Will You Pray For My Son and For Me?

Foot Xrays

Today’s Good Morning Girls reading is in Psalm 12.

But I wanted to share with you something I am facing in real life – so if you don’t mind, just for today, I will bypass our reading and share with you a prayer request.

My son has been suffering from pain in both of his feet for about 2 years.  He loves sports and I have shared some of the photos of him playing football, basketball and doing karate.  His pain has become debilitating at times – hence the feet in ice buckets after games.  I love seeing that smile – I’m so proud of how tough he has been through this difficulty.

Alex the price of winning

It started with Alex limping around the house in the morning (and sometimes sliding down the stairs on his bottom rather than walking down because of foot pain).  We took him to the Dr. and they gave us some braces and shoe inserts.  They have helped tremendously but the moment he takes them off to do barefoot activities (like swim or run around the house with the puppy) within about 20 minutes of high activity – he experiences pain.

After multiple Dr. visits and getting a second opinion – he is scheduled to have corrective foot surgery Friday morning on one foot (and then later in the spring on the other foot). This will entail a cutting of the bone, a bone graph and metal implant.

And mama and son are just a wee bit nervous about all of this.

I pray that this relieves his pain and that after a week or two of bed rest, a month of a cast, and a few weeks in a walking boot – he’ll be up and running with no more pain!!!

That’s my prayer.  Will you pray this all goes well with no complications please?

And if you happen to have had a surgery like this or been through this with your children – and have any words of wisdom or comfort – I’m all ears.   I’m holding it together well for my son but inside I have butterflies.

Thank you for your prayers!!!!!  I have the best readers in the world and appreciate it!

Walk with the King,

Courtney

Since I am not able to write on Psalms today – I really hope you will hop around and read what the other women have been writing this week!

  1. I wish I had some comforting words to offer but instead I WILL be praying for you! I have NO idea what it’s like to watch your child go through something like that. I pray that this will eliminate his pain!

  2. It is so hard to see our children in pain and very scary to watch them go through surgery. I’ll be praying for you both. Isaiah 41:14

  3. courtney,
My momma heart aches for you, your son, and family. It’s always hard when our babies area hurting (no matter the cause). You will all be in my thoughts and prayers.

  4. {{{hugs}}} and of course praying. Watching our children suffer is a heavy burden on a mama’s heart.

    Dear Heavenly Father,
We look up to you and ask Your loving arms to wrap around everyone involved in this upcoming surgery to have peace. Guide the surgeon’s hands, cover them with a compassionate nursing staff, and give them comfort in the healing days ahead. We give You praise for the plan You already have laid out in the days ahead and thank You for Your amazing wisdom. ~amen

  5. Praying for you and your son, for a successful procedure, quick healing and peace to take place of any anxiety. God’s got this. 🙂

  6. I’m praying for both of you. My 16 year old son didn’t have exactly the same thing done, but he had to have two foot/leg surgeries last summer. His first one was at the beginning of June, and by the time school started in September he was running around fairly normally, feeling great.

  7. I will be praying that God eases your worries and that your sons surgery goes even better than planned!! “Worry ends where faith begins” and all your readers know how very very strong your faith is!!

  8. Oh Courtney! I just went through this several months ago. My feet hurt so badly I couldn’t walk on them. My feet have been hurting off and on for many years but this was SO severe {burning pain} that I couldn’t even walk. I had my feet in ice buckets all the time but it didn’t help. Then I remembered my Trigger point therapy book which cured my frozen shoulder years ago and read up on foot pain. Most of the pain, I figured out, was from calve muscles. I began pushing on muscles in my calves and they were SO painful. I did trigger point therapy on them {which is very easy} and within a week or so I was SO much better. I would encourage to get the book first and read it before surgery. Push in the muscles in his calves and see if they hurt. Muscles that are tight and hurt radiate down to the feet. Here is the link to the book ~ http://www.amazon.com/Trigger-Point-Therapy-Workbook-Self-Treatment/dp/1608824942/ref=sr_1_1?s=books&ie=UTF8&qid=1417746868&sr=1-1&keywords=trigger+point+therapy

  9. Courtney
I have had the surgery on both feet. Not pulling any punches it’s painful. Keep up on the pain med schedule. Actually give it about 15 minutes before is due so it overlaps. The first time he walks on it will be weird, after no weight bearing on it the sensation tingles up the foot into the leg. But it gets better and worth it in the end. I pray for peace for you, confidence in the doctors and calmness and quick revovery for your son.
Also if he’s never been under anesthesia ask for them to give him stuff to help with nauseous before he wakes up. It makes a difference.

