A Fun Plan For Kids on St. Patrick’s Day
Last year we had some fun with St. Patrick’s Day. I have my coins in the cupboard ready to go again this year!
Last year my children woke to a pretend visit from Leprechaun’s!!!!
They left gold coins in their shoes and around the house!

These are naughty Leprechaun’s – they tipped over my picture frames on the way to the breakfast table! 
And they tipped the kid’s chairs at the table!
BUT they left a yummy breakfast!!!!!
Have a Happy St. Patrick’s Day and no, we aren’t Irish and we don’t really celebrate this holiday – I just felt like doing something fun and creative to make the kids smile on this day!
I told them the history of St. Patrick and the tradition of Leprechaun’s with a pot of gold at the end of the rainbow – I warned them that these “pretend” Leprechaun’s might visit while they were sleeping! My daughter said “I know it’s you mommy being the Leprechaun.” And I just smiled. Though I don’t wish to lie to her – I know her imagination is running wild! The giggles of glee in the morning will be worth the effort.
Psalm 127 says “Children are a reward from God.” Take the time today to enjoy your children. Take the time to be fun loving and creative. Go out of your way to make your children smile. Be sure they know they are special and loved.

What a great idea! Traditions like these are the ones that your children will always remember. I am sure they were very happy to see what little treasures were left for them.
It was a hit! The kids laughed so hard when they saw their chairs tipped and then found the gold coins everywhere! It was a happy morning! That’s the way I like to start a day – with smiley kids!

Also St. Patrick is a neat story of missionary perseverance.

That sounds like a lot of fun! Great imagination time! I may do a few of these for the kids!
You could also use this time to let them know that St. Patrick was the first missionary to take the word of Christ to Ireland and the many great things God did thru him and the journeys he endured.
I use green food coloring in my kids milk and make shamrock shaped pancakes. I also serve them green grapes and green apples. They love it! I never thought about serving Lucky Charms too! I use food coloring for every holiday. It is fun and the kids can't wait to see what color the food is dyed LOL!
How fun that the leprechauns were so silly at your house! We hosted neighborhood kids for "Leprechaun Lunch" one year with an all green menu (remember green ketchup?),the kids cut leprechaun ears for themselves from green paper, and we tie-dyed shirts with green dye. Some of the kids still have those shirts and they are teens now!

Courtney this is such a great idea…but I got to either find some sugar-free gold coins or substitute with some other idea…this is simply cute and would brighten up there day! Grace was diagnosed with Type 1 Diabetes the week before Thanksgiving this past yr and Holidays just have not been the same but we are learning not to make fodd and treats the focal point but it is very hard to do!!! Again…Love the idea!!!

I totally remember you doing this before and thought of it this year when I was at the store.I have my coins, green leprachan hat, and green light up necklace ready to go with her all green outfit. She's going to loove it! Thanks for the idea!

There are plastic coins out there. We use them instead in our house because we don't like what sugar does to our kiddos…and they are just fun to play with for months after the holiday…hope that helps!

My kids look forward to St. Patrick’s day as well, because they know that it’s the one time of the year I will buy Lucky Charms cereal for them! lol
Also, when ever it falls on a school day, they get a totally “green lunch”…green grapes, kiwi fruit, green salad wraps, cucumbers, green cool-aid jammers (also the only time of year I buy these!) and pistachio pudding.
I LOVE your idea of leaving a “Leprechan trail” of gold coins (rolos)… I will definitely add that this year! Thanks for sharing!
We do something similar here but I cut up shamrocks instead (4 kids hyped on sugar I may not survive) then I dye their breakfast green 🙂
