How Do I Clean In The Midst of These Kids?

This is an excellent question and I have found this to be one of the greatest challenges as a mom with little ones. It’s obvious that when we compare which is more important – cleaning vs. your children – that the children are more important.  BUT I don’t look at these two as mutually exclusive. Our goal as moms should not be to entertain our children and to coral them from one fun activity to the next. They need to fellowship in the daily activities of their parents. Our children need to be praised for more than just sitting quietly while they watch Elmo. They should find purpose, comfort, and joy at the side of their mother.

Now while we all can nod our heads in agreement that this is what we want for our children, living this out is terribly difficult.  It takes a lot of patience, endurance and organization to create a system where this works. And truly, most days it takes a lot of prayer and deep breaths! Lol!

Glynnis Whitwer, a writer for Proverbs 31 Ministries, has invited me to guest post at her blog today!  She is doing a series on Spring Cleaning – Click HERE to visit me there and read the end of “How Do I Clean In the Midst of These Kids?”  And then click around and read some of the other fabulous posts on spring cleaning!

  1. Getting them to “help us” can make things take longer, but soon they get proficient at it and really do work alongside you. It gets a little harder (in a good way) when all four of them want to “help” at the same time.

  2. Hi Courtney!
This is my first time here! Nice to meet you! I loved your thoughts on motherhood… I have 3 small ones of my own. God has done so much work on me to forget the perfect house to have God filled kids instead! -Blessings sister, Amy Alves

  3. Hi there! I just read your post over at Glynnis’ and left you a comment there but had to come by and tell you again how much I am loving your site(s) 🙂 I can’t wait to take a look around and check out more!

P.S. My sister and I will be guest posting as part of Glynnis’ series on Monday!

  4. I just discovered your blog through Glynnis’ series. I am definitely adding your blog to my favorites! I have a question…I don’t have little ones. I am the “one-night-a-week-and-every-other-weekend” stepmom to two teens who have not been part of the process of running a home. At this stage what are some suggestions for encouraging their contributions and responsibility for self without resorting to bribery? God bless!

  5. HAHA! I loved this title! Oh how I feel that way many days… I clean up one mess just to turn around to another. I am learning to let go and prioritize. My goal is always to make people a priority over things and tasks… not always easy! 😉 Thanks for sharing!