  10. Thank you for sharing your life prayer request. My son who is 11 and in some of the similar sports is experiencing the same kind of pain and we have done ice buckets as well. I will talk to his Dr. regarding the options. Glad to know there is an option to alleviate the pain. Thank you again for sharing.

  11. My friend’s daughter went through this surgery on both feet when she was 10 or 11. She is now a Jr in HS and runs for the Cross Country and Track teams. Your son will need to take a break from sports, but then should be able to participate fully and without pain.

  12. Hope that your son feels better soon! Thinking about him and sending positive thoughts and prayers your way..from one Polar Bear Mama to another. 🙂

  13. Sending you a virtual hug and putting you down in my prayer journal. Can’t wait to see how God works in all this – keep your eyes out for all the little gifts along the way and never stop believing God to be BIG and act BIG and wow us BIG. No eye has seen what He has in store for those who love and seek Him!!

  14. Our Heavenly Father, I pray you will be with Courtney & Alex and the rest of the family. Please wrap Your arms around them, Lord. I pray they will all feel Your love, Your comfort, and Your peace. I pray the surgery will be a success and that this will heal the pain in his feet. Lord, I pray there will be no complications and that Alex will heal quickly. Amen.

Courtney, thank you so much for sharing this prayer request with your readers. I will continue to pray for you all tomorrow. Please keep us updated.

  15. I am not sure if it is the same type of surgery I had but I did have foot surgery as a teen. They had to graft the ball joint of both, break the bone from ankle to big toe pin it and remove the overgrown tendon between the toe and the next toe. They did both feet at the same time because of our medical insurance at the time. It was painful and it was hard for the first week but it was worth it. The foot pain was gone after I healed from surgery! The only words of wisdom I have is do NOT let the pain medication wear off, and ask for an anti nausea medicine just in case he gets sick from the pain medication.. Better to have and not need than need and not have. You do not want him throwing up the pain medication and being in unnecessary pain (that’s what happen to me) .. Praying for a speedy recovery and calm momma!

  16. My daughter had very simular surgeries when she was 8. He will be in a lot of pain to begin with. Waen him off the hard or strong pain meds as soon as he can handle alternating tylenol or advil. Of course check the doctors. Don’t let the pain meds run out ! Also pick a good long book series and read read read….. and movies movies movies. Distract him from the pain. Cuddle and love him. The worst of it is the first week or two. We read ever book Laura Ingles ever wrote including all cooking and craft books. But of course I am sure he might like something else. Good luck to you both!!!

  17. Two and a half years ago my then 4 1/2 year old daughter had corrective hip surgery. She was born with hip dysplasia that was undiagnosed for 14 months. In 3 years she had 3 different body casts. I have carried my baby into the OR 6 times and I’m sorry, but it’s always the most painful thing to do. You just have to put your child in the hands of God and rely on your faith to keep you together. I always made the Dr’s wait while I prayed over her. I will keep you both in my prayers!

  18. Courtney,
I am praying for you and Alex. I just wanted to let you know that you both are in the hands of God, and that His love for you will bring peace and healing in your lives. Be strong. God bless you both!

  19. Courtney ~ I’m so glad you are getting some answers after 2 years. I will definitely be praying for your son and for you as you encourage him before and take care of him after the surgery. I know you love your boy, but God loves him more! ~Lisa Appelo

  20. I haven’t had a child that had that particular surgery but of my four children I’ve had one that had open heart surgery at 2 days old, one that had multiple surgeries including, throat surgery on both knees and the other two had various surgeries including a multiple broken arm. It is very scary for a mom especially because she not only is concerned for her child but doesn’t want to see them in pain but she also has to stay strong for her child and her other children. Please know that you and your son are lifted in prayer as well as the doctors and nurses in taking care of your child.

  21. Courtney, I have prayed for you and your son. I want to thank you for being apart of my life. May God send his Angels to protect your son and to give you comfort.

  22. It shall all go well in the name of Jesus foe no good shall He withhold from those that love Him.Proverbs 3:8 NLT

……Then you will have healing for your body and strength for your bones.

