  1. This is SUGAR INSANITY! Just look at the ingredients?! Often we think that blessing our famliy has to be over-sugarly sweet – do we really want to be pumping our kids full of sugar like this? Yes, Valentines is a special occasion, but perhaps we should consider the message we’re sending our kids about showing love in sugary food at the holidays that occur every couple months – think about the overemphasis we have on on candy & sweets – Halloween (all about candy) , XMAS (cookies, candy, desserts) , Valentines (just read this post and look at the stores – everything valentines is CANDY), EAster (choc bunnies, jelly beans, choc eggs….) – is everything special in life really all about candy? Do we even realize what we’re doing here? Then, we wonder why today’s kids are obese and so unhealthy that they are beginning to expeirence what used to be considered ‘middle age diseases’ starting in their teens. Not to mention eating disorders running rampant through our teens & adults….Sugar is literally like poison to our bodies – perhaps we should consider some more healthy ways to bless those we love – that can still be considered “special” but healthy too.

    1. Chris,
Thank you for sharing! I’m a nurse, so I completely understand and appreciate your thoughts. I agree that some people feed their kids too much junk, but I also believe that it is ok to have special treats in moderation. Treats, such as these Love Bugs, are made for my children’s classroom parties….which only happen about 4-5 times a year. We all have different convictions and, for me, moderation is key!

      God Bless!

    2. Love the recipe. And by the way Chris, I don’t believe it is sugar ‘INSANITY’ if you only have 2 pieces… Teaching moderation is key as our children will be exposed to sugar in the world when they leave our nest. I knew a Mom who kept sugar completely from her four children their whole lives; and then that child became my roommate in college. Guess what she ate every other day? Sugary, fattening foods because of the deprivation and lack of moderation in their household. The obesity problem in the US is likely caused by so many working Moms, lack of good home-cooked meals, and fast-food mentality nation. I live in Italy now and these Italians are the thinest people you’ve seen…who eat biscotti, tiramisu, AND lots of veggies, olive oil, fish, and all that good stuff. This recipe is great!
