Here are this week’s Reflection & Discussion Questions

{If you do not have a group, use these for a personal time of reflection.}:

Chapter 21

Just because we are following the Lord, it does not mean we will not have difficult times.

In Psalm 56:3, David said: “When I am afraid, I put my trust in you.” What are you afraid of today and how can you trust God more?

Chapter 22

David couldn’t go home, or go see Samuel or Jonathan and he couldn’t go to the house of the Lord. In a humble cave he found refuge.

How is God your refuge and safe place, in times of discouragement?

Chapter 23

Jonathan could not rescue David but he could strengthen him.

Is there someone in your life who is in an inescapable trial? You may not be able to rescue them but how can you strengthen them today?

Chapter 24

Rather than taking matters into his own hands, David trusted God to judge and avenge him against Saul.

What situation in your life, do you need to trust yourself less and trust God more?

Chapter 25

There is a great contrast between Abigail and her husband Nabal. Abigail was god-fearing, gentle and humble despite being stuck in a mismatched marriage.

Are you stuck in a relationship that is mismatched perhaps with a boss, co-worker, family member or spouse? How can you remain gentle and humble in this difficult situation?

The Verses of the Day:

I encourage you to choose which verse you’d like to memorize or meditate on.  The printable below includes all 5 verses of the day — for the entire week!  Print and cut them out and put them in the bathroom, kitchen, beside your bed and computer and use them for meditation throughout the week.

This Book of the Law shall not depart from your mouth, but you shall meditate on it day and night, so that you may be careful to do according to all that is written in it. For then you will make your way prosperous, and then you will have good success. – Joshua 1:8

  1. Hello, I have a quick question if you want to start reading the bible where is a good place to start or should I just pick up where you guys are at? Thank you 🙂

    Cindy

    1. First, I think it is probably a really great idea for you to just join us. It will keep you accountable, on track and you can take advantage of Courtney’s Friday teaching videos. Also, even if you do not use social media for yourself, you can to to Courtney’s Instagram and read other people’s insight on the verses. Or if you are on facebook, you can join the discussion there.

We are about to start the book of Luke in a few weeks. That would be a fantastic place to jump in.

But, I don’t want you to ignore the desire to read your bible for 2-3 weeks!! So, meantime you can jump in where we are right now in 1 Samuel, or Courtney did a life changing study on Ecclesiastes.

Even without the Ecclesiastes journal you can do it and find the resources here: https://womenlivingwell.org/ecclesiastes-depth-bible-study-free-video-series/. Scroll down for videos, verses of day, and blog post teaching.

But if you want the Ecclesiastes journal, it was amazing and you can get the kindle version so that you don’t have to wait for shipping. You don’t need to own a kindle for the kindle version to work, you can read it in your browser.

      https://www.amazon.com/Ecclesiastes-Wisdom-Living-Beverly-Wise-ebook/dp/B01FEY46QU/ref=as_li_ss_tl?ie=UTF8&qid=1463320519&ref_=tmm_kin_swatch_0&sr=1-4&linkCode=sl1&tag=womlivwel-20&linkId=8b5d30e905e800a7f6a0209f024d3898

But for general suggestions on where to start reading the Bible, there are so many theories on that.

Some suggest, especially if one is a new believer to start in the gospels. The gospels are the four books of the New Testament written about the life of Christ: Matthew, Mark, Luke, John. Specifically people say John is an excellent starting point.

If one is a long time believer looking to just start more consistent study of scripture, Ephesians and Colossians would be great books to start with.

Romans lays out probably one of the most comprehensive statements on the gospel. But it may be challenging and I don’t want that to create a stumbling block to you before the Holy Spirit has worked on your heart. However, sometime we need to be challenges and shaken to the core right out of our complacency and pride.

If you are a long-time believer and just want to learn God’s Word more, it may be great to start at the beginning, Genesis, and get a comprehensive overview of who God is and how He has worked in bringing us to where we are today.

      1. Wow, thank you so much for responding back and for your suggestions. I will definitely take them under consideration 🙂

  2. Where do I find the schedule for the next study to begin once we are finished with 1 Samuel? I would like to go ahead and let the girls in my group know ???? And do we open our groups up again for new people to join?
