Week 2 – Rhythms of Work
In your Bible reading this week, you will be focusing on the rhythms of work that lead to rest.
In Genesis 1, God created the heavens and the earth in six days and then, on the seventh day, he rested.
God was not tired – but God gave his work a LIMIT – a limit that led to rest.
We all have LIMITS.
We all have energy limits, financial limits, time limits, health limits, if we are married or single that brings limits, the number of children or ages of our children or grandchildren brings limits.
We can’t say yes to everything in every season.
Know your season.
In humility – we need to accept that we have limits.
You see, work began in the Garden of Eden. In Genesis 2:15, it says that the Lord God took the man and put him in the Garden of Eden to work it and keep it.
Work is good.
God ordained work to be done before sin entered the world. So work is not a result of sin but rather it is the frustrations built into our work, that is a result of the fall and sin.
Work should be a joy to us.
“So God created man in his own image, in the image of God he created him; male and female he created them. 28 And God blessed them. And God said to them, “Be fruitful and multiply and fill the earth and subdue it, and have dominion over the fish of the sea and over the birds of the heavens and over every living thing that moves on the earth.”
When we work, we are reflecting God’s image.
God works!
Work is a part of God’s original design. In Genesis 1:28, God told them to be fruitful, multiply, fill the earth, subdue the earth and have dominion over it.
God has built into the design of every man and woman – a plan for us to work.
So let’s get started!
🕯️ Week 2 – Challenge 🎶
Keep your candle going and add to it – soft music every day in your home. Choose worship, classical or another form of peaceful music that helps you focus on the Lord.
My candle and soft music literally change the atmosphere of my home. While the rest of my home may be messy, my candle keeps on burning and my soft music keeps on playing. Morning, noon and night they serve me. My candle serves me with a flickering warm light, a pleasant scent, and a reminder to turn to God as my source of strength and help. My music serves me with a soothing sound. They don’t make messes, they don’t need managed, they just simply bless me and my family. I hope it blesses you too.

Jesus came in the flesh! God dwelt among us. He went from the stable to the cross because of his love for you and me.
You are so very loved.
Peace. Be Still.
This journal is meant to take 5-10 minutes a day (in the month of December) to simply pause and reflect on Jesus. He is Emmanuel – God with us!
He is the Wonderful Counselor, the Mighty God, the Everlasting Father and the Prince of Peace.
“For to us a child is born, to us a son is given; and the government shall be upon his shoulder and his name shall be called Wonderful Counselor, Mighty God, Everlasting Father, Prince of Peace.” – Isaiah 6:9