    Amen

  23. I’ll be praying for both you and your son. My dad had a kidney transplant 3 weeks ago and I almost wonder if during the surgery it wasn’t harder on us than on him. Granted, he’s the one that has been recovering since, but those hours of us waiting were a challenge. What got me through was my dear friends praying with me and for me. And though we don’t know each other, you have my prayers non-stop until I hear those boots come off and those feet no longer hurt. God’s eye is on the sparrow and I know he watches….you and your dear son. Sorry if that’s corny, I just know that when I have songs to sing to myself when I’m nervous or scared it helps<3

  24. Praying this helps him out, an easy surgery, and a quick recovery. Also praying for you to feel a bit of ease knowing this will help your son experience life with little to no more pain.

  25. Praying for you and your son.May God strengthen you and give Alex a record breaking healing / testimony. Remain blessed.

  26. Oh Courtney,
I am joining you in prayer…for courage for Alex and peace for you. I also pray that his surgeon is getting a restful night’s sleep and has a clear mind and skillful hand tomorrow. I pray for a speedy recovery with minimal pain, resulting in painless youthful activities sooner rather than later. I pray for patience for both of you during this time of keeping a young boy down 🙂 I pray that this experience will draw you both closer to our Heavenly Father, comforter, healer, and provider. And I pray that perhaps this all goes so well that it will be more exciting than scary to have the second foot done in the spring. I will of course add Keith, Alexis, and the many other concerned family members to this last!

I have not gone through anything like this with my children, but it definitely brings back a childhood memory! A close family friend was born with club feet. He had a few surgeries during childhood, but the last was when he was about 6, my brother 7, and I 9. He was in casts up to mid-thigh on both legs. I know it wasn’t all fun for sure, but we spent a lot of time at their house that winter playing board games and cards and watching movies. It was the early 80’s…we were his entertainment 🙂 So I pray that in 30 years your family will have some happy memories to share of this time together.

One more thing…I was about Alex’s age when I had my tonsils out. I wrote Deuteronomy 31:6 on a paper to take to surgery with me. “Be strong and courageous. Do not be afraid or terrified because of them, for the Lord your God goes with you; He will never leave you or forsake you.”

  27. Courtney…I have no words. I can only imagine what you are going through! Joining my prayers with all these other lovely ladies as we storm heaven for you, Alex and the rest of the family.

Sending you virtual hugs! God be with you all.

  28. I most certainly will pray for you and your son I know what he is going through but the pain sounds much worse. I have severe plantar fasciitis and have dealt with it for many many years. Wearing my tennis shoes all the time gives me relief but wearing flip-flops or being barefoot all day or even half a day causes severe pain in the evening and restless legs. My son at seven years old was having problems for about 2 to 3 years. In the middle of the night crying & screaming in pain his feet and his legs hurt he also is experiencing planter fasciitis & received heal inserts. Right now we just have to make sure he wears good tennis shoes doctor says when he does sports we will then have to see if he will always need to have his feet wrapped or have better inserts. We are both flat-footed (have duck feet). I really hope this surgery will be a huge blessing and give him a lot of relief.

  29. Let’s pray! Lord Jesus straighten and align each bone in his feet Lord I pray that you would strengthen him in every step Lord . No more pain In your name Lord I pray that he would feel the holy sprit touch him daily amen.

  30. Dear Courtney, it’s a pleasure to pray for you and Alex today. Thank you for asking. Thank you for all you have given us all. May God’s peace flood your heart and mind as you remember all his promises and you support Alex through his surgery and recovery xxxx

  31. Courtney, I hope this helps. Someone said recently that we should pray the solution not the problem. In other words, thank God now for successful, uncomplicated surgery on Alex’s foot. Thank him for a pain free, swift recovery that will blow everyone away and give your son an amazing testimony!
Do not let your heart be troubled.

  32. My brother had foot surgery when he was in junior high. He had bones fused together and was in a wheel chair and crutches for months after. Just something to be aware of: use of pain medication afterward. I know a lot of medicines out there are addictive and also because of having to take them frequently for pain there is the aspect of drowsiness. You may also see some moodiness out of him through all of this. It may already be on your radar, but just be prayerful and watchful over those things. I saw a change in my brother and I also experienced changes personally after having surgery. Being young, he will be more susceptible to medication and mood changes because of it.

  33. Praying for you both, for today and the weeks/months to come. One of our children has needed quite a bit of surgery so we know those nervous butterflies … we’re all praying for you.

