic-wish it still fit!!lol) It was super easy to organize and lots of fun so I say try it out!!! Im sure we will be doing it again in the future!

  9. I just love those old-fashioned looking white and black shoe/boots or whatever they're called. 🙂 Too cute! Looks like a wonderful good time was had by all — what a great idea! If only my friends and I all wore the same size…

  10. My friends and I have been talking about doing a "swap" for a while now. Thanks for the inspiration!

  11. We did a "homegoods" swap one year, mirrors and framed pictures, all kinds of fun things for the house. That way you get around the size issue.

  12. This makes me really miss the clothes swap that I used to host with my neighbor 🙁 Too bad we had to move but another one is starting to brew in the back of my mind. I love clothes swaps!

  13. Sounds like fun..but i’m afraid with the girls I know it would create drama for not getting invited cause there are so many of them. ..or offended. Happened with my son’s birthday party this last year, I accidently forgot a girl’s two boys and she confronted me about it and I didn’t purposely exclude them and made it known online..but whatever (then proceeded to tell me she would’ve been able to make it anyway after making a scene!!)! ugh. Sounds like such a fun thing though.

  14. So what are the details? Do people bring like, say, 10 items and then they can take 10 items? Or bring whatever and take whatever? Do y’all just walk around and take whatever you want? I would like to organize one for my church, just wondering the details of how you do it without any drama 😉

    1. There were 10 girls there but only 6 brought clothes – since we are all close friends – everyone was generous and even girls who didn’t bring clothes took clothes (they just weren’t in the pics). But if I was doing it with a larger group – you might have to make a limit like 5 items only – I’m not sure how to organize it in a larger group – I apologize 🙁 What I do know is everyone brought lots of stuff…like 15 items each – but only about 5 of each persons were an actual fit – so not everything you bring gets taken necessarily.

      Hope that helps.

  15. Hi there! This post couldn’t be written any better!
Reading this post reminds me of my old room mate! He always kept talking about this.
I will forward this post to him. Pretty sure he will have a good read.

    Thank you for sharing!
