Welcome to the 15th Annual Making Your Home a Haven Bible Study!  15 years ago, we began this series and never could I have imagined how much it would resonate with so many women around the world!

Each year we have a different focus.
This year we are focusing on ->
Life Rhythms That Bring Rest

This Bible Study is going to help you slow down as we take a close look at the rhythms of nature, rhythms of work, rhythms of reflection, and rhythms of remembrance that lead to —> rest.

Letโ€™s take care of our souls by intentionally creating a physical environment, as well as a spiritual environment, in our homes that brings us closer to God.  As a result, we will experience peace and a sense of calmness inside our souls, no matter what we are facing.

  • Each week, I will provide for you a practical challenge of something I do in my home that makes it more of a haven.  I hope you will take the challenges.  They do make a difference!
  • Each weekday, we will pause, give thanks, pray and meditate on Godโ€™s Word through SOAKing in the daily scripture reading for the day.
  • This journal gives you a daily devotional and space for journaling your thoughts on the verse of the day.
  • There is also space in the journal for your weekly gratitude list and prayer requests.
  • Also, you will find 4 videos, one per week (every Monday), that correspond with the scriptures we are studying.

This study begins on Monday, November 4th!

Hereโ€™s the Topic Schedule:

Week 1: Rhythms of Nature

โ€œGod called the light Day, and darkness he called Night.”
Genesis 1:5

God created rhythms and cycles that give our lives structure, order and rest. Every day the sun rises and the sun sets. Every week, there are seven days in the week and every year there are four seasons.

Challenge for the Week: Start a daily gratitude list AND go buy an extra-large candle and light a candle everyday in your home.  Each time the glimmer of the candle catches your eye, stop, pray and give thanks.

Week 2: Rhythms of Work

“The wisest of women builds her house,
but folly with her own hands tears it downโ€
Proverbs 14:1

Many of us are over functioning and wearing ourselves out. When we live in a state of chronic stress and exhaustion our body goes into survival mode. Our God is not a taskmaster, he wants us to balance our work load with rest.

Challenge for the Week: Keep your candle going and add to it soft music everyday in your home.  Choose worship, classical or another form of peaceful music that helps you focus on the Lord.

Week 3: Rhythms of Reflection

Above all else, guard your heart,
for everything you do flows from it.
Proverbs 4:23

The condition of our heart determines what we love, our affections, our character, our priorities, the decisions we make, the words we say and our relationship with others. Through built in rhythms of reflection our hearts can rest.

Challenge for the Week: Keep your candle burning, the music playing and purchase a small bouquet of flowers for yourself.  Let that bouquet be a daily reminder of Godโ€™s love  and presence with you.

Week 4: Rhythms of Remembrance

Jesus said, “This is my body, which is for you.
Do this in remembrance of me.”
1 Corinthians 11:24-25

In the midst of our busy lives, it’s easy to forget. We forget about Jesus’ body broken for us and his blood that covers our sins. We forget how much we are loved, how much we are forgiven and how grateful we are to be. Through communion, memorization, and celebration we are reminded that we can rest in the Lord.

Challenge for the Week: Rest is a need not a want.  Rest is not optional and it is a blessing from the Lord.  So, seek out a place of solitude to rest and pray. Get alone with God outside or in your home.  Be still with God and take a much needed bubble bath, nap or still time with the Lord.