  34. I have no words of wisdom but I do understand debilitating foot pain. How wonderful that despite the pain your young man has pushed through and continued with his sports – that fighting attitude will pull him through recovery and see him back on the sports field in good health.
    Praying for you both x

  35. Blessed to pray for you and Alex today! My son had surgery to remove a benign tumor on his arm when he was five, and him coming out from under anesthesia was quite an experience! He was NOT happy to wake up with a cast, but he healed completely with only a scar to remind us of that scary situation. God is so good!

I echo what these other sweet women have said: Keep up on the pain meds. If you get behind on the meds, it becomes very difficult to get ahead of the pain again.

Believing God for a successful surgery, swift healing, and peace for Momma and the rest of the family!!

  36. Praying for speedy and full healing for your son, and for peace in your heart throughout the surgeries and recovery!

  37. Hi Coutrney!
I had similar surgery when I was 12 years old. My left foot was in constant pain. I’m 42 now and doing fine! I’m so thankful I had the surgery and can’t imagine what my life would have been like without it. God has chosen this path for your son for a reason. He will help both of you to walk it. Thanks for sharing your request with us. I’m praying for you both!

  38. Hi Courtney,

Sending you good thoughts from down here in Sydney. I hope Alex feels better after his operation and I wish you and your family all the best for the future.

    God Bless!

    -Sam

  39. Thank you for the invitation to join you and your friends in prayer for your son’s successful surgery and full healing & recovery. This mother’s heart is with you pleading mercy and grace at the throne.

  40. But all will be well for those who are godly. Isaiah 2:10
Blessed are those who wait for Him to help them. Isaiah 30:18

    Buenos Dias, Courtney!!!
I am praying for you, your son and your family! I pray that the Holy Spirit fills you with peace as you go through this journey which has a purpose for your son and all of the family. And also that the Spirit of Lord guides every doctor and nurse who is taking care of your son!!!
God is faithful and “maravilloso” (wonderful)!!!!
    🙂

  41. Courtney,
I want to thank you for being such an example of a Godly mother, wife and woman. Please know that I will be praying for a successful surgery for your son and a quick recovery. I have four children of my own so I know how difficult it will be for him to “be still,” especially during the holidays. I will be praying for comfort and peace for your whole family.

  42. I have a son who was born at 28 weeks. Years and 18 surgeries later he is pain free, happy and healthy. God has it all figured out for you and your and son and He will bring you through this. As I recall there were a few days that I sat scared and worried so I pray with you and for you as so many did for me and my son. Today I praise God for that amazing gift and lessons we learned along the way. Covering you, your son, family and the doctor’s in our prayers. Jer 29:11

  43. Courtney,
Lifting you and your little guy in prayer for complete healing and restoration quickly and complication free! Look to Jesus, Jehovah Rapha, Our Healer! Trust me, I have had many opportunities to know Him as Healer and He is what His Word says He is! Peace to you and your family.

  44. Two of mine have had surgery, one had 2 eye surgeries and also tubes in ears. The other had tubes in ears and adenoids removed. Mild in comparison to your son, but the are my babies, so I can empathize with your anxiety. I pray that the surgery goes well and recovery is swift with minimal pain, and that the Lord will wrap his arms around your family in comfort.

  45. Oh so tough! I will pray for you right now. I haven’t been through it with my children, although my young son is concerning because he is 5 and already talks about his feet hurting, but I’ve been through it with my husband. And I have seen how bad my father-in-law’s feet are. I feel like with my husband the feet bones are part of the problem, so I sent him to a chiropractor that does feet. That did help him. But we’ve done braces, surgery, inserts, the works! It’s like you have to try one million things, and they keep trying more things! I pray this will work for you. We have had success in using essential oils to help with the pain because I was concerned about all the pain meds. You can use them with pain meds. If you have oils, try them. We use Deep Blue mostly for pain. You can email me if you have a question about it at unccarol@aol.com. What a sweet spirit your son seems to have through all this!

  46. praying….here is a chapter the LORD gave me this week as i was waiting for my son to finish his CT scan…praise God it was nothing serious, but i thought of it right away when i saw your blog title..I know He meant it for you too….praising Him that His Word goes forth and He will meet all your needs according to His glorious riches!!!!
Psalm 65:5 By awesome deeds you answer us with righteousness,
    O God of our salvation,
the hope of all the ends of the earth
    and of the farthest seas;
6 the one who by his strength established the mountains,
    being girded with might;
7 who stills the roaring of the seas,
    the roaring of their waves,
    the tumult of the peoples,
8 so that those who dwell at the ends of the earth are in awe at your signs.
You make the going out of the morning and the evening to shout for joy.

