What is a Book Really Worth?
I met with a christian counselor off and on for a period of 2 years after my husband left me.
She was fabulous! I loved how she gave me individual care and got to know me by listening to my heart. Then she guided me and most importantly prayed with me.
But…
Since I was in high school, christian books have been some of my greatest counselors, mentors and guides. People I’ve never met have helped me through the dating years, the first years of marriage, parenting, homemaking, homeschooling, and more.
These authors have given me Biblical insight, wisdom, and knowledge to walk me through the valleys and mountain tops of life. They have inspired me with their life stories and have challenged me to holiness, to go deeper in my prayer life and have taught me things I could learn no where else.
I’m so grateful for the amazing influence these writers have had on my life.
And so I recognize the value of a book.
But can I admit? My book is about to release this Tuesday, April 16th and I find it incredibly awkward trying to “sell” my book and offer preorder freebies and talk about it over and over.
And so I’m forced to ask myself, what is a book really worth? Is it worth taking months and years of my life to write, edit and publish a book? Is it worth the money that you will pay to purchase the book?
I believe it is.
I wrote Still Standing because I believe in the incredible value of a book.
It can be expensive and hard to find good mentors and counselors in real life and so for just a fraction of the cost of one session with a counselor, I will share priceless lessons I have learned through living in God’s light while wrestling in the dark. My hope is that God would use this book the same way he has used countless books in my life.
(And perhaps if you are a counselor, we can work together and if my book can be of any help to the women you are serving, I’d love for you to pass it along to them.)
One of my favorite things about a book is that it can go places I’ll never be able to go!
A book can sit on a nightstand for bedtime reading or get slipped inside a beach bag to go to the pool or get thrown in the back of a car and then picked up while a mom is waiting in the carpool line. A book can get carried to church to be used in a small group or sit in the lap of a woman curled up in a blanket, keeping her company on a cold winter night.
Oh goodness I love a good book!
I don’t know where this book will go – that is in the Lord’s hands. But for those who already purchased the book – I CANNOT WAIT to read this book along side you this summer!
