Good Morning Girls in Batavia, Illinois

Look at this beautiful group of Good Morning Girls from Batavia, Illinois!!! (If you haven’t been around my blog for a while the definition of a good morning girls group is: a group of girls who email each other every morning to say “Good Morning” – and report what they read during their quiet time in God’s word. It’s a tech accountability group.)I feel like I could slip right into this group and fit right in – I love you already and haven’t even met ya – okay – so I do know the girl front and center with the sign – that’s my Shasta!

Here’s what Shasta says about her group: Each of us have children and we all attend Grace Church of DuPage.
The names are as follows:
Front Row l-r: Lisa K. and Shasta N.
Back Row l-r: Wendy C., Kathy K., Janey G. and Ellie E.

Let me tell you about Shasta! My senior year of college at the Moody Bible Institute, I was given a required assignment to join the “Student Wives Fellowship” and attend their weekly meetings – it was so I could learn how to run a church women’s ministry. I was really excited until I walked into that room filled with married women (whose husband’s were studying to be pastors and missionaries) and there I sat nervously sticking out like a sore thumb – SINGLE!

Shasta was the first one to reach out to me and take me under her wing! It wasn’t long before my dorm mates were enjoying her too!!! We were home sick for home cooked food and in her hospitable ways she opened her apartment and she began to teach us…how to make homemade cinnamon rolls mmmmmm… This girl can cook! From there our friendship grew and she became a part of the “single” girls who dreamed of being married like her!

The rest is history – we have gone in and out of contact over the years – she has come to Ohio to visit me and I have been back to Chicago to visit her but years pass between each visit! To be honest I didn’t even know she was reading my blog until BAM into my inbox came the email that she had started a Good Morning Girls group – I was SOOO excited – that’s my Shasta!!!

So here’s a word of encouragement to my readers…if you see a new girl at church or in Bible study please BE a Shasta to that girl!! We’ve all been there – alone and uncomfortable. It’s hard when we have a “comfortable” circle of friends we enjoy – to be the one to reach out to the “alone” girl but Christ did not call us to a warm cozy life – he called us to a life of complete surrender to him. Let him use you in the life of someone else today – and who knows -God may bless you with a good friendship that lasts TWELVE + years later!

And to all the Good Morning Girls out there (there are 25 groups now!)- I’d love to post your picture if you happen to get together – send it my way along with a little paragraph about you!!
Hebrews 3:13 “But encourage one another DAILY, as longs as it is called Today, so that none of you may be hardened by sin’s deceitfulness.”

Walk with the King!
