I love Janelle’s Comfy In The Kitchen Recipe for us today! It’s so basic and yet ideal!  She writes:

Years ago, I was on an elliptical at the gym next to one of the trainers. Out of breath, I asked her what the best thing to eat before a workout was. She responded, “Oatmeal with peanut butter of course!” She continued on “All ya do is spoon on some peanut butter over top of oatmeal and it melts, it is so good, keeps you full, and is a great combo of carbs and protein”. Well golly! peanut butter is one of my favorite things ever…so, she sold me on this and I have been making my oatmeal this way ever since…
check it out!
Skim milk, Natural Jif, Old Fashioned Quaker Oats, not quick oats (these brands matter in my book- love generic but I do not flee here)
I boil water
Add the dry oats and let simmer for 5 mins, stirring.
I add a little “milk bath”

And spoon on the good stuff!

  1. In cookies! 🙂 Oatmeal is one of my favorite foods, and I never make it for breakfast without peanut butter in it. Sometimes, while simmering the oats, I sitr in a regular spoonful of cocoa powder, Truvia, and a dash of cinnamon before stirring in peanut butter and fruit (banana and/or berries). It’s good topped with a little Greek yogurt, too.

  2. I love the idea of putting peanut butter in oatmeal! I do like oatmeal, but prefer it with bananas or strawberries. Adding some peanut butter would only take an extra few seconds – I can’t wait to try it!

  3. I like mine with coconut milk and chopped almonds 🙂 Can’t wait to try it with peanut butter. I told my hubby what a great idea it was and he said, you’ve never had peanut butter in your oatmeal? lol!

  4. After seeing some of the oatmeal recipes on Chocolate-Covered Katie’s blog, I decided to start experimenting at home. (Hers are all single-serving, and I need six-serving! But I got some flavor ideas there.) So far, I’ve made Peanut Butter Banana, Chocolate (with a touch of cinnamon), and Pumpkin Pie. Next will be Chocolate Peanut Butter. My kids go crazy for it, and I feel great serving it to them because I use natural sweeteners. We’re going on vacation in June, and I plan on making a yummy variety of oatmeal each morning–so easy to plan for!

  5. LOVE oatmeal. I usually cook the oats (no quick cook here either, but generics are a-okay for us; Aldi $1.99 for a huge container). I then add a tsp. of cinnamon, a tiny bit of vanilla, raisins, and sunflower seeds. If I happen to have dried cranberries on hand, I add those as well.

I also make a terrific rasberry oatmeal smoothie that we all love (and being flexitarians, we appreciate the protein content too.) 1/4 cup oats processed into flour, 1/4 cup 2% milk, 1/2 cup vanilla yogurt, 2 tsp agave, 7-8 frozen rasberries (strawberries work too), and 2 icecubes. Blend or process until smooth and enjoy.

  6. That’s a LOT of carbs. I wouldn’t touch oatmeal with a ten foot pole! Ugh! It’s no wonder diabetes is rampant in this society!

    1. We are all entitled to our own opinions. Sugaring it up of course would not be as healthy and of course increase the carb count. Carbs, fat, and protein are all vital to our body. Carbs in and of them self do not lead to diabetes. The processing of them and stripping them of the original structure, denaturing the nutrient, etc is what our society seems to be consuming to much of.
My family does love a good bowl of oats ( yes sometimes with PB). But we also love our green drinks and eggs – oh how we go through the eggs – over easy, soft boiled, scrambled (I used to crave PB on them during last pregnancy 🙂 )

      1. You’re right. Carbs are vital to our bodies’ health. In fact, carbs are the only thing that our brains use for energy. Without carbs, our bodies can toxify themselves breaking down too much protein and fat (both of which produce toxic by-products during metabolism that must be removed from the body). But, like anything, carbs can be overdone. The key is balance and having the healthiest carbs we can. Oats are one of the healthiest carbs.

  7. Oatmeal is such a staple in my house. Old fashioned oats is the way we go. Oatmeal and applesauce, oatmeal and granola, oatmeal and raisins. But most mornings just plain oatmeal with almond milk. Yummy!

  8. I eat a bowl of oatmeal with a slice of whole wheat toast with peanut butter almost EVERY morning!! 🙂 I always thought I was odd for doing that! LOL Now I don’t!! hahaha

  9. Oh my goodness! This sound de-lish! I am a huge fan of walnuts brown sugar & cinnamon in my oatmeal. But I LOVE LOVE peanut butter and anything with peanut butter. I think I have a new breakfast option!
    THanks!

  10. I have natural peanut butter in my oatmeal every morning. Sometimes I add a little agave nectar and banana. Yummy!

  11. Oh this brings back memories.:) I love peanut butter in my oatmeal. My dad made oatmeal all the time in the mornings and my sister and I would put peanut butter on toast and cut it up into our oatmeal.:) So delicious! Thanks for the post!

  12. I am %@ years old….let’s just say old enough to wish I would have discovered peanut butter with oatmeal before this post….I grew up with sugar & milk over oatmeal; I met my husband and graduated to brown sugar over my oatmeal…today I tried the peanut butter and I will not be going back to Egypt!!
Thank you for expanding my horizons and introducing me to something I never knew I was missing!!

  13. This looks SO good! I look forward to trying it for my family. Please feel free to come over to my “Try a New Recipe Tuesday” and link it up! 🙂 Many blessings, Lisa

  14. I soak the oats in cold water overnight (it reduces the cooking time!) and throw some raisins in at this stage. Just leave it in a pot on the cooker with the lid on until the morning. Then, in the morning, cook the porridge, add some chopped banana, dried apple, a splash of soya milk ( I’m lactose intolerant) and a spoonful of honey. It sounds like a lot but soaking the oats overnight means it’s next to no work and is absolutely yummy! 🙂

  15. When I have blueberries in the freezer, I toss in a handful — tastes good and cools the oatmeal. Granddaughters love it with blueberries or strawberries. Often the fruit is gone before the oatmeal. I need protein so often add English walnuts too.

  16. My son, who’s training to become a personal trainer, thinks I’m crazy to put peanut butter in my oatmeal. I don’t let his opinion stop me, and now I’m glad for the confirmation that it’s not only yummy good, but good for too! I sometimes add a small splash of no-sugar added French vanilla syrup for a bit of sweetness, too. I think I now know what I’ll have for brunch today.

  17. Okay, after all these years of eating oatmeal (brown sugar & butter – since childhood), I had never once had PB in my oatmeal. So, we tried it on Thursday morning. My older 2 think I am a bit nutty and chose not to add it. However, the 3 & 1 year old thought it was fabulous. “Mommy, dis good! I want it ‘gain in the morning.” Straight from the 3 year old. The child loves PB&J’s so this was right up his alley! Thank you for the brilliant suggestion!

  18. Wow!! This really help. I wanna try this tomorrow morning……… <3 🙂

  20. Hey – I’m working with a company that is looking for sites that have content relating to pets and I came across yours.

Any chance you’d be open to hearing about a way you could link to a merchant and make money in the case someone clicks on the link and purchases something?

Just wanted to see if it’s something you’d be interested in hearing about! If not, I hope you have a great day!
