6 Lessons From the Book of Romans

The book of Romans is filled with deep and vital theological lessons for our Christian life. Here are six lessons we can learn from the book of Romans. #Biblestudy #Romans #WomensBibleStudy #GoodMorningGirls

Today we complete our study in the book of Romans. At the end of this post, I’ll share what’s coming next. But first, let’s wrap up our study with a look at:

6 Lessons from the book of Romans

1.) We are all sinners. (Chapters 1 & 2)

In Romans chapters 1 & 2, we see that man’s sin is both intense and serious.  It is worthy of God’s judgement.  Once we understand the intensity and the seriousness of our sin – we realize we really aren’t as good as we thought.

One of the biggest lies of Satan is that there are good people. So many believe that if they are just “good” they will make it to heaven. They are deceived by their own goodness and will face the wrath and fury of the Lord, unless their eyes are opened to truth.

We are all in dire need of a Savior.

2.)  Jesus is our only salvation. (Romans 3-6)

In Roman chapters 3 through 6, we are given hope! Through our faith in Jesus’ saving grace, we are justified, redeemed and declared righteous!

Salvation comes through Jesus Christ and his work on the cross.

Our salvation is by grace alone, through faith alone, through Christ alone, to the glory of God…alone!

3.) We experience God in our suffering.(Romans 5)

When God saved us from our sins, we escaped his coming wrath but we don’t get to escape all the hardships that come along with this life. Instead, we get to live our lives with the presence of a loving Heavenly Father, who is always with us. He goes before us and guides,  comforts, strengthens and protects us.

There is NO greater proof or evidence of God’s love for us, than Jesus’ death on the cross.

4.) There is no rejection, no condemnation and no separation for those in Christ Jesus.(Romans 7 & 8)

We will always wrestle with sin (Romans 7) but we do not have to do good works to avoid punishment. We are free to walk in the Spirit and obey God because we love him.

We may trip up, make mistakes, go astray and struggle a thousand times but there is still no condemnation for us.

Positionally in Christ we are forgiven but that does not mean God removes all of our struggles and problems. Instead, when we make mistakes – there is no condemnation.  When we go astray – there is no condemnation and when we struggle day after day with our flesh, there is still no condemnation.

There is no rejection for those who are in Christ Jesus!

5.) God is sovereign in salvation and we must share the gospel! (Romans 9-11)

Israel believed in national election – they were the chosen ones.  But here Paul emphasizes individual election and how God chooses based on his purposes. In spite of Israel’s privileges, they had failed to believe.  Israel’s failure to believe was not a failure of the fulfillment of God’s word but rather the working of God’s will. By God’s grace, His plan includes Gentiles for salvation.

Because of God’s great love and mercy, we must proclaim the gospel to others!  They cannot believe unless we share the truth.

6.) Believers are called to love our neighbors and help the weak. (Romans 12-16)

When we accepted God’s grace through faith in Christ, we freely received an outpouring of God’s love.  In return, we are commanded to love others as we love ourself.  This means we are to love believers and unbelievers and even our enemies.

This is a supernatural love that only God can give us.

Inside the church, we are called to use our spiritual gifts to build one another up, not pass judgment on each other, not cause a sister or brother in Christ to stumble, help those who are weak in the faith and avoid those who cause divisions.

We are commanded to love our neighbor as ourself.

May the degree of our self-seeking be the degree of our self-giving.

Friends, the most important thing in life is our walk with God.  It’s not about checking off boxes but rather, it’s about a real genuine, authentic relationship that is alive and intimate.  It’s about a relationship where you deeply love God and are not ashamed of Him.  It is essential that we know God’s Word, believe God’s Word and obey God’s Word, in order to please Him.

And that is what we are all about here at Good Morning Girls!

If you made it to the end of this book – Congratulations – I am so proud of you!

Don’t stop reading and meditating on God’s Word!

What’s Next?

There will be 4 total Bible Studies this year (winter, spring, summer and fall).  During the breaks, I plan to be here blogging – so I’m not going anywhere – I just won’t be leading a formal Bible Study.

For those of you who have completed our 1 Samuel Bible Study – you’ll be happy to hear that we are continuing on into 2 Samuel.

For those who have not studied the book of 1 Samuel yet, you could study 1 Samuel on our break!  You can find all of the free resources and videos for that study available on this page here –> 1 Samuel. Check it out!

Our next study, through 2 Samuel, will begin on April 1st and it will last 5 weeks.

The 2 Samuel Journal is available NOW exclusively on Amazon.

I’ll be back later this week with some fresh content…and in March I’ll be sharing a new project with you that I’ve been working on. If you are looking for more Bible Studies to do – check out the Good Morning Girls Resources Page. All of the links from the “Reading Through the Bible” Series are posted there.

I’ll see you back here soon!

What did you learn from our study in the Book of Romans?

  1. Thank you so much for this study, Courtney! Being honest, I was so afraid of reading Romans. I had started reading the book alone couple months ago, and gave up after few chapters. I could not understand much of it. When I learned that it was going to be next GMG study, I jumped in knowing that I needed help with it. And it has been so rich!! There were some areas that did not open much, but that is ok. The whole book and study was so rich, and it was well put together including all those amazing summaries!

  2. Wonderful study! Thank you for all that you do and sharing the Lord with us. ???? Looking forward to the next one.

  3. Interesting study. What you say about keeping teens in the church hit home to my heart. You do not say anything, however, how I obtain this salvation.

    1. Cristie,

      Romans 10:9,10 says,

“if you confess with your mouth that Jesus is Lord and believe in your heart that God raised him from the dead, you will be saved. 10 For with the heart one believes and is justified, and with the mouth one confesses and is saved.”

If you have not placed your faith in Jesus yet – I pray that you do today!

      Lots of Love,
      Courtney

  4. This study opened a side of me up that I never was there. I ended up making a t-shirt designed around Romans 5: 3-4. It was something that came to me during my studying and was like a continuous tugging at my heart. I done it and now I am on journey to keep designing and helping people around me understand that we ALL FALL SHORT but that doesn’t mean we DON’T KEEP MOVING FORWARD. Thank you very much Courtney you are a blessing to a girl who was in a dark place. Church hurt and brokenness is just the beginning but I refuse to give up so I will continue this journey forever and I look forward to seeing how my life unfolds. Blessings to you and your family!
