OVERVIEW OF STILL STANDING

Still Standing is not a memoir or a biography

While I share a lot of stories about different struggles that I have faced in the darkness โ€“ this book is not meant to be about me.

This is a “how to” book.

The subtitle reads: HOW TO Live in Godโ€™s Light While Wrestling With the Dark.

I remember my pastor once saying:
all of us are either:
coming out of a trial,
going into a trial
or are about to go into a trial.”

I want you to know that whatever you are going through – you are not alone and my hope is that YOU would be the one STILL STANDING victorious over the darkness – because the darkness is real and none of us get through life unscathed!

NOW LETโ€™S GET STARTED!

This weekโ€™s Reflection & Discussion Questions

In your book, there are 5 Reflection Questions at the end of each chapter. I am choosing a few of the questions for our Book Club Discussions here.

I invite you to come back here, through out the week, and share your answers to one or two or all of the questions in the comment section below! <3

  1. Are there any areas where you feel the enemy is attacking you right now?
  2. Praying God’s word is a powerful way to change your prayer life. How could you implement this more in your life?
  3. God uses people to help us. Has a stranger ever helped you? Think back to a time when God used a friend or stranger to help. How were they God’s hands and feet to you?
  4. Jacob grew closer to God through wrestling with him. His wrestling match led to resting. Have you experienced this? When was the last time you wrestled with God and found peace on the other side?
  5. Romans 8:28 says that “for those who love God all things work together for good.” Tell of a time when something not good in your life worked out to be good for you. How does remembering how God worked in your life encourage you as you face some of the hard things in your life right now?

I’ll see you back HERE this Friday with a wrap-up video about this week’s reading.

**Until then, please share with us in the comments some of your thoughts and reflections from this week’s reading. Can’t wait to chat with you here!

Keep walking with the King,

Courtney

  1. Courtney I am so thankful for this book. I feel it has come for me at the perfect time. I watched your husbandโ€™s video about losing his wife last night and I am in awe at the way he has handled it with such grace and peace. God bless you both on your new marriage!

The question that stuck out to me today was number 5. After reflection on question 3, (the areas in which the enemy attacks) it was like a lightbulb for me and I realized that I have allowed the enemy access into areas of my life that belong to the Lord! Making a list and calling out those things that I know are lies has helped me to remember that Jesus is my provider.

    1. Thank you so much Angie for sharing this and for your encouragement!

I love that you are making a list today of the areas where you are seeing the enemies lies! 1 Peter 5:8 tells us to be sober and alert. God wants us to be watching
and paying attention to where we are being tempted to not trust in him. Calling out those areas will free you and help you “take those thoughts captive”.(2 Corinthians 10:5)

I pray that the Lord will give you provision and rest as you trust in him. Keep on going!! <3

      Lots of Love,
      Courtney ๐Ÿ™‚

    2. Yes! I agree. Satan is very sneaky and deceptive. I have 2 areas that Satan is attacking me in right now. My finances and my relationship with food. Ugh! I’m giving it to God.

  2. The enemy likes to use my lifelong hearts deepest desires saying : you’ve never had these; and you never will…look how late it is, your dreams will never come true: attunement, joy, fulfillment in marriage- your not going to be seen, heard and truly known by your husband…it’s been 41 years. I set the trap from the day you were born and given away, to the forced ultimatum given by your parents at age 16, so they could be free of you.
You’re not getting the grandchild you have so longed for, while friends all around have many.
You will not know fulfillment this side of heaven.

    1. Oh Judy, Thank you for sharing these deep heartaches with us. I can only imagine how tender your heart must feel right now. I can see how the enemy wants to steal your future and your joy from you. He wants to leave you feeling hopeless because of the past and the discouragement of the present and while there is the hope of heaven – I do believe God wants you to experience his joy now here on earth too.

I’m so glad you are joining us these next four weeks and I pray that God does a mighty work in just shining his light in your life so that you are encouraged and feel less alone. You are not alone! You are loved intimately by your heavenly father – he sees you and he cares. Those who have hurt you are not like your heavenly father. I am praying for you now that on THIS side of heaven you do experience the fulfillment that only the good Lord can give. Stay strong in the Lord!!! ๐Ÿ‘Š โค

Much Love and prayers this morning for you,
      Courtney

  3. I am struggling with question #1. I am trying to overcome the enemy of bitterness towards a family at church that has caused much strife within our church family. I attend a small congregation in the rural and it just breaks my heart to see people treat God’s family so cruel.

    1. Dear Jackie,

I’m so sorry for the pain and heartache you have experienced inside the church. We know that is not of God. In Section 4 (week 4) of Still Standing, we’ll talk about church wounds and I hope it comforts you to know you are not alone. I know the struggle and pray that God would help you remove the bitterness and protect your church and restore your joy, peace and love.

      Keep on standing strong,
      Courtney

  4. Yes! I agree. Satan is very sneaky and deceptive. I have 2 areas that Satan is attacking me in right now. My finances and my relationship with food. Ugh! I’m giving it to God.

    1. Oh goodness – both are so hard and places where the enemy has attacked me as well Marlene. Keep giving it to him and I pray you are encouraged over the next 4 weeks as we push back the darkness. Saying a prayer for you now. <3

      Lots of Love,
      Courtney

  5. I am struggling in the area of finances and poverty with 2 kids. I’m also in a toxic relationship with a narcissist. Hoping things will get better and I can break put of these cycles in the future.

    1. Dear Takia,

I’m so sorry for the stress you are facing. The enemy does not want to see you free.
Today’s reading is in Chapter 3 – and we looked at how God uses his people as his hands and feet to help us and work in our lives. Do you have a church you are attending? Please consider asking them to help you during this time so you can get away from the narcissist and stabilize your finances. I am praying now that the Lord would give you wisdom and strength as you navigate this difficult road. You are strong!!! Keep going and Keep the faith! God is near and he loves you.

      Lots of Love,
      Courtney

      1. Yes I have a church and some of the people I know are praying for me and have been able to help a little. Thank you sister!

  6. Good morning Courtney, I have been so overwhelmed with my daughters medical issues. I was able to catch up on reading and being close with God. I have been praying for healing, guidance, strength and courage through this time. Please say a prayer for us. Thank you, this book came in the right time with all that I’m going through. God bless you ๐Ÿ™ โค๏ธ

    1. Good Morning Malinda,

I’m so sorry for what you are going through with your daughter, โค๏ธโ€๐Ÿฉน I am glad you got some time alone with the Lord this week. am saying a prayer now for your daughter. Stay strong. God is with you both and loves you so much.

      Lots of Love,
      Courtney

  7. Judy, I agree with you. The enemy is telling me that my adult children will never come back to God even though they are saved and were given back to God to serve Him a few hours after they were born by me at my bedside in the hospital. He keeps telling me they have strayed and are irretrievable!!! This torments me..

  8. When my husband left me for another woman, it was the most painful experience of my life.
I then experienced job loss during this same season of my life. I cried out to God and He answered.
He told me that He would never leave me or forsake me and that has been true for the last 24 years.
I have continued to experience some very tough seasons in my life which have all strengthened my faith.
Life can sure be hard on this side of heaven.
I had friends come to me and help me and prayed for me and with me during this tough time.
I now try to help others and be a blessing to others when they are in a rough season.
Thank you for writing this book to help me and every person that reads it!