  47. Praying for him….I understand his pain. For about a year my feet hurt intensely, especially when I would get out of bed and anytime I would try to exercise. And it would sometimes last through out the day. I started doing some research on inflammation in the body and have since changed my diet. No more coffee, wheat or other foods that can trigger inflammation. No more pain 🙂

  48. Courtney, I work with someone whose daughter had the exact same surgery! On both feet at the same time too. She was back to her normal activities (walking and sports) in no time and has never looked back. God Bless you and your son!

  49. This past October our family celebrated the one year anniversary of our 10 year old’s son surgery. He had struggled his whole life with not being able to breathe; he would run and have to stop to catch his breath, while swimming he would get out after just a few minutes feeling like he was drowning. We knew he would need surgery one day. But the struggles were intensifying and starting to affect his life too much. After talking with his dr. we went to see a specialist that we thought wouldn’t suggest surgery yet; but instead we were told the opposite – the only way he would feel improvement was with major chest surgery followed by a week in the children’s hospital, 2 month recovery and having a steel bar in his chest for the next three years at which point we would have surgery again to remove the bar.
The tears were uncontrollable. He was devastated and felt like God had not heard him. Through the weekend we talked and prayed. My mighty man of God son made the mature decision to have the surgery as soon as possible (within 2 weeks of finding out) and starting the process so that he could get on with life the way God had intended. It was scary for all of us – mom, dad, son, and siblings; we allowed everyone to talk when the needed to talk and we always came back to truth in Scripture. We prayed a lot. We tried to be strong leading up and in the week following to help him be stronger – our nervousness seemed to scare him more than the surgery. Now, a year later he’s even more amazing and more able. God is writing his testimony to be exactly what He needs it to be for His glory.
We always reminded our son, every test becomes part of our testimony.
I will being praying for you and your son and your family during this season of testing and testimony writing.

  50. hey courtney! I will keep you both in my thoughts and prayers! But as a side note I just wanted to tell you that I work for a podiatric surgeon and the children we do surgery on bounce back so fast you wouldn’t even know they have had surgery. Kids heal so quickly, and as long as he follows all directions given it should heal back just fine. Be sure to get him some thing to keep him occupied so he doesn’t get bored. I hear that from a lot of Mommas, that the kids get bored very easy. Good Luck through surgery and your healing time.

  51. I have been there Courtney regarding surgery. My daughter 6 years ago, who is a professional dancer in Houston, hurt her ankle dancing and had to have ankle surgery to repair it. We thought she would never dance again like she had before, BUT GOD….gave her the best of the best surgeons who was a Christian and even prayed before the surgery with her. Yes she was in a boot and couldn’t dance for a while. BUT GOD…put her in a different dance company when it was time to dance again and she is still dancing to this day. I felt your heart cry as I read this. When this happened, I had to reign in my imagination, my assumptions, my crazy thoughts, my fears. I spoke the Word of God over my daughter and left my expectations behind and focused on God’s expectations, which are higher and better anyway. God will take care of your son and He will take care of you too. Don’t be in a rush. Through the healing process of his feet, God is still working. I find He worked more in my heart than anything else saying “trust me.” I know He worked tremendously in my daughter through her healing time and not being able to use her gift of dance. It had been her life. She laid it all down and her priorities were changed.

  52. Hang in there! I know how hard this is but kids are amazing in the way they are able to bounce back from these things. My son was born with clubfeet and we endured the casts on both feet from 2 days old until he was 10 months old and then the doctor decided we needed to do surgery. He had surgery on both feet and did amazing. Fast forward 10 years when at 11 years old my son had a dirt bike accident and damaged a toe. When I say damaged I mean almost cut it off. The doctor tried to reattach it so we brought him home with a pin sticking out of the end of his toe and him in a wheelchair. We tried that for two weeks when it was decided the toe would have to come off. So back to surgery and then the recovery. It was definitely a trying time but we made it through. My son is so brave and so strong. I am so proud of him. Your son sounds like a tough little boy so I bet he will handle this very well and so will his mom. Hope it all goes well.

