Are You Waiting On God or is God Waiting On You?

Have you been waiting on God for a while? Have you stopped to consider that maybe God is waiting on you to take that first step of faith? #Biblestudy #Joshua #WomensBibleStudy #GoodMorningGirls

Are you waiting on God or is God waiting on you?

Waiting on God and His will to take place in our lives is good.  It is absolutely essential as a believer to wait on God and not get ahead of Him. But waiting passively for God to do something supernatural, is not typically how God works.

Sometimes God is waiting on us to take a step forward in faith and courage – and then and only then – do we begin to see the work of God’s hand in our lives.  The men in the Book of Joshua were marching forward, they were fighting battles, they were pressing on into the hill country and taking over the land.  They were on the move.

Are you wondering if you should be still or move? Join me on this video as we discuss waiting on God.

Reading God’s word is good.

Studying God’s word is good.

Memorizing God’s word is good.

Seeking God’s will in prayer is good.

But there is a time my friends, when we are to strap on the full armor of God (Ephesians 6) and step into the spiritual battle – actively fighting the enemy.

Pushing back darkness.

Shining light into all the world.

Repenting of our sin.

Speaking truth in love.

Giving grace and mercy when it is undeserved.

Loving our neighbors.

Loving our enemies.

Sharing the gospel.

Helping others overcome sin in their lives.

Confronting darkness.

Wielding our swords as we fight for joy.

For we do not wrestle against flesh and blood, but against the rulers, against the authorities, against the cosmic powers over this present darkness, against the spiritual forces of evil in the heavenly places.
~Ephesians 6:12

Other people in our lives are never the enemy – Satan is. He is on the move – a roaring lion seeking whom he may devour. May he find a courageous woman – clothed in the blood of the lamb – ready to fight him through the power of Jesus.

Greater is He who is in us, than he who is in the world.

The victory is already yours.

10 And I heard a loud voice in heaven, saying, “Now the salvation and the power and the kingdom of our God and the authority of his Christ have come, for the accuser of our brothers  has been thrown down, who accuses them day and night before our God. 11 And they have conquered him by the blood of the Lamb and by the word of their testimony, for they loved not their lives even unto death.12 Therefore, rejoice, O heavens and you who dwell in them! But woe to you, O earth and sea, for the devil has come down to you in great wrath, because he knows that his time is short!”

Revelations 12:10-12

Keep walking with the King,

Courtney

  1. I have been married for twenty years and our youngest daughter just left the house. My husband has struggled with addiction and infidelity throughout our whole marriage but last spring i had had it! I told him that he needed to seek help or I was leaving when our youngest leaves. This past year I have rededicated my life to The Lord and I asked Him to show me what He wanted me to see in regards to my marriage. Boy did He take me literally! I saw my husband getting another woman’s phone number with my own eyes. He knew I was right there and did not even look to see if I was watching him. Over the last six months he has been completely disrespecting our marriage. Meanwhile, God has blessed me with a house I can afford, a deceased friends mother called me to offer me a great deal on her car,a client offered to loan me the money for the car and I will pay her in services, not money! Every time I think that I am sinning by leaving, God has found a very obvious way to show me that I am not. He loves me. He does not want me to be in a marriage with an addict or someone who is unfaithful, someone who talks ugly about my faith. All I had to do was ask to see His will and He showed me. It seemed impossible for me to be able to move and God pretty much gave me a home and a car for free!
God is good if you trust and believe!

    1. Ms. B –
I don’t know your situation and I know that you have gone through such trying times….but I do know that you husband needs your prayers right now and your faith. Its just as Courtney says, the fight is not against your husband, but the devil. I don’t believe that God is showing you a way to leave your husband, but maybe a way to be a light for your husband. Stand firm for your marriage, hold tight to the vows that you made. Let the Lord be your husband for this season and He will direct your husbands steps. Miracles come from prayer and I know that your husband can be suddenly changed into the man that God wants him to be. He can transform your marriage.
Please remember that faith is believing in the unseen. God will work in your husband in ways you may not know. He will be tired of the sinning in his life and want what you have, the true light of the world! I have been where you are, I have stood for my marriage and if you feel that God is leading to to stand, there is a great website for support, Rejoice Marriage Ministries. We need to stand up to Satan, he hates marriage most, because it is found on the love that is Christ Jesus. I pray for you and your husband and a restored marriage, better than you can even imagine.
Gods beautiful blessings to you and your family.

