Misty writes:

As Christians we long to gain wisdom. We spend much of our lives in pursuit of it and often wonder why we fail to gain it.

The truth is, we often complicate the simplicity of gaining wisdom.

God does not make us stumble our way through life trying to figure things out on our own. He gave us His Word to guide us through every step of our way.

In Proverbs 3, we find instructions for what we need to pursue in order to live long, wisdom filled lives.

We are given keys to gain wisdom.

Using these keys is our choice.

Key #1

Peace, mercy and truth are keys to living holy lives.  God desires that we write these things upon our hearts and in doing so we will find favor with Him and man. If we, as Christians live peacefully, offering mercy when others deserve otherwise and are honest in all things, can you imagine how much different the world would be?

These 3 things could change the world for Christ, if we would only pursue and cling tightly to them throughout our lives!

Proverbs 3:5,6 Trust in the Lord with all your heart...

Key #2

Trusting God with all of our heart, not trying to make it through life on our own and acknowledging Him throughout all we do –are keys to receiving His direction for every step that we take.

We cannot see beyond the step we are on, so we must learn to trust God and be obedient to what we already know, seek His direction for what we don’t and always remember that He wants the best for us.

We will make mistakes.

No matter how much wisdom we gain, we will stumble and fall.

Not one of us is perfect.

Key #3

God will correct us when we fail to follow His instructions, but each correction we receive from His hand is offered with love. He desires that we learn from Him, to pursue Him and His ways.

“My son, do not despise the Lord‘s discipline
or be weary of his reproof,
for the Lord reproves him whom he loves,
as a father the son in whom he delights.”
~Proverbs 3:11,12

We must remember that through His correction, God is molding us to be conformed to His image.

Key #4

It is through our obedience that wisdom is gained.

The pursuit of wisdom is a journey that we should be excited to continue on throughout our lives. There is nothing that can be compared with wisdom, nothing in this world that we desire is anything like her.

The riches of wisdom are abundant and priceless!

Every obedient step we take brings us closer to the treasure of wisdom.

Proverbs 3:13-15 says:

Blessed is the one who finds wisdom,
and the one who gets understanding,
for the gain from her is better than gain from silver
and her profit better than gold.
She is more precious than jewels,
and nothing you desire can compare with her.

Wisdom is attainable.

We can make wise decisions and choices throughout our lives, all that is required is our obedience to God’s instructions in His word.

It’s often the simplest steps we complicate that keep us from gaining that which we desire.

Take God at His word, trust His leading and begin the pursuit of wisdom through obedience today!

  1. Thank you for a wonderful introduction into Proverbs 3! I actually mentioned a part of Key #2 in my own journaling today. I admit that I take it for granted that God and his wisdom is always there. I don’t seek it out nearly as often as I should. After a health diagnosis a few months ago, I had to learn to let go of “my schedules” and hand A LOT over to God. I still struggle with that, so Key #2 is one I’m working hard at to put into action more in my daily steps through my new path in my journey! It is a ‘habit’ I hope to be able to share, reinforce and reignite in my four children as well.
    Blessings!
    Susan S.

    1. Susan, this year God called me to live life “unplanned”, I am an OCD, over the top planner by nature, so this calling required that I lay aside myself and pursue life as God wanted me to this year. Seeking Him and relying on Him to keep me on track without forgetting things this year has been a wonderful journey and I’ve learned the beauty of letting go and enjoying the moments. Trusting Him has become a part of each day and I’m thankful that I followed His calling to live “unplanned”. I’m praying for you as you continue to trust Him in ALL things! <3

      1. Misty, What you wrote about living an “unplanned” life.. this sounds like God speaking to ME through your comment. I never thought about how God asking me to trust Him also means letting go of my plans and over-the-top organized days. Wow. Thank you, Lord

  2. My greatest blessings have been more peace, more opportunities to “take matters to God,” and really just use Him as a compass for my life’s journey. It is exhausting and overwhelming to rely on yourself {or so I have found!}. I am so thankful that I can turn to God and let him shoulder the decision making!

    1. It truly is wonderful to leave the decisions in God’s capable hands, knowing that He knows the end from the beginning makes it the best decision we can make! Blessings!

    2. Natalie I totally agree that peace is a blessing. Our church just ended a study of James and the whole quick to listen, slow to speak and slow to anger aspect helps with the peace process.

