This Book of the Law shall not depart from your mouth, but you shall meditate on it day and night, so that you may be careful to do according to all that is written in it. For then you will make your way prosperous, and then you will have good success. – Joshua 1:8

  5. I’m a newbie – just joined tonight to receive blog updates on the read through the Bible. I would like to read through Job. I need some hope right now. It’s been a tough year. I feel like I’m struggling in my Walk. I find myself not wanting to read the Bible or go to church. I’m not sure why but it scares and bothers me. I don’t even know why I’m sharing with complete strangers but I just feel led to and to ask for prayer. I hope it is ok for me to ask.

    1. CJ,
You’ve come to the right place. The more you read the Bible, the more you will want to read it. I have found this to be true in my own life. We are creatures of habit, so if you set aside time everyday to read God’s Word, it will become something you need to do everyday. You’ll miss it on days you don’t get to read. I pick the morning because my kids are still in bed and I can read in peace and quiet. Pick whatever time works for you and do it every day. It will be hard to do at first, but once you do it for a week it will be come much easier. I always like to light a smell good candle too, it just make that bible time more relaxing and inviting, like a special treat. Sounds weird, but it’s the little things, yanno?! 🙂 Also, attending church is much the same way. The longer you stay away, the easier it gets to miss. The more you go, the harder it is to miss. I would suggest if your church has adult sunday school classes, that you go to those as well. That’s a great place to seek prayer for yourself, make close friends, and get connected. When you’re connected, you have an accountability group who will miss you when you’re gone. Plus, once you make friends, you won’t want to miss. I also suggest finding ways to get involved in your church. Find a way to serve and help out. Churches are always struggling for more workers. 80% of the church just come, hear a message, and leave, leaving all the work to the remaining 20%. So, getting plugged in and serving along side other believers is a must. It will strengthen you, allow you to use your God-given talents, help others, and bring glory to your Heavenly Father. I hope this helps encourage you and gives you some ideas of ways that you can make God and His Word more real in your life. We all struggle at times. We are all on different points in our path of walking with the King- stay on the path, seek Him, and let Him lead and guide you in all things. Glad you are here. God bless you!

      1. Hi Kelly,
Thank you for the words of encouragement. I am plugged into a good church and pretty active in it. The people there are like family – fellowshipping often and the pastor and his wife are incredibly involved whether it be attending activities, help clean, help members with issues. The Sunday School class – I belong to one but really don’t like it so I am hoping to try a different one. As for the Bible reading it seems to come and go – I’ll read for several days and the stop. What I found was that lately I feel the nudge to read but I shy away – that’s what is confusing. I feel like something is wrong with my heart but not sure what it is. I know I have been overwhelmed lately and a family member is causing a lot of issues and that it has angered me as a result. So I don’t know if I’m mad at God, afraid, or what if that makes any sense. I feel guilt for being angry and for being the tough love person because I feel uncompassionate but feel boundaries have been crossed, the behavior of this family member is destructive and hurting other family members and they refuse help (again nothing physical). I feel like it is all connected but I just don’t know where my feelings on God concerning all of this is right now. Sorry for the long spiel. I appreciate your prayers.

        1. I just prayed for you too CJ. I know what you mean a bit. When you are just too emotionally drained to even connect.

Have you tried just praying? Just honestly talking to God about how you feel, your confusion, your anger, just talking to Him like a friend about everything you are feeling and asking Him to speak to you and guide you and to heal your heart?

          1. Hi TBG,
Thank you for your encouragement as well. I appreciate the prayer. I’m trying to. Some days it’s a simple help me figure out what is going on. Perhaps I just need to take baby steps and not be so hard on myself. 🙂 I am so thankful there are women who sincerely care – I’ve been made to feel welcome on this site. 🙂

  6. Hi Courtney,
One morning last week I was awakened at 2 am and could not fall back asleep, I would lay in bed feeling a nudge to get up and go to my tablet, I finally got up and because my marriage is not at its best right now, I started googling christian marriage resources … well first thing that I came across was your website/blog… I am convinced that God brought me here, a place where I can learn more about Him and all that He wants for me, for my family & for my marriage. Thank you

    1. I have learned so much about marriage from Courtney. Have you read her book, Women Living Well, yet? If not, get it from Amazon. I read it in two weeks. I couldn’t put it down and I even wrote out a study sheet to remind me of the things that spoke to me. She has really changed my outlook on what marriage should be and encouraged me to see my husband the way I am supposed to. Not only that but she talks about you, your parenting and your ministry… it’s an all encompassing book. You’ll definitely be inspired. And don’t forget, we all struggle and we need God to help su through. We can’t have amazing marriages and ministry and hearts for Him- without HIM! Just indulge in all things God, and you’ll see Him running to your rescue! He’s amazing like that.

  7. Thank you!! I just found you all in the middle of Numbers and am SO glad I did!! I have been searching for something like this for some time. I can’t wait to join the next study group!
    God Bless!

  9. Hi, just letting you know how Thankful for your commitment to doing this online, God Bless you. I found your Pinterest post on the color chart a couple of weeks ago and then checked your GMG posts and was amazed so I checked out your web page, that you were doing a study in Numbers so I jumped in at Chaper 21-27. I have never journaled before or anything so this is a first for me. I didn’t think it would be that hard or that I would “learn anything new” but I’m amazed at what the Lord has shown me in just this week and a half. One thing I pray is that the Holy Spirit would open my eyes and heart that I will be a sponge for Him. And he has! Last month I lost my job and had been very discouraged over it, I have felt the tugging to read my Bible so I had been reading my daily in my One Year bible but didn’t feel like it was enough till now. I enjoy every morning, sitting at his feet on a daily basis and drinking in his Word, this is what I have needed to do for a while; like he commanded his people to do-do nothing but worship me. We serve an awesome God, who knows the desires of our hearts. I feel the tugging now to set aside a time to fast, which I haven’t done in years, but I know now the why and what for, now I just need time to set aside for that.

    1. Welcome April,

I’m so glad you found us here and have joined in. The Book of Numbers is a hard book to jump in on – I’m so blessed to hear how God is working in your life. Keep on going!!!

Can’t wait to study the Bible together in the new year. The book of Job will be so encouraging!

      God bless,
      Courtney
