10 Verses for When You Are Having a Bad Day

We all have bad days, bad weeks, bad months, and bad seasons of life when we need God's Word for comfort. Here are 10 verses for those difficult times. #WomenLivingWell #Bible #verses #comfort

Sometimes we don’t just have bad days, but we have bad weeks, bad months, bad years or bad seasons of life.  During these times, we can feel out of control and in need of encouragement to make it through another long day.

God’s Word is alive and active – it speaks into the darkness and brings light to our soul, joy to our sorrows, hope in despair and strength to our weary bones.

Here’s 10 Verses For When You Are Having a Bad Day-

1.) Remember, the Lord is near.

The Lord is near to the brokenhearted and saves the crushed in spirit.
~Psalm 34:18

2.)  God is with you and He loves you.

The Lord your God is in your midst, a mighty one who will save; he will rejoice over you with gladness; he will quiet you by his love; he will exult over you with loud singing.
~Zephaniah 3:17

3.) You are in a spiritual battle – be strong in the Lord!

Be strong in the Lord and in the strength of his might.
~Ephesians 6:10

4.) You are not alone.

It is the Lord who goes before you. He will be with you; he will not leave you or forsake you. Do not fear or be dismayed.
~Deuteronomy 31:8

5.)  Give your worries to Jesus.

Cast all your anxieties on him, because he cares for you.
~1 Peter 5:7

6.) Run to Jesus and rest in Him.

Come to me, all who labor and are heavy laden, and I will give you rest. Take my yoke upon you, and learn from me, for I am gentle and lowly in heart, and you will find rest for your souls. For my yoke is easy, and my burden is light.
~Matthew 11:28-30

7.) Keep believing.  Cling to hope.

May the God of hope fill you with all joy and peace in believing, so that by the power of the Holy Spirit you may abound in hope.
~Romans 15:13

8.) This is unnatural- but rejoice.
We rejoice in our sufferings, knowing that suffering produces endurance, and endurance produces character, and character produces hope.
~Romans 5:3-4

9.) Peace is only found in Jesus.

I have said these things to you, that in me you may have peace. In the world you will have tribulation. But take heart; I have overcome the world.

God is our refuge and strength, a very present help in trouble.

    1. Maria,

I’m glad the printable is useful to you! I have mine printed and pinned on a peg board right by my computer. Such a comfort.

      Lots of Love,
      Courtney

  1. Such a precious timing from God. I just found out today that my cancer may be back. God has this under His control. These verses are such a comfort today especially. God just lets you know He is there in just so many ways. Give thanks in ALL things!

    1. Teresa, you’re definitely in my prayers. The LORD will be with you and comfort you in this time. HE will be your resting place, your strength and your reward. It is well with your soul.

  2. So uplifting and inspiring, have been feeling numb, hollow and empty ever since my mom passed away in 2014. Just recently divorced as well because my ex husband is an alcoholic and we were married 35+ years but I was tired of being his doormat.

    1. I’m so sorry Susan for all you have been going through. My mom died in September so I know how hard it is. And being on your own I’m sure isn’t easy. I will say a prayer for you that God will give you His strength and peace as you begin this new chapter in life.

  3. The first verse I have clung to since my mom died in September. She was just 63. It’s such a good reminder that He is with me. I have seen the verse several times from Christians I follow on Twitter. It’s as if God is reminding me over and over.

  4. Goodness I need this today! I’m having a rough day at work and balancing motherhood! I feel the enemy trying to get me down but thankful for verses that remind me who is on my side!! Thank you Courtney for this much needed encouragement!!

  5. Thanks so much for these verses. I lost my husband three months ago and have felt so hopeless. I needed this encouragement.

  6. The ten verses are exactly what I need today. I will read them over and over to give me the strength to do what I must do. Thank you for the guidance. Vique

  7. My favorite scripture is: “and we know that all things work together for good to those who love God, to those who are the called according to His purpose. Romans 8:28.

My prayers are also with Teresa!

  8. Thank you so much for the verses. I have been having a lot of bad days lately…. months…. years.. Weeping even now from mental and emotional frustrations. Looking for just enough light for the step I am on.

  9. what a blessing this was to read today. I witness first hand the love of God. I was negative 300 dollars in my checking account, not a penny to my name. Ran out of milk, lunchmeat, and sugar for kool aid and tea. Kids can’t pack PB & J ( nut allergy at school so it’s peanut free) What was I going to do? I prayed. Gave God my heart.. I woke up this morning to find my hubby’s unemployment came early and fixed the negative balance to a positive one and we had funds left over to get the things I needed for their lunches and such…. God is good all the time… I would love to print but my printer wants to be stupid and I am no techy to figure it out…. so I hand wrote these verses in my new journal my oldest daughter gave to me for Christmas and it’s small enough I can take with me in my purse…. This year will be good no matter how ugly things get… God’s got me…..