  3. Peace. When I surrender to my trust in God, I receive overwhelming peace and rest. Conversely, when I attempt to forge my own path, disaster always ensues. Thank you for the reminder of how simple and easy God meant our life to be – if we only will trust Him!

    1. Oh yes, peace…the true peace that only comes from God alone. What a wonderful blessing it is! Simplicity is a wonderful gift that God has given us, if we would only pursue it as He desires us to! Blessings!

  4. Thank you for your godly insight! I love it when someone gives me steps or “keys” when studying Scripture. In a sense, a summary, that gets to the heart of what God is saying and how we can attain what He wishes for us. Once God asked me to “stay near” to Him. Sounds simple and it is simple if we don’t let life get in the way. When we stay near to Him, realizing He’s always with us and we can trust Him with everything, we are better equipped to walk in His ways and glorify Him.

    1. Yes, having keys pointed out is very helpful to me as well! I’m glad that it helped you dig deeper into God’s word Meg! Many blessings!

  5. my ‘blind’ faith. I have always been thankful to my parents for teaching us about God since such a young age. As I have grown up it has truly been my foundation. This last month has been a very trying time for me. I have encountered more than I ever have and its all at once. I am working on #2. I know I must trust in the Lord and I DO but …. at times its hard not to question and wallow and have your moments. its very easy to say but when you are going through a tumultuous time…. your faith truly is tested. but i know all will be well. The verse Proverbs 3:5-6 has been given to me numerous times in the past month by people that don’t know each other. and I also came across this study on Proverbs. I know this is a sign so again… I just will continue to remind myself every day to trust and put everything in His hands. Thank you for this study. Looking forward to it!

    1. Oh yes Monica, in the midst of trials it can be difficult to trust, but those are the times when we must hold tightly to the promises God gives us throughout His word. He will bring us through the hard times and with Him by our side we’ll come out stronger than we were before! Praying for you!

  6. My greatest blessing is that the creator of this world and the giver of All life looked at me and said,”I Love you just as you are”. Then, if that were not enough, has not stop showing me His love and even entrusted me to be a carrier of His precious Holy Spirit. What an honor it is to share in the blessings of Christ our savior Jesus. I can’t help but pinch myself to remind me that it is real. Thank You, Mighty God and Bless Your Holy Name.

    1. It truly is a blessing that we do not even fully comprehend to be loved just as we are by the Creator of All! Many blessings Michele!

  7. Hi Misty and all,

Thanks for the great post for Proverbs 3. I learned a lot with the Scripture and your posting.

It has been a short time since I have accepted Him into my heart as my Lord and Savior. I have been seeking Him for a long time and I have often walked away prior to acceptance due to life circumstances. But since I have accepted Him, one of the biggest blessings is realizing His presence in my life all along despite the things that have happened. And for that I do feel extremely gracious, humble and admittedly foolish. He has been there with me all along, and I just couldn’t see it because of my anger, pride, emotions who knows what. No words can ever express the amount of Thank Yous.

    JD

    1. So excited to hear of another’s new found faith. Thank you for sharing. I will pray God’s Word becomes real in your life and that it would dwell in you richly. Many blessings dear sister in Christ.

    2. Oh what a wonderful thing grace is. Without it we would be nothing…leaving behind the old and pressing forward to the mark that is set before us! That is where our eyes must be JD, always forward! Welcome to the family! <3

  8. Thank you, Misty for sharing. My biggest blessing has been losing the stressors of life. I have learned to be still and know He is God. If I am in lack, He has always provide. There was a time I would stress because I needed something and did not know where it was coming from, but not anymore. I know my Father will not withhold any good thing from me. I have also been bless to see God hands moving in my life. I thank God for opening my eyes to see what I was missing. Thank you for you words of wisdom, and may God continue to pour into you, that you may pour in to us. God bless you.

    1. Letting go stress and trusting that God will always provide is such a huge step! Praying that God will continue to increase your faith! Blessings Marie!

  9. the biggest blessing I have gained through Gods wisdom is knowing Him. Understanding who He is. I have been a Christian long enough and have asked and search for things that I thought pertained to life and Godliness, but knowing Him and who He is and what He wants to do through is what has kept me through so many trials and storms of life. That’s the beginning of wisdom. The scripture that states ” if a man boast let him boast in this that he knows and understands me (God)” Jer. 9:23

    1. Truly knowing God is a such a blessing and it does help tremendously when we’re faced with trials and difficulties! Blessings Lena!