  53. I have a friend who has had a few surgeries on her feet before I met her. The souls of her feet were slowly rotating to be on the top of her feet, I have no idea why or how that is possible but that is how she described it, she does wear a leather support now but plays soccer and some other sports recreationally now years later.
Have you considered a chiropractor? I don’t want to give unsolicited advice but I have cysts in my wrists that prevent me from bending my wrists all the way or supporting my own weight on them. I asked a chiropractor once and he said I should see a doctor. Well I did, they drained the cyst and it immediately came back. I was so discouraged. Then a few months later in a different state I was in a car accident and decided to go to a chiropractor, this one actually had special training in adjusting feet and hands! He has been adjusting my elbows and wrists and praise God one of them is back to being able to bend the way it should! The pain isn’t entirely gone yet but it is getting so much better! And the other wrist, I will be honest still feels the same, but I have hope that like the first one this one too will get in line and I won’t have to have these nasty cysts giving me pain all the time.
If you can find a chiropractor with special training in feet, I would try it… it at least doesn’t hurt to try and who knows maybe they will help you and your son avoid surgery. If not, well God truly is with us in every situation and will work it all out for good.
I will be praying for you and your son. I understand watching a child suffer while you stand by helpless to fix the problem. My daughter has eczema and her scratching makes this mama want to cry.
We are all in this together sister!

  54. Dear sweet friend and sister in Christ,
My heart felt prayers are with you and your family. I pray for comfort and healing. I pray you feel Gods embrace during the days ahead. Sounds like you need to create an activity box, stock it with puzzles, games, notebooks to write in, coloring books ( even I love to color at 54 when I am bed ridden

  55. My daughter has had 2 brain surgeries, at age 3 and again at 8. It is simply not easy as a mother to let go and leave your child in someone else’s hands.
My 2 best pieces of advice are-
1.) Let yourself cry if you need to, in private. That kind of stress release is good for you, and holding it in will only make you feel miserable. (I never cried in front of my daughter, not wanting her to feel scared, but my mom and husband both got to see some tears, and it always helped me.)
2.) Remind yourself and your husband to turn together, not away, from each other. This sounds so simple, but during stress and hard times, it is easy to forget. My husband and I did it both ways, and we much prefer the “together” route! 😉
Sending love and prayers your way!

  56. Heavenly Father, thank You for Your love for us and the way You bring us into each other’s lives. Today I ask that You would bring the peace that passes understanding into the hearts and lives of this family. Living with pain is difficult, at best, for adults; but for this young man, I’m sure it is even more difficult. Thank You that we live in a time when knowledge flourishes and that there are people who have availed themselves of learning all they can to be of aid to others! I ask that Your wisdom would fill the surgeons and care staff so that the procedure will have the best results available so he will be able to grow healthy and strong and relieved of his pain. I ask that You would miraculously heal him so that people know that it is You Who did the greatest work in his life. Strengthen each one of this family so that they may testify of Your abounding grace in the procedure and the healing process I ask in the Name of our Savior and Lord, Jesus Christ, Amen! <3

  57. Hey Courtney, I’m not just coming by to tell you I’m praying, but to share what the Lord has put in front of me during a recent medical trial with myself. God has been teaching me I don’t have to “hold it together”. As a single parent I’ve realized I will cry and so will other people around my son, this trial has made emotions real for us both. He has seen me at some low points and now when I cry it’s not scary but real. I’m praying that he understands there are different kinds of tears and how to ask instead of assume the negative. Just the other day God showed him his heart for him and every time since then he’s been almost in ” Happy tears,” as he calls them, when he talks about what the Lord showed him. I’m praying for an openness of the emotions between your family. That God would flood you with understanding, relief- peace and clarity. I know he is good & for us and in that think of the compassion in character that he’s building in this trial. I’m grateful for your willingness to share!

  58. Sweet Courtney-
I am praying with you and for you! Seeing your baby hurt or have fear is terrible. Praying for Alex, for the medical team, for your family and for PEACE to come to all of you. I love you- a reader you have never met- but I love you through our Father and our Sisterhood in HIM!
    XO- Jessica

  59. Praying for you and your son for strength and courage, full recovery. It’s tough watching our children suffer. I have been thru two major illnesses and 2 major surgeries with 2 of my sons. Praying is the answer.

