The Ultimate Counselor & WLWW Link-Up Party

One of my favorite verses to reflect on at Christmas time is Isaiah 9:6 which says “For unto us a child is born, unto us a son is given, and the government will be on his shoulders. And he will be called Wonderful Counselor, Mighty God, Everlasting Father, Prince of Peace.

Jesus is the ultimate “Wonderful Counselor“. He is wonderful because he is both God and man.
Have you ever had a friend or relative whose opinion you highly valued. Maybe each time you’ve gone to them with your problems – they simply get it. They understand you and they can perceive what is best in your situation.
Maybe you have no one like that in your life??? Many people these days pay a lot of money to have a listening ear and wise counsel. What we need to remember is that this little baby born in a Bethlehem stable is not just a warm fuzzy story for our children – but this baby was born to be your Wonderful Counselor. His counsel comes straight from the throne room of heaven! WOW! Ponder that for a minute!
Jesus understands you when no one else does. Jesus is there for you when you are all alone. Right now as you sit and read this – He is with you – He knows your every thought and your innermost hurts and needs. He loves you so.
How often do we find ourselves talking over a problem with a friend for an hour versus how often do we find ourselves alone with God reading scripture trying to solve a problem for an hour?

Do you consider Jesus to be your Wonderful Counselor“. That’s who He is.

Is your life a little tangled and you wish you could unravel some of the messes you have made? GO to Jesus in his word and prayer – he is the Wonderful Counselor. DO what his word says and TRUST Him – and watch his word guide you through your darkest hours.

If you will allow him to be your Wonderful Counselor, in 10 years you will be in an entirely different place than if you hadn’t.

  1. Before I surrendered my life to Jesus, I had tons of self-help books, but instead of helping me and gearing me towards the right path, they sank me deeper into the old rut. When I embraced the Lord Jesus Christ in my life, I burned all those so-called self-help books and depended only on the Word of God. Jesus is my Counselor, no other. His wisdom is unsurpassed.

Thanks for hosting, Courtney. A Blessed Christmas to you and yours!

  2. Rina, I would actually say that going to professional counseling can make your relationship with Jesus even stronger. (I don’t think that Courtney is arguing against that idea either.)

    1. Yes, in our Church (Jesus Miracle Crusade Intl. Min.), we can go to our beloved pastor, the elders and preachers for counseling and pray-over at any time for free and anointed counseling. These are godly people, full-time workers in the Lord’s vineyard, who fast and pray regularly, sing praises to God and read the Bible night and day. (Sad that I failed to mention this in my first comment).

  3. Courtney, great post and perspective. Yes, Jesus is the one with our answers and going to Him for everything is critical. However, I’ve learned through my own journey, that sometimes our hurts and wounds are so deeply entwined with lies from the Enemy that we can’t hear the truth. When a Godly friend, willing to speak truth, or a professional counselor can be tremendously helpful in offering listening ear and a wise word.

I’ve also learned, as a Biblical Life Coach, that the key to change is discovering that God has the answers for you — inside of you — as long as you’re willing to listen to His voice and line up your life with His Word. It is such a powerful experience to sit on the other side of the table, as a coach, asking questions and watching a child of God discover the answers the Lord has for them.

  4. Dear Courtney – you can have NO idea how you impacted my life. Thank you for posting this today. As always, it is just perfect for my situation. My husband and I are going through a very, very difficult time that I am believing won’t be resolved. We won’t get divorced because we don’t believe in it, but my husband cannot forgive me for a mistake I made early in our marriage. Thank you for reminding me that I have a Wonderful Counselor. God bless you and Merry Christmas! 🙂

  5. Thanks for sharing this! My Aunt and Uncle are going through a rough patch in their marriage and I know that Christ wants to be their Wonderful Counselor. She says they’ve prayed about it and feel like the answer could be divorce. Um, the God I know {the God of the Bible} is not saying that is a solution – to my knowledge there has been no infidelity or abuse, and both are believers. I am just praying that God will intervene and speak Truth to both of them. There are children involved and it is negatively affecting them.

Thanks for hosting such a wonderful link-up as well. 🙂

  6. I do have a special friend like this, and the reason she is so special is because, when my gaze falters, she always points me straight back to Christ. Thanks for this post. Blessings at Christmas.

  7. YES! Jesus understands and His Word gives us wisdom about our next right step. If only we turned to Jesus like we turn to our girlfriends. “Before you go to the phone, run to the THRONE.” Merry Christmas, Courtney!

  8. Oh Courtney, this post is GREAT! I may actually read this to my family around the Christmas tree tonight (edited slightly for our young audience) before my husband reads the Christmas story to the children from Luke. Christmas blessings to you and your family, Courtney. Thank you so much for the many ways you have enriched my faith this past year.
