Good Morning Girls Fall Kick-Off!!!

Do you wish you were more consistent in your daily walk with God?

Do you wish you had a few friends you could discuss deeper things with – like your quiet times with God?

How about starting a Good Morning Girls Group?

The “Good Morning Girls” is a title for a group of women who use email to keep each other accountable for their quiet times. For 2 years straight, I have been a part of 5 girls who email each other each weekday morning after we have our quiet time. We say “Good Morning” and then share what we read in our quiet time. Some of us have our quiet time first thing in the morning, while others squeeze it in during children’s naps or at bedtime.

Our main goal is to be accountable to each other. This is not a mentorship, discipleship or bible study ministry. When our group started we had 11 women – within five months we were down to 5 women and those 5 have stuck now for 2 years. Over time, we have learned a lot about each other and have bonded. We discuss marriage, parenting, homemaking and more. We have fasted and prayed for each other in times of trouble, have kept each other accountable in specific areas of weakness and in the summer we always read a book together to discuss.

Our Good Morning Girls group (pictured here) is all similar in age and place in life (we are all stay-at-home moms) but we each have very unique personalities, gifts, children and husbands – so we always leave room for differences in preferences. This is important in creating a bond with the group. You do not have to all be similar in age but you do have to be willing to love each other unconditionally.

Would you like to start your own Good Morning Girls group? I’d like to help you along your way!!! Here’s what you can do. First pray and ask God to show you who to invite – then email 2-10 friends and invite them to join your “Good Morning Girls” Group.

Copy and paste this description of what the group is in the body of your email:

A Good Morning Girls Group is a group of women who love Jesus and love their sisters in Christ. The main goal is to keep each other accountable in their daily quiet time with God.

Each morning Monday through Friday – after you have your quiet time you will email the group just to say – “I read xyz in my quiet time today.” The first person to email for the day begins the “thread”, then everyone else responds through out the day to say what they learned during their quiet time.

Joining this group is a 3 month commitment. At the end of three months you can reassess whether you’d like to continue the group or dissolve the group. There will be a chance to re-enroll in January.

Here’s a sample Good Morning Girls email:

Monday 6:35am– Good Morning Girls! I just had my quiet time in Proverbs 31 – it really motivated me to get busy cleaning today – so I’m off to clean – have a great day!

7:15am – (the next girl in the group replies)–– Good Morning! I just read in I Corinthians 13 about love – I am so convicted about the way I have been treating my husband lately. I’m going to start memorizing this passage.

1:15pm(the next girl in the group replies) – the kids are down for their naps and after seeing that you read in I Corinthians 13 today – I decided to read there too – oh it is so convicting – for me it’s with my mother-in-law – I’m really struggling to unconditionally love her. Say a prayer for me today if you think of it!

Final replier of the day 9:15pm – oh girls – I had a terrible day – I woke up late – the kids would not sleep during their naps and I’m just now getting to my quiet time with God. I’m so glad I have you guys or I’d be tempted to not meet with God at all. So I sat down and read in Psalm 62 and had a precious time with God – I really needed to hear those words. I’m praying for you all and your marriages and in-laws. Hang in there – talk to ya again tomorrow! Night Night!

And that’s how it goes!

  1. Beautiful! I'm trying to think who I could invite and who would not shoot it down as "one more thing I have to do". Pray that I can find a way to make this work, please.
    Hugs,
    Suzanne

  2. Suzanne and Amanda – I am praying for you both as you consider it and NO pressure! Do what God lays on your heart. I know it feels like a big committment but I know you won't be disappointed by the rewards you will reap!!!

  4. i'm so excited about this idea! i sent an email out to my mommy and me class at the y to see whta kind of response i get. i started the study that you sent me that i won. i received it and really appreciate it! it's awesome already.

  5. That is the most AWESOME idea, ever! I try to be consistent in my time with God, but it would be so nice to have other women to connect with in this way. Our church has small groups that meet, but they're always at night too close to my son's bedtime. This would be PERFECT for me. If anyone has any problems finding people to do this with, maybe we could find each other through you and your blog! Who says we actually have to live near each other or already personally know each other to do this, huh? 🙂

  6. I love this idea, Courtney!! I may suggest this to my Bible Study when we meet in a couple of weeks… a great way to keep each other accountable in doing our "homework." You have the greatest ideas … love your blog.

  7. Courtney – I always enjoy hearing about your "Good Morning Girls." It seems like such a neat way to fellowship and to "spur one another on towards love and good deeds." And I LOVE that you are willing to invest yourself so that other women can have that too. I am praying now about who my Girls will be. 🙂

  8. what a GREAT idea! A friend told me about this because she knows my passion for quiet times and getting others to grow in their relationship with Jesus by getting into the word daily. I LOVE your idea and will definately be praying about this…
blessings in your pursuit of Him!

  10. Thanks Courtney, what a great idea, I got this in my mailbox on Saturday and the idea could not leave my thoughts. so, i think i have been convicted.

I'm just thinking, who am i going to invite and if it will be best to ask girls from my country. (South-africa)
    will pray about it.

  11. Is it too late to start my own group? I have truly been bleassed by your blog. I normally "search" for uplifting, encouraging, biblical support but I have found everything here! Thanks! Sofie

  12. Sofie – it is not too late!!! Invite a friend or two to begin the emailing process. Once they have agreed – email me your email address and the number in the group and your city and state you are from and I'll add you to the newsletter list!!! I look forward to hearing from you again!!!

  13. Courtney,
I am a stay-at-home mom also. I know I am late finding this website, but I LOVE the idea of a "Good Morning Girls" group and NEED the accountability too! I also appreciate your discernment and wisdom that you share on your page. Is it too late? or should I wait until January to start one?
    Take care and God bless,
    Stacia

  14. Stacia! We'd love to have you along! Round up your friends and start a group and then send me an email with your city, state and the number in your group and I'll add you to the newsletter.

We will be taking a break mid December and starting up again in Mid January if you'd rather wait. It's up to you!

    Courtney

  17. Will you be doing another round of sign-ups? I'm planning on doing this sort of thing anyway, but to be part of a larger network would be wonderful as well. I just found out about this a few moments ago. Great idea! 😀

  18. Margo – yes, the end of this session will be April 15th – but you are welcome to join now mid-session! Just go to the message board and add your name, city and number of girls to the list!