      1. The word of God gives clear grounds for divorce and one of them is sexual inmorality from a husband or wife found in Matthew 5:32.
The person who is infaithful has become one, joined with a person who they have not married while being married. God completely disagrees with this to the point to prrmit divorce.

      2. Lorna,
Although your heart maybe in the right place with your advice, it is insensitive for you to do so. Unintentionally, you may be causing more anguish in an already broken heart. This women is showing courage to step out of a toxic marriage! What she may need at this time are women coming around her with love, encouragement and affirmation!

      3. Amen Lorna, that is the truth! The devil is looking to make our hope back down. When the devil is coming against us, scripture says to stand firm. Ephesians 6:10-18. The enemy is the one who needs to leave.

      4. You can wait for people to change until you yourself have one foot in the grave. If you’ve never experienced trying to stand by a husband who refuses to change, you should not comment on it. This article is about finally making the change yourself after you’ve prayed all you can. I left my husband 11 years ago and raised our daughter alone and he to this day has not changed hardly at all and so I do not regret leaving. We are to honor God first and if your spouse is not doing the same, at some point you have to walk away so that you can serve God in the right way

      5. Shame on you, Lorna. Prayers for the husband are obviously needed, but the Bible says that infidelity shall not be tolerated and is grounds for divorce. Try to be a little more sensitive to a sister in pain who is seeking the will of the Lord. He is obviously speaking to her in ways that are not understood by you. Don’t be so self righteous that you are turning your back and JUDGING another fellow human being.

      6. Hi Lorna,
Can you tell me more on how you stood against satan for your husband, and marriage? I agree with your comment to Ms. B that God doesn’t desire for her to leave her husband. I am in a way now with my marriage. Satan has been attacking my husband’s mind ever since we got married. We were crazy in love and had a great relationship prior to getting married, and we both believed that we were who God ordained for us to marry. However after marrying it was like some flicked a switch and turned all the lights off. Our home became one of chaos, my husband began to doubt whether or not he was cut out for marriage. I could and can clearly see the enemy at work but my husband does not. He is relying on his own logic & knowledge, and I know God defies ALL logic because God does whatever He chooses to do according to His will and not the world’s standards. Anyhow, it got really bad… no cheating or anything but I was always getting falsely accused of things I wasnt doing, jealous in-laws began lying on me to him so it got to the point where I moved out 2yrs ago. I regret I did that. It was after I moved that I read in the Bible that a wife should not separate herself from her husband. Over the course of the 2yrs, my husband and I still talk, date, and spend time together every week. We still vacation, and celebrate our anniversary…all of this initiated by him. He apologized for believing the lies, and confessed that he now knows those lies were not true. However, there is still a major battle taking place in our marriage that is preventing me from going home. My husband is battling depression, and he isolates himself when he is experiencing a depressed state. If I dont push him, and just leave him alone he spirals into a deep dark rabbit hole. When I push him, his first response towards me is anger, but he responds by coming out of that dark place. This lasts for about a couple weeks or months before the depression hits again. He had his 1st appointment with a doctor regarding this, and we are both excited about what this means for him, and our marriage. Problem now is … God has revealed to me there is nothing else for God to do with our marriage as long as we are separated. My lease is up in my apartment, and I told my husband months ago that I was coming home at the end of my lease. We have both been excited about it, but then depression reared it’s ugly head again and now my husband is saying he is not ready for me to come home because he wants to get his mental health together first… I am hurt and frustrated. I feel like I am the only one fighting. He believes every lie satan puts in his mind… feelings like marriage isnt for him, he rather be alone, etc. and in reality when he is not believing these things or dealing with the depression he is amazing. Infidelity is not our issue, never has been… I clearly see it as a spiritual attack. I recently finished ministry school, and my husband said to me be watchful for satan because he is going to attach you now because of your choice… but he cant see that satan is attacking our marriage. My husband has a calling on his life but about 5yrs ago he stopped going to church. I dont know what to do? I do not know if I am waiting on God or if God is waiting on me? My husband has been very clear about not being ready for me to come home, but I am afraid our marriage wont survive another year of living apart. I’m angry, hurt, and frustrated. How do I continue to stand against satan for my husband and our marriage? Faith without work is dead, how do I continue to work towards saving our marriage from outside the home? As a wife, I have rights… do I just go home regardless to my husband’s concerns and/or mental health. I refuse to let satan take down my marriage, but I feel like I have lost my way in this fight. I didnt expect him to have a change of heart. I have been very supportive regarding the depression. I am the one who is encouraged him, and made the appointments for him to start seeing a doctor.