  60. Father, I come before you not for myself but a little boy named Alex. I ask for wisdom on both the doctors, parents and this child. I ask for a smooth operation with no hiccups or complications. For fast healing. Alex sure does love life, Father. Heal him so he can get back to it. I ask for a calmness to come over his momma, Courtney. I am sure she has some apprehensions. This is her baby. But he is your child first. I thank you Father for all you do and going to do. In your precious Son’s names Sweet Jesus. amen

  61. Hello Courtney,
I will be praying for you and your son. We have a loving Father that hears our requests; and
we put your son and you before our Lord right now. We thank you Jesus.
I appreciate your blog daily. Blessings, Nancy

  62. Would you mind sharing what the diagnosis was, and did you go to a Podiatrist? My son is having similar types of pains. He complains about his feet hurting a lot, but especially after playing soccer or running around a lot. His Pediatrician sort of blew it off as growing pains, but I think there is more to it than that. I’m looking for answers. So sorry your son is going through this. God will take care of him. 🙂

  63. Courtney, I will be praying for you. In Aug of 2011 our oldest son underwent major spinal fusion surgery in which rods were placed in his back to correct a severe kyphosis. It was a MAJOR ordeal and very frightening to go through. PRAY, stay in God’s word. Find the scriptures that comfort your soul and memorize and meditate on those. Be there for your son. Pray during his pain and difficulties openly with him. All these things helped us through. It was hard. I’m not going to deny it. It broke my heart and brought me to tears to see him in excruciating pain. However, watching God answer our prayers over little hurdles helped all of us strengthen our faith. Allow others to help – physically, emotionally, mentally, and spiritually. You’ll need it as your energy will be zapped from caring for your son in all those above mentioned ways. REST! Both of you. Whenever you can. Blessings to you during this challenging time. I will be lifting you up in prayer.

  64. Lay your hands on your son’s feet and challenge the enemy – this same feet will carry the gospel to the ends of the earth. This same feet is beautiful in His sight. Listen to Mandisa’s Overcomer. You are an overcomer. A mother’s prayer is so precious and so valuable in His sight. Waiting to hear the praise report for His glory. This is the promise I am clinging on to you and your son.
Isa 8:18 Here am I and the children whom the Lord has given me!
We are for signs and wonders in Israel
    From the Lord of hosts,
    Who dwells in Mount Zion

  65. oh Courtney a mothers love runs so deep! I love that you felt comfortable posting this prayer for your son (and you!) so many times we hide that pain, but knowing there are others out there, so many in the same shoes is very reassuring! One of my sons good friends had this same surgery this summer and was back on the field quicker than my own son who had pins put in his toe for falling off his top bunk and shattering his toe!
Young and resilient, with a passion for sports that he loves- he’ll be back in no time. I pray for swift and capable hands of the doctors, a fighting spirit for you son and peace in moms heart. God bless you, Courtney!

  66. Hi Courtney, thanks for asking everyone to pray about your little boy.
This is never an easy situation to be in, for child or parents.
I have been praying for all to go well this morning with the operation, and that God will keep yourself and Alex and the rest of the family strong through the recovery and rest period.
I pray for a complete healing of both feet with no more pain or setbacks. God has got this in His Almighty Hands. Our trust and our hope is in Him!

  67. I will pray. I have an Alex, too – and he’s always been tough as nails as well. He’s 30 years old now, and still tough! God will lead you and your Alex through this.

  68. Absolutely we will pray for you! I hope the surgery goes well and that you can remain calm and strong for your son.

My little boy had to have surgery at 8 months old and I was a wreck. It was a simple surgery (he was in the OR for only about 20 minutes), but I couldn’t stop crying…my husband had to take him back to the OR because I was afraid that my crying would scare the baby. He came out just fine, and has had no problems since. 🙂

  69. Praying for you and your son and the whole family. Also praying for his Doctors and nurses and anyone involved with his care. May God show you many blessings over the next year.

  70. Courtney, we took a little Blogging Through the Bible break, but I came by today to get caught up and get ready to get back into it. I will be praying for you and your son.

Sometimes I interact with so many other bloggers and people online and offer to pray for them – It can be so easy to have good intentions to pray for someone and then forget. One trick I settled on to help me remember is using my email as reminders. I make sure to stay subscribed to online blogs and ministries that have personally ministered to me (like WLW) and then every time I receive a subscriber email or newsletter – I am reminded to pray for that person/ministry, before I even open the email. So be encouraged that every time you send out an email – you ARE being prayed for.

  71. I love what Shirley said in her comment; and I will do the same. Each blog that ministers to me as WLW does, I will say a prayer every time I receive an email.

Courtney you are such a blessing to me. I will continue to lift both your son & his sweet momma up in prayer. I can’t wait to hear the Praise Report!!!! Be blessed!

