Are you having a hard time trusting God with your finances?

Do you find yourself worrying about money and how to make ends meet?

Perhaps this past year was a hard year for you financially. Maybe a medical emergency, a job loss or a slow year in your line of work, has caused setbacks for you. Or maybe you made a mistake and purchased something you can’t really afford or loaned money to someone who is not paying you back.

Financial issues are stressful. Thoughts about how to make ends meet can consume us if we are not careful. One verse that has come to mind lately, when I start to get stressed about my finances is Proverbs 22:3. It says:

The prudent see danger and take refuge, but the simple keep going and pay the penalty.

Sometimes, we need to simply trust the Lord more – but other times we need to take action. We need to reassess the situation and if we see danger – take refuge rather than just plowing ahead and staying on the same course. We may need to change our spending habits, cut back in areas where we can cut back, say no to things we would usually say yes to or get a second job. And even though this is hard, this is applying wisdom to our spending and honoring to God.

God cares about your financial needs, but he doesn’t want us to just sit and pray and wait for a miracle. There are things that we can do about it.

If you find yourself struggling to trust God with your finances, meditate on these encouraging verses and allow God to fill you with all wisdom as you seek Him!

Here’s 10 Verses for When You Struggle to Trust God with Your Finances-

1. God loves you. He sees and cares about your financial needs.

For the Lord God is a sun and shield; the Lord bestows favor and honor. No good thing does he withhold from those who walk uprightly. ~Psalm 84:11

2. God is already right there with you – you only need to acknowledge his presence.

God is able to make all grace abound to you, so that having all sufficiency in all things at all times, you may abound in every good work. ~2 Corinthians 9:8

3. Contentment is so important. It keeps us from over spending. God wants us to surrender all of our lives to him and trust in him.

Keep your life free from love of money, and be content with what you have, for he has said, “I will never leave you nor forsake you.” ~Hebrews 13:5

4. God wants us to be cheerful when we give- not worried.

Whoever sows sparingly will also reap sparingly, and whoever sows bountifully will also reap bountifully. Each one must give as he has decided in his heart, not reluctantly or under compulsion, for God loves a cheerful giver. ~2 Corinthians 9:6-7

5. Money can become a fixation of our hearts if we do not guard our hearts.  Money is not to be our source of joy, our source of security or a source of pride.

No one can serve two masters, for either he will hate the one and love the other, or he will be devoted to the one and despise the other. You cannot serve God and money.  ~Matthew 6:24

6. Make wise decisions with your finances. Create a budget so that you don’t overspend.

For which of you, desiring to build a tower, does not first sit down and count the cost, whether he has enough to complete it? ~Luke 14:28

7. Examine your heart- money is not a bad thing, but the love of it can draw you away.

For the love of money is a root of all kinds of evils. It is through this craving that some have wandered away from the faith and pierced themselves with many pangs. ~1 Timothy 6:10

8. Practice generosity. Give, and it will be given to you.

Give, and it will be given to you. Good measure, pressed down, shaken together, running over, will be put into your lap. For with the measure you use it will be measured back to you.  ~Luke 6:38

9. God will always provide and meet your needs. Use this as an opportunity to increase your faith.

If God so clothes the grass, which is alive in the field today, and tomorrow is thrown into the oven, how much more will he clothe you, O you of little faith! ~Luke 12:28

10. Seek the Lord in prayer, seek guidance from others and once you have peace – go in faith, work hard and do what you feel God has called you to do.

My God will supply every need of yours according to his riches in glory in Christ Jesus. ~Philippians 4:19

Your purpose and calling is to glorify God right where you are.  Do not focus on what your eyes see.  Everything we see is temporary and physical.  There is an eternal and spiritual world that we cannot see but is more real than this physical world.

Trust the words of the Lord- He will always provide!

Honor God with your finances.

Faithfully obey his every command.

And remember, God owns everything- trust Him one day at a time.

Keep walking with the King!