  10. My biggest blessing has been the miracle of tithing and having all that I need provided. I don’t understand the mystery of how we can give what seems to be more than we can afford and still have enough to pay the bills and have left over! Proverbs 3:9 mentions honoring the Lord with your wealth and giving the first fruits. My husband and I took the leap of faith to tithe when we made so little and had five children at home and yet God was faithful and our “barns were always full”!
Thank you for your “Keys”! I always need help remembering that God is merciful and I must be also! I journaled a cross reference today to Micah 6:8-“Seek justice, love mercy, walk humbly with your God”.

    1. I will tell anyone that tithing works. I have seen the difference from when I didn’t tithe to when I did tithe. It is truly a blessing to see first hand that God will honor his Word of we are obedient.

  11. Hope, peace, healing, and a closer feeling to Him. I have hope that God will help me through all things but they would be a lot easier to handle when I pray to Him about it and give them to Him, let go of trying to do it all in my strength. I also have a lot of healing and improvement in my relationships with my husband, children, and others. Peace is an awesome thing to hold tightly to!

    1. Melissa, letting go is a difficult thing to do, but when we open our hands and release that which we’re clutching tightly, God gives us the peace that we desire and our life is filled with strength renewed! Praying for you!

  12. My biggest blessing I have received is Eternal life through Jesus Christ. Also, God’s guidance, comfort, and love.

  13. You ministry had really grown Misty. Look at you on the GMG team! So awesome to see where you are at from testimonies from where you have been.

This is my second study with GMG and as always a great experience to be connected with others reading the same thing. Many of us learning so many different things from the same verses.

Feel free to find me on Facebook. My apologies to our incident before. A lot has changed since then. Hope you can forgive me for offending you in the past.

    Amy Ritchie

    1. God is good and continues to bless me far above that which I could have imagined. I’m so glad that you’re continuing on with GMG and enjoying studying God’s word alongside other women! All is grace…

  14. I think that sometimes the Lord uses a combination of situations and Key# 3 (loving reproof) to get us to Key# 2, where we can say with a pure heart that our trust is solely in Him. I have never been very good at budgeting, saving money, couponing, etc. When my husband and I got married, we were blessed to be able to rent a family member’s home for really inexpensive, which left us in a position where we didn’t have to be diligent with a budget. Fast forward several years, and after the death of our family member, the home will most likely be purchased by another family member, and we have been overwhelmed by the search for a home to purchase or rent. We live in an area in the northeast, where housing is expensive, both in renting or buying. Looking back, I wish that I had been a better steward of my finances, yet right now, there’s absolutely nothing I can do but repent & put my trust in the Lord.
While I wish that we weren’t in this circumstance, I know that I wouldn’t be in the place where I realized that no area of this life can be walked without Him. That’s my biggest struggle. Before I thought I could say that I trusted the Lord, but when situations arise or things get stripped away from your life, you realize what level of trust you really have in Him. I’m not there yet, but I pray that this study in Proverbs is just the beginning of a deeper trust relationship with the Lord.

    1. Oh yes, Laura, often we say we trust the Lord in all things, and then we find ourselves in a situation where our trust is put to the test! Just how far will we go in trusting God with all things? I am praying for your housing situation… remember that God WILL supply all your needs! <3

  15. I’ve read proverbs before but i’ve never study it like this, actually this is my first study with the group and I’m really excited. I feel like This study has come has complement to the deep reading I have been doing in Hebrews 11, the main thing in our life’s is to have faith in God because without faith no-one can please him and the second is wisdom and they are both connected and I’m so excited to learn more and more about this every day. Thank you for all off your work.

    1. Welcome to the group Cristina! Faith and wisdom do go hand in hand! Without faith we can not grow in the wisdom of the Lord! Praying for you as you seek Him!

  16. I’ve been reading your website for about a year, Courtney. I don’t comment enough to thank you for all the time and effort you put into this blog. I’m doing this study in a Facebook group called “Feed Me” with a dozen women. I’m so thankful for these resources and it thrills my heart to see women I love (some in my own family!) digging deeper into God’s word and growing in relationship with Christ and eachother. Thank you doesn’t seem like enough!

    1. It is such a blessing for me to be part of the Good Morning Girls ministry with Courtney! I’m so glad to hear that it is a blessing to you as well! Thank you for joining us Windy!

  17. At first I thought my greatest blessing is my children, but then realized that in light of Proverbs 3 I have learned obedience to God in my submission to those that He has placed in authority over my life.

