My Week at a Glance {12/25/13 -1/2/14}

Happy New Year! Here’s our Christmas and New Years celebrations at a glance.

(if you follow me on Instagram, you’ve seen a lot of these already)

This was Christmas morning after opening presents.  I used Janelle’s Homemade Cinnamon Roll recipe – yum!

Then we went to my sister Jen’s house to celebrate with my family.

Alex took a photo from up above of our family eating dinner.

I am sitting next to my mother and father and across from my sisters and their husbands.

The cousins ate out in the kitchen (2 are missing- probably sneaking into the cookies. lol!).

My brother-in-law read the story of Jesus’ birth from Luke 2 and then the musical ones in the family played for us.

Lexi forgot her piano music and had to play from memory. She was bummed.

–then we opened presents.

The day after Christmas, we celebrated with my husband’s family.

My sister-in-law made a huge dinner for 20+ and we had a nice evening visiting with Keith’s family at his brother’s home.

For New Year’s Eve, we used a family recipe for our sauerkraut and cabbage rolls.  This has been our new years dinner tradition – since before I was born!!!!

I’m passing it on to my daughter!

The kids table was set too! (I was reusing some 2013 decorations.)

After dinner we did a family tradition.  We opened an old time capsule from 2006 and pulled out all the items and enjoyed a walk down memory lane.

Then we passed around a new time capsule (a Quaker Oats can that I will label 2013) and each person in attendance (17 of us) put something in the capsule that represented their year.

It was a very hard year and we shed a lot of tears together as 3 obituaries were placed in the capsule in remembrence of the loss of my Aunt to cancer, and both of my grandmother’s.  It’s been a hard year of loss for my family. 🙁

But I am so very grateful for my sisters and family that I get to go into 2014 with!

My family went into the new year with a BANG!  We did a little target practicing Thursday…

  1. Looks like you had a great holiday, thanks so much for sharing. I’m glad you included your family’s trip to the range. Firearm safety is such an important lesson to teach children, and shooting sports are a wonderful activity for the family to share. Wishing your family a blessed year!

  2. Courtney,
I am new to WLW and also GMG’s. I saw your book on the Kindle store this morning and I am already half way through, woohoo! That is why I am here. I am a 28 year old single mother who recently went through my second divorce this past summer. You can definitely say I am going through a season in my life. I am hoping this year brings better things in my life. It is very hard because my family moved around a lot when i was younger so i don’t have any christian girlfriends here in Alabama. I am really hoping to find a group on GMG’s that I can confide in and grow friendships in as well. You have a lovely family and you are really inspiring. More women need mentors like you! Have a blessed New Year!

  3. I am new to Women Living Well as well as GMG. I was looking for a particular study and came across both of the sites. I am looking forward to starting the studies you all will be providing and sharing! You have such a beautiful family! May God’s peace, blessings and love continue to be showered upon you throughout the year. Blessings!

  4. I new I loved you before, but now that you included pictures of shooting at a range I have decided we need to be best friends. Lol Thanks for you blog, I truly enjoy how you write. Have a wonderful 2014.

  5. Courtney,
You have a beautiful family! Your daughter is gorgeous like her mama! I love all your traditions and I hope to instill some traditions in my family as they grow too! Thank you for sharing and Happy New Year!

  6. Lots of loveliness! I’ve just ordered my copy of your book and am looking forward to reading along. My journey is different to yours, but we follow the same King, and I’m excited to read what you have to say!

  7. What lovely pictures – I always enjoy hearing what you’re up to! Those biscuits looked soo yummy, and I loved seeing the pics of you all at the shooting range. It’s great that you’re teaching your kids self defense and the proper way to use a gun at such a young age. 🙂 Many blessings to you and Happy New Year! Blessings, Lauren
