Your Inner Dialogue: Fire the Peanut Gallery In Your Head!

All of us have an inner dialogue or self talk. For many it is negative and it's time to put a stop to it. Here's how to fire the peanut gallery in your head. #Biblestudy #1Samuel #WomensBibleStudy #GoodMorningGirls

We all have a running inner dialogue.  Sometimes it is not very nice.  It’s like a peanut gallery.  The peanut gallery says things like – you’re so weak – what is wrong with you?   Why can’t you stop overeating or overspending or talking so much or why are you so shy or messy or disorganized?

Join me on this video as we discuss How to Fire the Peanut Gallery in Your Head!

{If you are reading this in an email or feed – click here to view the video}
(I made a mistake at 5:13 – I meant to say God is a God of second chances)

For some – to quiet the inner dialogue — they turn to substances like alcohol, drugs, or pills.  For others they turn to work or busyness on the calendar to stay distracted.  It does not work because as soon as you are quiet – that inner dialogue starts back up.

The enemy does not rest! He wants to lie to us.

But in 1 Samuel 30 – verse 6 – when David was all alone and had absolutely no one – he did not listen to the peanut gallery.  It says:

But David strengthened himself in the Lord his God.

But David STRENGTHENED.

But David strengthened HIMSELF.

But David strengthened himself IN THE LORD HIS GOD.

He grew strong.  He did it for himself.  He did it, through the Lord His God.

Are you discouraged today?

In what areas do you struggle with a peanut gallery, in your head?

Turn to God – all by yourself – and be strengthened.

God loves you so.

Walk with the King,

Courtney

  1. Thank You Courtney for always making me stop and quiet myself and think, clearly. Please don’t ever stop your videos, your like a friend sitting and talking with me and encouraging me to always do better.

  2. I can’t tell you how much I really needed to hear this right now. Thank you for being faithful to use your gifts for God’s kingdom

  3. Ouch. The peanut gallery is so loud sometimes. It’s somehow comforting to know others deal with it, too. Thanks for addressing this. I pray we all seek God in our lives and minds, shutting out the peanut gallery.

  4. Thank You for your time preparing and making your videos, Courtney! They are savored like a warm conversation with a best friend! The “peanut gallery” is so relevant and I appreciate your reminding me how to deal with mine and as always Who/Where to turn to for help with that. I am reassured that I am not alone when you share so honestly, so please know your videos are Good and Godly girlfriend in Christ therapy! Your Wisdom is a Gift-thanks for sharing despite all you are bearing up under…I send you and the kids my prayer support, that you might be re-energized and lifted up as you do for me and mine! God Bless! Continued hugs of support! Let’s all look to the Light so we see no shadows!

  5. Courtney,
I appreciate all the time and effort you put into these Bible studies. I’m sure it would be easier to just write everything you felt led to say but seeing you and hearing your voice makes it so much more real, which makes it even more encouraging to those of us doing your studies. You’ve become a friend who teaches us, challenges us, encourages us and corrects us. And we know your heart because we hear it in your voice in what you share. We don’t know you like your family knows you, but you have still become a friend. Please know this – if you stop the videos I would greatly miss you. And friend please know that I’m praying for you and your family.

  6. Thank you so very much for your videos! I loved this one especially! I love hearing you speak God’s word. I love reading your blogs, but especially enjoy the videos and to see your passion and love for God. You fire me up and energize me with your passion!

  7. Last night I was at a Sidewalk Prophet concert and one thing that was said really spoke to me and it goes along with what you have said Courtney. “Don’t listen to the lies! Especially the ones that are the loudest when you are alone!” I love how God reenforces what He is saying to you! He is so awesome! I want to listen to His truth and not the “peanut gallery”! I will look to God for the strength to do that and pray that others will too.

  8. Good Morning Courtney!

I think you nailed it when you said WE need to seek out God to strengthen ourselves, like David did. So many people, including myself, would much rather be “spoon feed” God’s Word by looking into self-help books, videos, counsel from friends; hoping that those things will tell us what to do/how to respond/how to be happy/how to fight. And we forget that really God is the only source of strength we really need. Does that make sense? ????
I’m not saying those other things are bad, in fact, I think it’s good that we have so many ways of ENCOURAGEMENT but it shouldn’t be our SOURCE of strengthen. God should be the #1 source and we must put in the EFFORT ourselves to meet and cry out to Him. But I’m preaching to the choir here. Lol ????

Yikes, hope that made sense. I’ve been praying for you and your family! Hope all is well out there in Ohio!

    Have a great weekend!

    Emese

  9. I am praying for you all, and you Courtney. I struggle with the peanut gallery as we all do. I got so stressed about it, I am on pills, and am so sad about it. Oh dear Heavenly Father, please strengthen all of us in your love. Defeat the enemy in our lives and help us to walk as you would have us to, in victory and not defeat. Amen

  10. Dear Courtney,
Thank you so much for not listening to the peanut gallery and making this video! It was just what I needed to hear. I love Fridays because I get to watch your videos and dig deeper in God’s Word with you! Stay strong and stay encouraged because through your ministry you are changing our lives every single day. You have changed mine in so many ways and I am a stronger Christian woman for it! Loved the video, love the study, love your ministry!
    Sending love and prayers,
    Jessi

  11. As others have noted, it is so good to know I am not alone. Your words are always timely, refreshing, and good for the soul. You have a gifting and I am grateful that you continue to share it with us! I have looked forward to your video all week fully knowing that it would be powerful and relevant. You continue to teach, encourage, and bless through your ministry – may you be blessed in return so that your cup runneth over!