    2. I have lived with infidelity and addiction. And a husband who said he was a Christian but didn’t go to church with me. In my case, the answer was clear, though I did give my husband a choice. He was asked to leave. Adultery is a Biblical reason for divorce. For some it’s not the best answer, some can put their lives back together, but for one who does it over and over and over …. there’s no marriage. There is an arrangement for the sake of the kids. I believe that God can bless divorce, too. I had had my husband’s last name printed beside my maiden name on the day we married. Within a year after he left, it had faded off. Gone. Don’t get me wrong: marriage is sacred and should be treated as such. This one, sweet sister, is a hard decision and not one to be taken lightly for sure. Praying for ya. — Been there, done that, got the t-shirt

    3. Ms. B, I am so sorry for your pain and your poor heart. Only having seen a glimpse into your life. Sometimes such things as the signs you are mentioning tell us more about God than how we should respond. It seems clear God wants you to feel provided for as He is ultmately your Provider and Protector. I hope that God will bring godly leadership into your life to walk along side you as you try to see how to apply what God is saying. Also I just wanted to share that I had a spiritually crazy season where it seemed like the more I prayed the worse things got. I started calling the craziness reverse miracles. Often the devil likes to counterfeit things God does. He will counterfeit signs with events that seems like God is speaking but really its just the enemy trying to confuse God’s ultimate end. From what I can see of the plain meaning of Matthew 5:32 a spouse who divorces because of sexual immorality does not commit sexual immorality if that victimized spouse remarries. I do not see evidence of Jesus blessing divorce. Jesus says divorce is a remedy God gave because of hardness of hearts in Mark 10:5-8. In Mark 10:9 Jesus says that people should not separate spouses. These scriptures add up to the reality that God doesn’t like divorce. It makes sense that a cunning enemy may want to show you an easy way out while God is not yet finished. I wanted to leave my husband so bad but God instructed me to begin earnestly praying for him and turns out he wasn’t saved. He has since given over his whole heart to God after I didn’t end it all. To God be the glory! Who knows if he would’ve gotten saved if I left. Anyway it’s your choice.

  2. Hi there, Thanks for the great reminder, amen to that! I’ve been called to be a teacher and I am so often feeling discouraged when I see how this new youth generation are being so misled in lives. I so often think of quitting as I don’t feel dealing with all this mess. my excuse is always the same ” oh Lord I’ve got enough on my plate by raising my two children. But hey this is my call and I had to come across your today’s devo to be reminded that the Lord is with me and fear not, take courage and put on the armor of God and PRESS ON.
Thanks for your encouraging words, may the Lord continue to bless your ministry and more women out there be touched and lifted.

  3. Thank you so much for your ministry! It has helped me learn to study the word on my own, hearing from God and I have gotten a deeper relationship with him because of this time spent with Him.

  4. Everytime God does something I am amazed. I have been reading through the posts and testimonies and I just knew He wanted me to read these today. Thank u ladies for being unselfish in your sharing. God bless

  5. Courtney, as so many had said before, thank you so much for your ministries. You are having a great impact worldwide. Right now I am writing from Chile for example. This blog is so helpful and is the one I always keep following. I pray that God may help you stay steady courageous and strong WHATEVER circumstances are. May he help you fighting back Satan. So, he will be glorified by your role model to so many women. Thank God for you!

  6. Doing this study on my own. Thanks so much for your video. God is truly speaking through you and using you even years later it is reverberating though more lives. Sometimes I feel that I am no longer useful to God. I’m 35, married with a kid. How silly of me. Caleb was 85, watched so many failures of the people around him. Loved with the consequences of those failures and kept going. He did not become bitter, blaming and angry. He kept going and knew one day rest would come but for now, he needed to fight the battle. I’m going to have courage and keep moving. I know God is waiting on me. He’s given me everything. Time to stop living in fear and step out knowing God is with me and will never forsake me.
