March Bible Reading Plan & Intro to Matthew

March Bible Reading Plan

Today we begin our study in the book of Matthew {cue the confetti!}. The author Matthew, also called Levi, left his job as a tax collector to become a disciple in Matthew 9:9: “As Jesus went on from there, he saw a man named Matthew sitting at the tax collector’s booth. “Follow me,” he told him, and Matthew got up and followed him.“ The Gospel of Matthew was written to the Jews. Matthew focused on the fulfillment of the Old Testament, quoting it 62 times, more than any other gospel writer. For those of you color coding (see chart below), […]

It’s Moving Day! {Exodus 40}

Moses did everything just as the Lord commanded him.

Have you ever moved from one home to another? It’s a lot of work – but it’s exciting! I remember preparing my boxes for the movers.  Each box was labeled by a big black marker. On moving day, I stood in command, pointing the men in the right direction. In Exodus 40, it’s moving day and God is in command! God is telling Moses to set up the tabernacle and exactly where to put each piece.  God is detailed and Moses is obedient. “Moses did everything just as the Lord commanded him.”   (Exodus 40:16) Seven times we are told […]

How Pinterest Makes Us Feel {Exodus 31,35}

How Pinterest Makes Us Feel

Pinterest – it’s a virtual pin board where we can pin recipes, cute shoes, birthday party ideas, great quotes, home decorating ideas, DIY tutorials, hair styles, and much, much more! We love it (it’s the fastest growing social media platform right now) and apparently…according to my google search (I screenshot for you  below)–we hate it. I typed the words, “pinterest makes me feel” and this is what automatically came up: So this is sad right? Because there is so much to learn and enjoy on Pinterest.  But clearly the feast for our eyes there, makes us feel really bad about ourselves. […]

Heaven is For Real: What the Bible Says About Heaven {Exodus 26-30}

Heaven is for real - what the Bible says about heaven

There have been a lot of books written about heaven that sit on the best seller lists. Clearly, people are curious about the after life. But rather than listening to a 4 year old’s story or hearing from the “Boy Who Came Back From Heaven” who recently announced it was a lie and he did not go to heaven –  I recommend we look into God’s Word and see what He says about HIS dwelling place. As we read Exodus 26-30 this week, you may have felt bogged down with the details of the building of the tabernacle ….but check out […]

If We Don’t Understand This, We Don’t Understand the Bible {Exodus 24}

If We Don't Understand This, We Don't Understand the Bible

We are just completing our 5th week in the book of Exodus!  Way to go Good Morning Girls! (click here to get the February Bible Reading Plan if you missed it.) The first half of Exodus is interesting.  We can relate to the stories and stand in awe of our powerful God…but the second half of Exodus becomes a bit more daunting to trudge through – but  – if we don’t understand this, we don’t understand the rest of the Bible. The Old Testament has 39 books in it. These books contain history, law, poetry, wisdom, and prophecy. The one thread that […]

February Bible Reading Plan

February Bible Reading Plan

  Welcome back to week 5 in the book of Exodus! Let me forewarn you – this week’s reading is HARD!  This is why very few read through the Bible verse by verse…because we can’t skip the hard or tedious chapters. We will read  There will be times where finding application will not be easy and that is OKAY!  Sometimes we are simply learning – in it’s context – about the character of God.  Sometimes the application is simply that God’s ways are higher than ours. “For as the heavens are higher than the earth, so are my ways […]

The Problem With OMG {Exodus 20}

The Problem with OMG

It’s everywhere – the term “OMG”. It’s in magazines, movies, on television, Facebook,  Twitter, blogs…yes, Christian ones, at Christian conferences…on the platform {gasp!} and it even sneaked into our house on a shirt my daughter received as a Christmas gift. Alexis wore this shirt (pictured above) to a church activity and when she returned home her brother looked right at her shirt and said, “Whoa!  Why are you letting her wear that?” I did not even notice the words “OMG Cake!” were on that flag.  So my husband took a black sharpie marker and turned the O into a “heart” and the […]

Trusting God in the Midst of a Trial {Exodus 14}

Trusting God in the midst of a trial {Exodus 14}

  Are you in the midst of a trial? Or do you feel like you’ve gone from trial to trial to trial?  Then this video is for you: {if you are reading this in email or feed, come on over to the blog to see the video and join the discussion!} In Exodus 14, the infamous story of Moses parting the Red Sea is told.  As the story unfolds, we see the mighty power of our God.  I  mean seriously – the Red Sea literally rolled back and the ground was dry for the Israelites! Some skeptics have said that the […]