  12. Insightful as always, and really hits home for me right now. Thank you for all you do and the hard work you put into GMG!

  13. This was my first study with you. I love the SOAK method, as it has brought me so much closer to God. I enjoy your videos as well. It brings it all together. I am on FB with the GMG Salt and Light group and have loved our learning time together. Praise God for reminding us to be accountable to be in the living word. Pastor’s sermon on Sunday was about love. He made such a good point. God’s word is a love letter to us. Why would we not want to read his love letter each and every day? I look forward to the next study. Sending a warm gentle {{{hug}}} your way.

  14. Thank you Courtney! I love ur videos too! I started out doing your series on walking through the bible cover to cover when u first began but had stopped for quite a while to do my own study and study I was doing through our church. This morning I woke and thought what am I going to read from the bible today? Where can I turn to that has a passage to read and a good devotional to go with it and i instantly thought of the emails I receive from you and went and read you email, watched you video and read my bible and I just wanted to encourage you! Thank you for your faithfulness! Thank you for going on with this series of reading the whole bible and for your godliness. You must face many challenges I’m sure, but thank you! I love that you not only encourage us to read the Word but you explain it too! Thank you!!

  15. Continue on with Keep making the videos Courtney, if it’s for you. Just to remind you, that you are qualified & equipped to do this. You’ve willingly helped so many lost people in desperate need of hearing God’s Word, knowing & teaching truth “plainly” from all 66 Books of the Bible despite all of your trials you are going thru. On how to apply & live out God’s truth in our lives. Having a true relationship with Christ which is heartfelt & not from a legalistic standpoint. You point people to Christ! It’s wonderful how we can submit to each other as Christians because we love God & that He first loved us. I continue to pray for your ministry here at WLW God wants & needs someone like you to do it. Your humble service for Him doesn’t go unnoticed. I commend you for this! There are many men out there who “should” be out there ministering & preaching the Word to folk who need to hear, who aren’t fulfilling their calling. I also think it’s great that your young Nephew is leading the men’s & boy’s bible study.
The Lord will bless you for standing firm in Him! Still praying for you!

    Ephesians 2
8 “For by grace are ye saved through faith; and that not of yourselves: it is the gift of God :9 Not of works, lest any man should boast.”

  16. Thank you!! Not an hour before you posted this I was telling my husband about my frustration with my own inner dialogue (yes, I had used that exact phrase!) after a very tough week at my job. Your message was spot on! What I love about Good Morning Girls (1 Samuel is my first study with you) is hearing and reading everyone’s perspectives on the chapter. I got a completely different message from today’s reading from your perspective here and both are so touching to me. I love hearing everyone’s insight!

  17. Love your videos and blog! I struggle with this also it’s so nice to hear that others do too! Keep up the great work you are doing in the Lord. You are such an encouragement. Continuing to pray for you and your family.

  18. Fantastic! Breathe out those negative voices and let the power of God’s love rein! Our King is bigger than anything we can ever face. HIS word is a constant reminder of HIS love for us. Thank you Courtney! Keep our eyes on HIS face!

I learned more about the power of pushing out the peanut gallery and telling those negative voices to take a hike ~ especially, to get and get moving, to exercise. A day without daily devotion and my BootCampHub exercise ~ is truly like a day with out sunshine.

Thank you Courtney – God bless you for all you do ~ I believe in YOU!

BootCampHub has been life changing from my own home ~ just sharing

  19. It is so hard to make that inner voice be quiet, or really just tell the truth! I have worked very hard to make sure that what I am hearing is truth, and if it is not to fill it with truth instead. This is hard when you have heard the lies for so long.
Thanks Courtney for all that you do! 🙂

  20. I’m happy that you fired your Peanut Gallery today and made the video for us! Otherwise, we would’ve all missed out on your Refreshing Presence and much needed explanations! Thank You!

  21. My Peanut Gallery has been heckling me all my life. It tells me that “I am not a good mother” because I lost my children because of my own mother forcing me to do it. That “I am not a good wife” because of my husband’s Social Anxiety and lack of affection, communication and support. That “I am a failure” because I have put us in Deep Debt trying to fill up the void in my heart. That “I am not worthy of being healed” because of the way I used my body when I was just trying to find a way to safety and love. That “I am guilty of murder” from when a precious toddler was abandoned and starved to death in the apartment above my bedroom when I was only 6 years old and I have carried this weight all my life. – –
I know that these are lies but it is not easy to battle on my own. I have been fighting for 39 years…

  22. I needed to hear this today. I was just looking in the mirror prior to watching this and saying all kinds of negative things about myself. My husband even asked why I say these things to myself, and that he’s never known anyone so hard on themselves as me… It can be such a bad habit to just go with the “voices” in our head and feel defeated. I haven’t been seeking God for strength and I need to turn that around.
