The verse of today is:

GMG Prov 6-6[4]

God says “Go to the ant” to learn a lesson about laziness. So a few years back – we did just that!

We got an ant farm and the ants arrived in the mail!

Then we observed them and considered their ways as God Word says.

We watched the ants work together to move the sand and build their tunnels.

At night when it was dark, they all huddled together at the top of the hill. But when day light hit, they got busy and all day long they worked and worked and worked.

No one told them what to do. They simply worked hard to build their home.

As we observed the ants, we discussed all the life lessons that God wants us to learn.

It’s easy to rise from our bed feeling slothful. These “lazy” summer days without the normal routine of school work, can send the kids into a feeling of resentment when I ask something of them.

We must teach our children to be diligent and not make excuses.

So the next time you see an ant hill rather than running for bug spray, pause for a moment, invite the children to come check it out – there is a lesson from God’s word your children need to hear!

Walk with the King,

Courtney

  1. I am loving the book of Proverbs. I struggle with the sin of laziness in my life and I always love turning to the book of proverbs for a stern word from our Lord. Sometimes I need a kick in the backside to get me moving. I use a lot of excuses: “I work full time!” “I’m busy with the kids!” “I’m so tired!” but if the truth were known I just don’t feel like cooking and cleaning most of the time :o) Proverbs is a wonderful book just to get me moving again and that’s just ONE example of the many ways the Lord touches me through this book.
I’m glad we have this amazing blueprint for our lives and we can live to glorify Him!

    1. I so appreciate your honesty, I too suffer with that at times and I don’t even have the excuse of little kids, mine are grown. The world is so busy these days, always demanding our time, so we need to be diligent about setting aside time for God and then following His instruction. All of you young mothers today have an extra hard job and my prayers are for you.

  2. I’m loving this study so far. It’s shown me that we have to keep studying God’s word, even when we think we’ve got it down. There’s always more to learn! This study is helping me stay motivated and is keeping me on track not just with my Bible study, but with everything else daily life calls for. Proverbs really is so motivational.

  3. I am enjoying the book of Proverbs. I believe it will give me wisdom as a wife and mother. I am constantly challenged in these two areas on a daily basis and I need God’s grace and wisdom to help me make wise choices. Last week Wednesday I received a daily Bible verse from a Bible app and it was from Proverbs 3 and that was the same chapter we were reading that day. I believe God was speaking to me and I am grateful for this.

Thanks for all your hard work in preparing the bible study. This is giving me the opportunity to study God’s word and get closer to him. Have a blessed week.

  4. Enjoying your website and the journal and coloring! But just to clarify, we are skipping the weekends and doing the reading plan only Mon-Fri?
    Jeannie

    1. Hi Jeannie – yes, the Bible Reading plan runs just Monday-Friday and then breaks on the weekend for those who need to catch up, want to study deeper into the passage of the week or prepare for their service at church on Sundays.

So glad you are joining us!
      Courtney 🙂

  5. this study has opened my eyes, my spirit. I am enjoying this and think about it all day long, cant wait to get to the next proverbs. I have ready them throughout the years and have some down to memory but taking each chapter and really meditating on it and writing down specifics is amazing. I seriously have seen a change in my thinking this past week with my step-daughter! thanks for hosting this!!!

  6. The words, “my son,” are reminders to me as a parent and grandparent of my responsibility to my family as well as to my self!

  7. I am thoroughly enjoying this study. I’ve read Proverbs before….but I’ve never studied it. I like using S O A K. Thank you for this opportunity to go deeper in the WORD.

  8. Wow… it wasnt but week before last i posted on facebook about ants… look me up on fb and go check it out… what or who besides an almighty God could use something as minute ants to teach us how to work… Gods word never fails to amaze me.. although i had read that scripture many times before, it really resonated with me… so today was a great one here… as is every day.. i love #goodmorninggirls and all that courtney and the team do for Christ, and for us.. so THANK YOU… from Ms…Have a blessed day..

  9. this study has really opened my eyes! God has spoken to me – pointing me to certain scriptures, revealing things that I need to work on. I shared this with a co-worker and we have both been blessed with what we share with each other. This has made me realize that I have gotten too comfortable and not as close to God as I want and need to be. Thank you for what you are doing to bring women closer to God!

