I Am SOOOOO Tired & WLWW Link-Up Party!

Oh friends!  I just had a great bloggy break!!! One of the things I did a whole bunch of (besides spring cleaning) – is sleep! lol!!!  Oh ya – I’m talking about sleeping in – power naps – and I even went to bed crazy early the one night – it felt SO good!  I was LONG overdue for some good long nights of sleep.  I’ve been cutting myself short lately and I came to the point where I found myself saying everyday…

“I am SOOOOOO tired.”

Are those words that you think quite commonly? I bet you do – I just know I can’t be alone in this!

I read a crazy statistic that said In 1850 Americans crawled into bed at a reasonable hour and slept an average of 9.5 hours a night. By 1910, half the country had electricity, but our recent ancestors were still breathing evenly with their eyes closed, on average, nine hours a night. By 1950 an average night’s sleep decreased to 8 hours. And by 2008, Americans, on average, go 6.5 hours of sleep a night.” – Kathy Peel – America’s Family Manager

We are a sleep deprived nation.

I would go out on a limb and say that it is affecting our marriages, parenting and homemaking negatively.

It is much more difficult to be patient when we feel tired.
It is much more difficult to be consistent in training our children when we feel tired.
It is much more difficult to be “joyful in all circumstances” when we are tired.
So what do we do?
Visit me over at my sister site – GoodMorningGirls.org – where we are in week 9 of our study in the book of Ephesians (click here to see our reading plan) and I’m talking about getting some more sleep!

  1. Oh … I’m hearing you about the sleep! I really believe that the need for sleep is #3 in the “7 Essentials for Wellness” that I think we’re all craving.

And I’m finding that when I spend the evening in front of the computer, it’s much more difficult for me to conk out when I finally do head off bed. And if I have an unwritten post spinning in my head, I end up writing and re-writing it in my dreams!

    AGGHH!

So, on that note, I say “good-night, sleep tight!”

  2. Awhile back I was complaining to the Lord about how tired i was. I was saying to Him, “I need some sort of energy booster – what can i take?”. I heard in my spirit loud and clear- “Try sleep and water – and they are both free.” Haha – so true – as i have been obedient to “sleep and water” I have seen an amazing turn around.

Yikes- I better go get ready for bed!!

  3. We went on a holiday for the weekend – and I loved the napping and the hiking – I so need rest – and water – but I now take zinc and vitamins and my energy level has been so much better! So glad you got some great power napping in!

  4. I like Diane’s statement about sleep and water both being free. Amen to that!

I’m afraid I’m a night owl who does her best writing and work between the hours of midnight and 2a.m. I’m at a good stage in life though. My kids are all in school during the day so a quick 20 min. cat nap is often a possibility. Not that I take them but I can if I must.

I used to get very anxious about this insomnia…but I’ve learned to use the time wisely instead of rolling over and over in bed trying in vain to make my mind stop whirring. Your blog will now be part of my nightly curriculum. It’s so wonderful to read Godly advice and be directed to the source of our sanity…Jesus.

  5. I go to sleep at 9pm or earlier but I wake up at about 3am, or 4am! So I don’t get enough sleep, BUT I do have ample time for prayer! :^) patsy

  6. So happy to see you advocating for women to take care of themselves. I think a lot of the time this is brushed off as undeserved “me-time.” I agree with you that we are our best for others when we take care of ourselves!

  7. Our family just recently started eating vegetarian foods only and talk about a spike in energy, it does make a difference! Also, people in general are overscheduling themselves. I know it’s so cliche anymore but so true~just say “no”. Another issue is that people are just not willing to live simply anymore so when they go to bed they lay there and think about bills, etc. I have vowed to live simply and it DOES make a difference in your quality of sleep and your ability to fall asleep.
