The Unveiling of The James Book Club

January 17th the James Book Club begins on my sister site GoodMorningGirls.org!

Angela and I have created a 3 month study plan that you can print out and slip into a 3 ring binder, notebook, Bible or post on your fridge! We will study 2 verses a day, 5 days a week. The study method is called SOAP. First, you write out the Scripture (by the end of 3 months you will have written out the entire book of James!), then you will write down your Observations, Applications, and Prayers. The assignment should take about 10 minutes a day. Here’s my James notebook!

Francis Chan says imagine you told your child – “Go clean your room. Then your child walked away and returned and said:

I memorized what you said…I can say it in Greek! In fact, some of my friends are going to come over tonight and do a little study on what it would look like for me to clean my room!”
That scenario is absurd! Yet it’s easy to slip into that habit with our quiet times.

This James study is all about taking God’s word and applying it to our daily lives. Every Monday on my sister site, Angela will open up the week with a reminder of your assignments and her thoughts. On Wednesdays it’s your day to leave feedback and interact and on Fridays, I will be wrapping up the week with my recap of the scriptures through the lens of a wife, mom and homemaker.
Here’s the details(and hopefully the answers to some of your questions):
Who: Anyone who is looking to go deeper in their study of God’s word. The method we will use is a method I began using in the 4th grade with my mother…so even your children could do this with you!
What: You will need a Bible, notebook and pen.

Where: The study outline is on my sister site GoodMorningGirls.org – (you do not have to be a good morning girl or have a group to participate!)
When: Begins January 17th and ends April 15th (this is a 3 month study, 5 days a week)
Why: Because studying God’s word will change the entire course of your life!!!

I am praying some of you will join me!!!
My heart’s passion is to journey together as we walk with the King of Kings in our daily lives as he transforms us into Godly woman.
So hop on over to Good Morning Girls and print out the James Book Club reading plan and join us January 17th!

Walk with the King!

  1. I will join in as well! I am at a point where I'm hungry for God's word. I belong to a Bible study that meets every other Monday and do women's nite at my church every Wednesday. I read from my Daily Bible as well as Our Daily Bread. I can't get enough! I love that you use what we call the SOAP method. It really helps dig deeper and really apply the Word to our lives. Thank you!

  2. Awesome!! A few of my sweet sisters and I have challenged each other to memorize the book of James in 2011. I am super excited about doing it. My kids have been doing it along side me which really touches my mommy heart.

  3. Courtney…I just love you!

I battle with studying the Bible due to having small kids (and with that comes mommy brain!). I kept asking God what He wants me to study for this new coming year and He seemed quiet…I thought I wasn't getting an answer. Well that was because every time I talked to God about it, my mind immediately went to your blog.

You are such an inspiration. My life right now is full of stress right now and you have a way of putting things in perspective that nothing else seems to.

So this year I'm taking off the year from trying to come up with studies and I will be doing whatever studies you create and all your challenges. I look forward to it!

  4. Woohooo!!! Doing cartwheels here with excitement that some of you are joining me!!! I can't wait for the 17th to get started!!!
    Much Love,
    Courtney

  5. I will be doing this with my new Good morning Girls! I started the bible in 90 days this year also and am using SOAP for that and love it:) So excited to get to know my group and grow in his word. I am in the homeschooling moms group, from all over the country!

  6. I will be joining you, I am very excited to get my boys involved as well! I can't wait to see what God has in store for my family as well as everyone else.
    Blessings 🙂

  8. I like the idea of the James notebook. I am memorizing the book of James this year with a few of my sweet sisters. God's Word is living and active – amen!

  9. Courtney this sounds wonderful! There is a little German (maybe European!) group forming at the moment but we were not sure if we can follow your bible study in English… Well – with that method we can do it in German!

  10. I heart the Book of James, it’s jarring, dangerous, brimming with bombshells.

Like a trickle of water eventually breaks through stone, God’s Grace has broken my stone heart, and created a new one, and is recreating it every morning. And the book of James has been a necessary source of water.

Godspeed to you and everyone who joins in as you study Courtney

  11. I can not wait to join. I attend Bible Study each week on Wednesday at my Church, but this is exactly what I've been looking for! Amazing how it came to me right when I needed it, this is part of my Spiritual Goals for 2011!

I've been trying to find some girls to participate in a GMG group with me, in my area, but it's just not happening for me. So this is one of the best things I could have read about!

    Thank you so much, Courtney!

  12. Courtney, I'd like to ask if I could have the original documents (not the .pdf's). I'd like to do this study, but I'd like to offer it to my GMG group in Vienna, Austria, where I lead a group in German. I'd like to translate your documents into German to encourage my participants to do.

  13. Katja, I saw that you commented, too…My husband came up with a translation of the SOAP method of Bible Study in German. I can send you the link/doc, if you'd like! 🙂

  14. Ay yay yay, I can't wait!!!
    Blessings,
    Toni
p.s. the really cool thing is that my kids are memorizing and studying the meaning of James this year in our homeschool.

  15. YAY! Can't wait to start. It's a book that the Lord has me reading now and I want to dig deeper in it and memorize it. God is soo good and knows exactly what we need. Thank you Courtney for your servants heart.

    God Bless you!

  16. I am so excited about this! It is one of my goals to study my Bible and not just read it this year, this is going to help get me going! Thank you so much!

  17. I might do this. My daughter and I were going to sit down and evaluate ourselves and make some goals for different areas of our lives, including what to do for our time in the Word. I was going to read the Bible in 90 days, but it got too overwhelming…so I will show this to my daughter and maybe we'll do it together! Thanks for making this available!

  18. I'm so excited about this study! I just entered a season where I am unable to continue attending my church's women's Bible study because of homeschooling two children. So this is just what I am needing right now to fill that spiritual hunger. Thanks Courtney, for your blog and all that you share.

  19. What a wonderful idea and way to read the bible and really learn from it. I always struggle on reading the bible on my own and I think this is going to work wonders. Thank you so much. Your mom is a very smart lady!

  20. I just met your blog a couple of days ago–how could you know my heart! {Smiling here…and giggling a little}

I took a Precepts class on James several years ago and wanted to study it again, but in a different–less intense way. Forgot all about the SOAP method.

Happy & excited to join you all!

  21. Courtney,

Count me in!! this looks wonderful after having "stumbled" upon your blog a little over a year ago & doing the Proverbs 31 study & the please your husband study and all the good blogs in between i now include you in my daily routine 🙂 i have grown so much and learned so many things but mostly been ENCOURAGED!! your blog has been like springs of cool living water to my soul– and your site always points me to the true living water Jesus!! just wanted to thank you a lot & hopefully encourage you a little i truly appreciate your time & attention to this website/blog whenever i am feeling down or lost or discouraged i can come here and find a friend!! and some day when we are walking the streets of gold i can hug you and thank you for helping me to walk with the King!
thanks again & looking forward to growing in 2011!