  10. What a wonderful list!! I’ve relied on many of these verses time and time again. Psalm 46 is one of my very favorite psalms (ok, there are a lot of those…) Verses 2 & 3 remind me that when I feel like giving up because I’m overwhelmed or exhausted or whatever, no matter what happens, He is my strength! “Therefore we will not fear though the earth gives way, though the mountains be moved into the heart of the sea, though its waters roar and foam, though the mountains tremble at its swelling.”

  11. These verses reminded me, I need them every day good or bad. Staying in the Lord’s word will help better prepare me for those days, good or bad. It’s a reminder to seek Him hourly throughout my day and it’s the Lord to turn to when something is bothering me..not always a friend. Sometimes we just don’t give the Lord a chance…we think first..I need to talk with so and so, when it’s talking with God I need first and His word has the answers I need.

  12. …I just got a 2016 calendar of Psalms for my office! Thank you to my friend Madelon, who referred me to your site! 2016 will be an amazing year!

  13. I really needed this today. I was having a rough morning and opened my computer to write a prayer request, but instead, I found this article and it comforted me. It felt like it was sent by God for me to find when I needed it most. And I had a cup of tea after I read it (inspired by that red mug), so it helped, too.

  14. Thank you Courtney from all the way here is Africa, your encouragement is indeed God sent. I’ve been feeling very unloved and not appreciated as a mum and wife!! My God rejoices over me with gladness and has quieted me by His love! Praise God

  15. Thank you so much for your time and effort in sharing faith and hope with others. Thank you also for the printable for this… appreciate that too. It’s been a hard several years but particularly the past two years. Some days can be a struggle as I start over at a time in my life when I didn’t think I would have to or I hoped things would turn out different. I teach my 5 year old son thankfulness even when times are hard and he’s seen me go through so much. I’m proud of him and his attitude and wish to make sure he knows he is always loved… not only by me but by God too. Blessings to all.

  16. I have been having a bad day for way too many months now. I turn to God, pray, study, attend church, and I am still in the deep dark pit of despair and I don’t know why. I can’t seem to shake the depression and I feel I am getting close to falling a part. I just finished reading your book Women Living Well and it has helped some, especially when you are open and honest about your challenges, but I can’t get over this feeling of being a total failure. I was divorced after 30 years of marriage, I am retired, my children are out on their own, my new husband is not a believer and I feel like I have been on a merry-go-round for such a long time and I just want to get off. I printed the 10 Verses and I will keep it front and centre daily. I know those words are true, I am just struggling to find them in my life.

    1. Wow Mag… I too was divorced after 35+ years but my fiance believes and although he needs me to be strong for him, there’s the deep depression as sometimes I blame myself for my divorce even though my ex husband is an alcoholic, a liar and manipulative to get what he wants… he still says that he loves me and tries to get me to hug him back when I have no feelings of wanting to hug him at all. I don’t know for the life of me why he thinks that I can just love him again as 5 years before our separation and divorce I stopped loving him as well as lost all respect for him, I didn’t trust him while we were married and don’t trust him now. He thinks that it happened overnight that I stopped loving him when I had the courage to finally tell him that I struggled for 5 years before our separation and divorce. Things are more complicated by me having to move back into his travel trailer as I can’t afford to live on my own- at least until my fiance comes home for good. He is such a forgiving man who believes in me, adores and cherishes me, loves me even when I don’t love myself… he won’t give up on me because he loves me so much, I thank God every second of every day and night for bringing him into my life when I had given up the hope of ever falling in love again. Had thought that my ex husband was my soul mate but after the death of my mom… did a lot of soul searching and realized why stay in a marriage when you don’t want, need or live that person anymore as for most of my marriage I wasn’t happy because of his alcoholism. Just know Mag that God loves us no matter what and you are in my thoughts and prayers as I can empathize with you in your situation.

  17. Sure needed these and will continue to. My 18 month old daughter was born with congenital heart defects. We’ve been through a lot with her. Right now she has a respiratory infection. Lots of coughing and getting sick. Somwtimes i feel there is no end to it. But then i come across scriptures that help! Thank you.

  18. Just stopped by to say thanks for reminding Christian believers that God really cares about us. And he is ever ready to help. Prayers backed with faith brings a miracle. The Bible has all the encouragement you need.
