How To Be a Treasure To Your Husband

Word Filled Wednesday:
Proverbs 31: 10 – “A wife of noble character who can find? She is worth far more than rubies.”
A noble wife is rare and extraordinary – just like a ruby! A noble wife is a treasure to her husband – just like a ruby! Do you want to be extraordinary and a treasure to your husband? Then we need to learn to possess a NOBLE character!
Last week we began our walk through Proverbs 31 together. For the next 20 weeks on Wednesdays, we will look at the characteristics of a noble woman.
So let me tell you what a wife of noble character does not look like!
1. She does not rival her husband.
2. She does not mope around and complain about her housework.
3. She does not overspend and put her family into debt.
4. She is not bored, discontent, greedy or selfish.
5. She does not gossip and slander others.
6. She does not spend her days doing leisurely shopping, texting, emailing, web browsing, watching late night movies, and sleeping in.
7. She does not criticize, mock, or disrespect her husband.
8. She does not have children and a husband who embarrass her.
9. She does not let her outer beauty takes precedence over her inner beauty.
10. She does not take God’s word lightly.
A wife of noble character, who can find? She is rare! And when she is found – her value is priceless! She is a treasure to her husband! I want to be that ruby! In order to become like the Proverbs 31 woman, we must humble ourselves and see our flaws. We must be willing to change some things – our attitudes, our thought patterns, our work ethic, our words, and what we spend our time on. But by God’s grace, you can become a woman of noble character! So for today, begin by evaluating yourself against the list above. Which character quality are you weak in? Pray and ask God for the strength to change in 2010!
Walk with the King!

  1. I love this! I do find my self complaining more than need be. I know I shouldn't. When I get stressed,I sometimes get anxious with my family. This is definitely something I need to work on. Thank you for sharing!

  2. Courtney,
This was wonderful and what a blessing for ME today…You know I want to be that precious ruby and you and I both know THAT takes work!

    This was truly a blessing!

  3. Overall, this is a good post, but I always find in interesting that people post about not sleeping in, but they don't post about going to bed early. 😉

I stay up late to get things done instead of waking up really early. (I naturally accomplish much more at night than in the morning.)

We need to make sure that whatever we do is honoring to God and our husband — that will look different for each person/family.

  4. I appreciated what you said about not rivaling her husband. It saddens me when I see this happen. In modern-day America, women seem to have a need to compete with their husbands. The words of Jesus come to mind about a "house divided against itself cannot stand."
I don't see how we can be unified when we are in competition with each other, do you?

You site is so refreshing. Thank you for this!

  5. This is a great study I my friend and I are going to go over this with our daughters. Thank You the time and effort you have put into this.

  6. I just had two items for myself, in an online shopping cart, but something said don't buy these! I went to check my blog and saw the title of your latest post and thought alright how can I be a treasure. Then I read it and realized I made the right decision.

  7. 6. She does not spend her days doing leisurely shopping, texting, emailing, web browsing, watching late night movies, and sleeping in.
Guilty of 80% of this list. I am slowly working on changing my work habits and for sure need to put a timer on my computer time!

    thanks for a great post.

  8. *She does not spend her days doing leisurely shopping, texting, emailing, web browsing, watching late night movies, and sleeping in.*
    Awwww…Can't I just a little bit??? 😉
Always enjoy reading your posts! This just struck me as funny because unfortunately this is the view I think a lot of people hold about stay-at-home wives/mothers. This is far from the truth for most of us!
Every now and then I have gotten a "day off" and it doesn't last- simply because I don't want it to! Taking care of my family is hard work but worth it- thanks for your posts and encouraging words!

  9. I love how you give God the glory concerning becoming a treasure to our husbands! It is Him that helps us to make these changes. I have learned that I can not do it on my own. But, with His help, I can be who He wants me to be and who my husband needs me to be! It's so wonderful to see someone who is FOR our marriages! Thank you!

  10. Okay…W.O.W. I just found your blog 'by accident'. I'm stunned and amazed. What an inspiration you are!

I'm about 10 years older than you but you are teaching me!

I will be doing the Proverbs 31 study a little late, but better late than never.

Beautiful post. I'll be visiting very often.

    God bless you!

  11. Just discovered your blog. It has been so inspiring. I get married next month and it is my desire to become the P31 wife.

This post has really challenged me and some of my current behaviours which need to change!

Thanks again and look forward to reading more from the series.
