Step Up and Be Used By God {Featuring 2 Amazing Women Who Did This!}

There are two women in the Book of Judges who were used by God in very different ways. God wants to use you. Here's how you can step up and be used by God. #Biblestudy #Judges #WomensBibleStudy #GoodMorningGirls

Today I’m featuring two amazing women who stepped up and were used by God.  These two women were complete opposites.  One served God outside her home and was known for her wise counsel and walk with God.  The other served God in her home – aka her tent 😉 .  Both of them were brave.  If you need encouragement today, to do the next right thing – either inside or outside your home – this video is for you.

For those reading along with the “Reading through the Bible” series, this week we began the book of Judges and we read chapters 1-5.

Since I covered chapter 4 in the video, I just want to mention chapter 5.

The song.

As Deborah and Barak sang a song of victory, celebration, and worship to God – I got to wondering.

I wonder when was the last time you shared with others the details of something God has clearly done in your life?

Deborah’s song was full of details!  She told the entire story so everyone could hear and praise God with her.  Do we remember to celebrate like this when God helps us too?

Let’s encourage each other and give praise to God publicly but sharing here in the comment section.

Share something that God has done in your life or in your church –or how God has used someone else in your life.

Have you had victory over a certain battle or sin in your life? Name it for us here and share how God helped you. Let’s encourage one another through our faith stories.  I can’t wait to read them.

Walk with the King,

Courtney

  1. I didn’t know this Bible story. Your video and reflection of the scripture was key for me to better understand who Deborah was and how courageous Yael was. Thank you for your posts and videos!

  2. Hello, I became a stay at home mom a year and a half ago. I love it. I am very involved in my church with its children in action program. It is mission based. I teach Sunday school and am room parent at my daughters. School. Every time something seems to come our way God provides. It may not be right away but he provides. He is really taking care of us. I thank him so much for that. I love being able to serve my family and church. Thank you for this, it is very encouraging

    1. Amen
I lost the ability to walk and work last year but your words are so true in my life. God is ALWAYS there and YES he provides in more ways than one.

  3. I have two children with a progressive, chronic, genetic lung disease. But you would never know it. God provides that they are healthy. He was made provision for their medicine, medical equipment and care. He provided work for my husband near Vanderbilt University, which has one of the top CF care centers in the country, and he had provide work for me to do from home so I can homeschool(something I didn’t even know I wanted)
All of our children and better care for them.

    1. God does provide. He always provides in ways that constantly surprise me. I know the hardship of having sick little ones. We have 6 children ages 15 years to 1.5 months. 2 of our children are dyslexic and our little girl in the middle has 3 chronic deceases ranging from her liver/pancreas, lungs, and auto-immune. One of the most stressful situations I have ever lived was going almost a year and a half with every test coming back negative, finding other problems along the way, and then finally settling on the doctors figuring out its an auto immune disorder but that its so rare that it doesn’t have a name or that she could be the only one with it. Whatever the case, this little girl has such an appreciation for life that other children and adults alike just don’t understand. My husband says all the time that one day (even if she is in her 30s) she will show up for one of her many routine appointments just to be told its all miraculously gone. Top that with my husband getting laid off over a year ago and be losing my job 6 months ago, God constantly amazes me.

  4. God is so good. There are way to many times to mention how God has been faithful in my life and the life of my family. One particular way I recognize and am thankful for is that He answers prayers according to His will and not mine. Looking back it is the only way my faith could grow and meet the demands that I am called to. It’s not easy but like Barak needed Deborah, I need God and He is always with me.

  5. I loved this and needed this encouragement. Sometimes as a house wife/ stay at home mom I wonder how God can use me, but this is a great reminder that God uses me where I am at. God has been breaking strongholds in my life. He has freed me from ptsd, healed me from abuse, and is continuing to bring me freedom and healing in many areas of my life. Praise God!

  6. My christian, loving amazing husband died in an accident three and a half years ago. God has been there every step of the way for me and my three sons. Even though I am so sad that I hav to go everyday without him in my life to do life with I feel God walking with and strengthening me as I do life. I didn’t fit with any of my church groups anymore but God showed me a different church that I was supposed to go to and I LOVE IT!!!!!!!! It is hard everyday but I feel God with me showing me the way and keeping me strong! Thank you for your simple bible study that breaks things down so that it is easy to consume. Courtney, I appreciate your faithfulness.