  10. I am really enjoying this study! This is my first time with you and I really can see and appreciate all the work that has gone into this ministry, Thank You!
I purchased the Journal book and I am really giving my colored writing tools a workout. On the Scripture of the day page I write out the Discussion Question and the answer. Down the sides I use that space to write key points that your posts bring out or I get from my reading. I use the front cover to glue a copy of the weekly memory verse as I go through the week meditating on it. I see it first every time I open the book. I use the back cover page to write out the memory verse of the week once I have memorized it. I really like how the journal keeps everything together and there is room for thoughts. I really hope you are going to create journals for future studies too.
Next I want to read the Bible in Chronological order in 90 days I hope I am not being to overly ambitious but it just seems right. You can’t get too much of Gods Word. 🙂

  11. I really enjoyed week one in Proverbs I have such a hard time memorizing scripture or anything for that matter. Does anyone have any suggestions Thank you for all of this perfect way to go through the bible Im loving it

    1. Hi Carol,
I too have a difficult time memorizing scripture, especially where its found.
A method I learned in counseling a few years ago that really helped me was to write the verse out on a whiteboard or chalkboard including the book, chapter and verse. Then go through the verse once pointing at each word and saying it aloud. Then go through the verse again but erase a few key words and the name of the book. Go through the verse again and say the erased word as you repeat the verse, do this again and erase a few more words and the chapter. Keep going through until you have erased the whole verse and you will most likely have memorized the verse. Don’t get frustrated with yourself if it takes a few tries. Remember we serve a King who doesn’t hand out grades but loves us already. We are already approved in Christ, so we get to memorize his word because we love Him and His word, not to keep up with other people’s standards. Praying this may help.

  12. Hi Courtney! Thank you for all you do , putting together these studies!! I have been reading along with you since you began the Chapter a Day. It has helped me to stay in the Word and grow! I love how God points us to the ants….He uses the weak to teach the strong!! I am an early childhood teacher and have always wanted to do an ant farm with my littles, where did you get the one you have pictured? I love the half section, so you get a great view if the tunnels!! Thanks for your time and again, thank you for your diligence in sharing your heart for Jesus!!!
    Love and bessings,
    Kathy in AZ

  13. When I read Proverbs chapters 5 and 7 I feel icky and guilty like it’s talking about me. Like I’m the wicked adulteress in the sight of God. I was sexually abused by a trusted family member and these 2 chapters feel like they are aimed at me. Does God blame me for the sexual abuse? Sounds like He does according to these chapters.

    1. OH my no Angela,

You were wronged – sinned against and this family member broke the law! You should carry no guilt or shame. You are an innocent victim of someone else’s perversion and wrong doing.

These passages are referring to an adult woman who is a temptress not sexual abuse.

I’m so sorry you have faced such pain and suffering. 🙁
Sending my love and hugs to you tonight,
      Courtney

      1. I agree with Courtney. I feel this passage is talking about a woman or man tempting and pushing the someone of the opposite sex to commit adultery under their own free will.

  14. I am already a Christian but bored in my church, could you all suggest one I might like ? I’m really moved by the spirit reading my ESV bible more so than my Catholic bible. You ladies seem to get more of Gods Word in your church. I’m in Michigan. Thank you…..

    1. This is my first bible study with Good Morning Girls also. Thank you Courtney for guiding us through Proverbs. I am really enjoying it. As someone who was raised Catholic I can relate to you Diane. I stopped attending church when i left for college and did not return until just recently, almost 25 years later. As silly as it seems, I spent a lot of time searching area church websites to find one that sparked in me. My girls and I have been attending a nondenominational church for a few months now and I love it there. For the first time ever I was so moved by a sermon, I actually cried in church! Every week I feel like I could stay all afternoon and listen. My new dedication has really come at the right time, it is helping me through a difficult time in my marriage. Diane, I encourage you to check out churches in your area until something moves you. By the way, I am also in Michigan, Traverse City!

  15. Hi Courtney, I just saw your video on the Soak method and highlighting tips and I’m so encouraged by your knowledge of scripture and heart for other women to grow their personal relationship with God. What stood out to me at the end of the video was how you recited 2 Timothy 2:15, which is my current memory verse. I hope to one day recite scripture like you do. Thank you for years of encouragement, Good bless you.

  16. I just started doing proverb with you guys. I’ve been going in circles for months in proverbs for some reasons. A good friend of mine led me to this site. Proverb 7 is a open flood gate for me today. I felt like God spoke to me today. I have been praying for many months. I finally see the light! I need your advice on how to approach to my husband. I thought to be like a Christ like to speak and ask. Do you think if I ask my husband to spill the truth to me as see me as the weakest link and taken me as an advantage when I’m being blind until I can now see? I am hearing a lot of musical in my ears. I hope I’m making sense. Thank you

  17. Tomorrow is chapter 10 and I am curious. I know there is no right/wrong in the coloring…. But how Are you coloring verses like 10:12. All blue for wisdom, brown for the negative and yellow for the blessing, or something different. I am just not sure what to choose and there are so many verses with this format. Thoughts??

  18. I have studied Proverbs many times and this is by far my favorite. I am retaining so much more with the SOAK method. Thank you so much for sharing this with us; it is a life changer.