  18. One word, PEACE! I have gained peace, by (fully) relying on God. I know the difference. It is hard not to lean to my own understanding. But that’s when God’s strength and power are made perfect through the difficult situation. Thank you Misty.

(I am a former homeschool mom. I have to say reading Proverbs just for ME is more difficult than I thought. LOL I keep seeing things I can tell my son SO I say NO>>>> this is for you Sue. It is a good challenge)

    1. LOL! Yes! I understand Sue, I often find myself thinking, my kids need to read this! I then have to stop and go back and apply it to my own life! 🙂 Blessings!

  19. The greatest blessing in my life since relying on God’s wisdom is peace and joy. I was deeply betrayed by people I loved so much. Yet as I dealt with the hurt and anguish, I found peace in forgiving their sins and my own sins. Jesus wants us to forgive like he does. I may not have quite attained that level of forgiveness, but I feel I have come close. The peace and joy I feel from living my life like Jesus desires is so amazing.

    1. The giving of forgiveness opens us up to God working in us so much deeper than when we hold tightly to the hurt inside us. Praising God that you have worked through the hurt in your life and have given the gift of forgiveness to those that brought you pain in the past! Blessings Stacy!

  20. My Spiritual Healing ~ Also the healing of my mind ~ I was giving a death sentence by my doctors B/C I have a very rare illness That has no cure ~ A transplant can give me more time but is not a cure ~ In 2008 after my diagnosis, I got full of self pity, anger and all the ugly feelings that welded up in my mind and spirit almost breaking my faith completely ~ But The lord found a way back into my heart BC he knew I still loved him , So he used my fear of losing my son to drugs to lead me back to church and it turned my life completely around ~ I was lead to Renew to help understand my sons addictions , Which lead me to the her life bible studies and church threw them I found my faith and Learned to lay all my suffering at my Lords feet ~ My sons off drugs now, My family’s all going to church and seeking the Lord~ My daughter spirit’s on fire like her momma and we just cannot stop learning the word ~ we been set on fire for the Lords wisdom I words ~ And I have a much deeper love and relationship with my Lord ~ I have a stronger understanding of the Bible . I’m no longer afraid to die ~ And I’ve learned that my relationship and spirituality are the most important healing in my life even over my physical healing not that I don’t want it or pray for it I do but I’m comfortable In letting his ways his words and his will be my drive to endure all by his loving Grace ~

    1. God’s ways are not our own and the miracles He performs in us when we least expect it are such wonderful blessings! Praising God that He fulfilled miracles in your life and your family’s as well! Blessings Terry!

  21. The greatest blessing I have received since relying on God is mental peace. I have suffered from Obsessive Compulsive Disorder for many years and have attempted suicide once. Since relying on God I have become more mentally strong and able to survive my mental illness.

  22. My biggest blessing has been a more better understanding and since I joined this study group on June 15th, I have gotten closer to my new sister. ♡ (I knew she was a Christian & asked if she wanted to do it with me 🙂 )

    1. That is truly a wonderful blessing Kelli! So glad that you and your sister have joined us and that through these studies you are drawing closer together! <3

    1. Yes, when we try to think outside of what God’s word says we can become confused. It is such a blessing to just rely on Him and take Him at His word!

  23. Hi Misty,

Thank you for sharing this. I appreciate it. The wisdom that I have learned since I started to read the word of God every day is more than I could ever learn from anywhere and from anyone else.

    Sincerely,

    Jessica Medina

  24. I love the bible study in Proverbs and this site and your ministry that you are doing.
I am divorce and a empty nester and was wondering if there is any other women out there that are single and living alone on this site.

  25. My greatest blessing has been the ability to discern God’s voice. In the past I would beg and beg God to speak to me so that I could know what he wants for my life. I learned to continue reading His word and that still soft voice will get louder. I have heard this voice time and time again and It has helped/saved me from heartache, disappointment, and making wrong choices.

  26. I am way, way late to this discussion but the biggest blessing I have gained is peace and happiness. I am a lot less restless, worried and sad. This has in turn helped me be happier with all aspects of my life. Even my family comments on the change in me. I was a worrier, I worried about everything but now I just give it to God. My husband is more relaxed because he doesn’t have to wonder what I am going to freak out about today. He knows I can now make it through the day without complaining and worrying. I know God is in control and that he has me in his hands!