  7. Yes Courtney, thank you for planning and creating these Bible studies! I have been reading the Bible with GMG for about 6 months and I love it! As a stay at home mom, like someone else said, lonely times come and you wonder “How can God use me?” Jael and Deborah are wonderful reminders of godly, strong, and courageous women who made a difference in the world for God. May God use all of us women for His purposes and may we allow Him to use us as He desires!

  8. God has had tremendous victory in my life over sins of the tongue. It’s still something I’m very careful with, but when I look at where I was in my youth, He has brought me so far!

  9. There are NO unknowns with God! I love how He does prepare us through His word and prayer for what He knows we will encounter when we don’t have a clue… That is why it is so important to spend time in His Word and prayer, He truly is strengthening us so we have what we need when that trial, storm, difficulty comes to us… I’ve seen Him supply inner strength to my life just this week through a trial… I know I had what I needed because I was already connected to my Source through daily quiet time and prayer! That is what I love about this ministry, it gives women a simple, “organic” structure to be in God’s Word, it uncomplicates it! So thank you Courtney!

  10. Courtney,

Thank you for all of your insight! I love your blog and the reading plan. I started GMG about 2 months ago, and I look forward to the fellowship on FB and my quite time and journaling every morning. God Bless You!

  11. Courtney I’m so thankful for this Bible study it is such a blessing to be able to come on here every day and be encouraged by you and many other godly women thank you all so much ????

  12. Thank you so much for the video! You explained it so much better and now I can truly understand. My husband got hurt at work last week and we have been through 10 days of being tossed from dr to dr. Praise the Lord we finally found the correct dr and hubby is showing signs of improvement. It was so hard to keep trusting God through the storm but He has proved faithful yet again!

  13. I have been struggling this week getting into Judges and seeing what is “in it for me”, breaking a verse down in SOAK has been difficult, but this has REALLY helped me to open my eyes and see what God has for me here. Thank you!! I thank God in my prayers for your ministry and I will be praying for you and whatever you may be going through right now.

Side note, your hair looks great in this video and I love you shirt! 🙂

  14. God has been so good to me! 4 years ago he moved us to another state, where we knew no one. That move has led us to a great church filled with amazing people! It has led our whole family to Jesus. We bought a great old farmhouse and he has now let me be a stay at home mom. God is good!

  15. I have been doing a study of different women from scripture each day. My intent in the studies was to encourage others, but God has reminded me over and over of my own value and the value in sharing His word with others. It is how HE sees things that matters.

  16. The parental contribution for my daughter’s college tuition is over $2700/month. My husband is not working due to medical conditions. Yet we have been able to meet every payment, and she is now a senior in college. God has provided in so many ways including sending others in our life to bless us in mighty ways. He is Jehovah Jireh, my great provider.

  17. This is the first time I’m reading through the book of Judges. The old testament books can be intimidating, but it’s so encouraging walking through them with my sisters in Christ around the globe. Courtney, you have a wonderful gift in teaching and inspiring women to stay in the Word of God. Thank you for your continued work in your blog and these studies. God Bless!

  18. Thanks Courtney for this study, I too have never study book of Judges. These two individuals imprinted a attitude of gratitude on me for I can relate to them. I’m a stay at home wife and mother! I love it and people value my counsel and wisdom! I used to question why was my counsel so important but after God showed me my purpose and the passion I have for this service I embraced this and see His blessings in my life and others! I’m so grateful to you and for this study, Thanks again!

  19. Since both my sons married, the women they married does not want us or their sister in their life. So sons do whatever they want. One wife is a step mom to my grandson and because my grandson has a relationship with his real mom, the step mom don’t want him around. My other daughter in law says that we are below her class, so she don’t want us around. I have prayed that my sons wouldn’t let this happen to our family, because they wasn’t this way until they married these women.
It breaks my heart and I have prayed so much, but it’s going on 13 years with one son and started in the last 8 years with the other. I just don’t understand why.
