Welcome back to Week 2 in the Book of 1 Samuel!

You all did a GREAT job last week.  I loved reading all of your reflections from your daily reading out on Instagram and Facebook.

If you are looking for guidance in the color coding and daily insight into the reading – please visit me on Instagram and visit the hashtag #GoodMorningGirls – there are lots of women posting their pictures of their color coded Bibles and their reflections on our reading. Remember, there is no right or wrong way to do this and not all of our Bibles will look alike.

Here’s what some of them look like:

We are also discussing our reading daily on the GMG Facebook page.  If you haven’t checked that out yet – do that this week!  The discussion there is so rich and encouraging!

If you are new here – jump in right where we are and catch up on the weekends.  All are welcome to join anytime – there are no enrollments or sign-ups!

Here’s the Printable Bible Bookmark – check off your reading each day!

Here is this week’s Bible Reading Plan:

Here are this week’s Reflection & Discussion Questions

{If you do not have a group, use these for a personal time of reflection.}:

Chapter 6

We live in a culture that tends to treat God casually rather than holy. At times, we lean more towards grace than obedience or towards our feelings rather than letting God’s Word have the final say.

How have you seen this around you?  How can we live differently?

Chapter 7

Israel had strayed from serving God and needed a change of heart.

Are there any areas where your heart has secretly gone astray? How can you redirect your heart today?

Chapter 8

Israel wanted a king so they could be like the other nations. When we take our eyes off of God’s Word, we too can be influenced by the world’s trends.

In what ways have you seen the church tempted to follow the world’s ways over God’s?

Chapter 9

God chose someone that the world would have overlooked to become the king of Israel.

How does this encourage you to see that God does not choose those he uses based on status, wealth or background?

Chapter 10

The rejection of the Lord made no sense. Why would anyone reject the one who had saved them?

Sometimes we act like the Israelites and we try to solve our problems on our own. Tell of a time when you have struggled with this.

Special Note: For those who have done previous studies with GMG, we are discontinuing the Reflection Question Graphics due to the length of the question not fitting on a graphic. Going forward, they will be printed in Monday’s Resource post in this format.  Please copy and paste them in your emails or Facebook groups.  Thank you!

The Verses of the Day:

I encourage you to choose which verse you’d like to memorize or meditate on.  The printable below includes all 5 verses of the day — for the entire week!  Print and cut them out and put them in the bathroom, kitchen, beside your bed and computer and use them for meditation throughout the week.

This Book of the Law shall not depart from your mouth, but you shall meditate on it day and night, so that you may be careful to do according to all that is written in it. For then you will make your way prosperous, and then you will have good success. – Joshua 1:8

  1. Can i get the Reflection and Discussion Questions for Chapters 1 -5? I’m just getting started and trying to catch up. Thank You

  2. I have been away from these awesome bible studies for almost a year, and have truly missed them. time to stop being lazy and keep God first. Have enjoyed the first 6 chapters, it is so different when you are reading and color coding as you go along, Gods word just jumps off the pages. Thank you for your dedication to this ministry, in spite of your personal situation, God will get you through.

  3. Can I join late and catch up? Can I still access the resources from the beginning of 1 Samuel? Could you tell me how? Thanks for all your help! Betty

  4. Although Israel seems to flip flop back to and from God, there is one thing about them I just love. When the are faithfully serving Him, they pray for, and completely believe that God will protect them. They don’t sit around playing games and relaxing, but rather take part, and suit up to battle. I don’t think I want to know how many times I’ve prayed for something then sat around waiting for God to express-post (or fed-ex, for you Americans????) it to me.
I pray for patience, then get frustrated when God gives me opportunities to practice. I pray for a strengthened marriage, then wait for it to happen. I pray for better behaved kids, then act lazy when the parenting comes. I pray to be closer to God, then let dust collect on my Bible. God is used more as a servant to my laziness rather than my being the servant!
Just my Saturday morning thought 🙂