    ~Lakeisha

  72. My eyes welled up, yes, I’ll be praying for you and your precious son. May you find comfort in God’s healing hands, Courtney. I’m thankful that it is something that can be corrected through surgery… Our Father is with you through all that you are going through, trust in Him. Take care, too.

  73. Courtney, I’ve had three reconstructive ankle surgeries in three years (every summer of college!) and I’ve learned a few tips and tricks. Buy a waterproof cast cover from Amazon, it’s so much easier than a trash bag, etc. Also, go to a medical supply store and buy a stool for him to shower with. One of the things that felt the best to me between the pain and the icky feelings from the cast was taking a long shower every day and feeling CLEAN! I know this time can be so hard on him but also hard on your family. I’ll be praying for all of you.

  74. Hi Courtney,
I pray that his doctor is very skilled and has successfully done a numberof these surgeries and most importantly is a praying man of God who goes into surgery covered in prayer. And if your son does have a complication to any prescription let the doctor know so he can prescribe an alternative one that is not as severe.
    God bless,
    Rosalyn

  75. Dear Courtney,
I will pray for your son and his feet. My 11-year-old son is experiencing right knee pain that has been going on for a few weeks, along with itching and other weird things. Anyway, I will think of your son when I pray for mine. Boys are certainly precious things.

  76. Courtney,
It so great to know that God is always working things out for our good, even when we can’t see it. That’s just the kind of God we serve.
I am so glad that you got a second opinion. Now you know what to expect. You all will surely be in my prayers. I hope and pray for a speedy recovery and strength for you do endure.

May God keep you in His perfect peace.

  77. Praying. I know how hard it is when your children need surgery. Mine did not have foot surgery, but other problems. They are all in their 20’s now and doing well. May God give you and your son his peace.

  78. I am praying for Alex that the surgery is a success and will no longer be in pain. Praying for your family to get through this.

  79. I love that you have such wonderful readers and an international prayer chain uplifting your family to His throne room.
    God bless -x-

  80. Courtney, I trust that your son came through the surgery very well and that he will have a successful healing time. Also, I pray for him to have patience to let his foot heal really good before he continues his sports activities. It is so hard to wait as a young person especially when he begins feeling well. As an adult it is equally hard. Just get his books out, the board games, good Christmas movies, popcorn, hot cocoa, Christmas cookies and build a big fire!! It sounds like it could be a party! I will continue to lift you all up to our Heavenly Father and pray for His Presence and His love to surround you all! In His love, Denise xoxoxo. P.S. I love your writings Courtney and I am so thankful that you are allowing Him to work in and through you at such early age! You bless my heart!

  81. Courtney
Ill definitely pray for your son ( hugs)
Would you please pray for my 13 year old son Brandon as well ? <3
    Lisa

  82. Hi,
First of all, I will be praying for your son, your family, and for the doctors who will be dealing with your precious son. I have a few questions: Why does he have his feet in ice buckets?, Do his feet turn red like a bad sunburn?, Do they get swollen, does his feet ever have a waxy appearance to them?, Does he complain with pain when he walks, stands still for awhile, or on his feet for a little time? Do the soles of his feet burn? Does he ever say he feels like lots of ants are biting his feet? I also went through this, saw numerous doctors, had countless tests and was told I had tarsal tunnel syndrome in both of my feet. I needed to have surgery on one foot and then in a few weeks they would do the other foot. I went through the first surgery and was told not to put any weight on my foot for 3 weeks. The recovery was horrendous. My foot stayed swollen and red just as before they had operated. I kept asking the doctor if it was normal for my foot to be so red and swollen and he said yes, that is a normal part of recovering. It would not let up so I took pictures of my foot to my next visit (most of the redness and swelling would occur in the afternoon and night so the doctor never got to see my foot when it was at its worst) and I showed him the pictures and he said “oh no, this is not normal, you have something else going on here”. I had to go back to more doctors, get more tests and I found out I have a very rare disease called Erythromelalgia. I really did not need to have the foot surgery and the reason the recovery was so horrendous was because I had erythromelalgia and that was the worst thing to do. You will have to read up on erythromelalgia to understand. Anyway, my point is if your precious little son has had any of the symptoms of erythromelalgia you may want to bring it up to your doctor. You can look erythromelalgia up on Wikipedia or on Google. There is also a website called living with erythromelalgia. Some people that have erythromelalgia put their feet in ice because it helps with the burning, but that is the worst thing to do because it can cause your feet to become ulcerated. I would hate to see your son go through what I went through so I wanted share my story just in case it could help. There are lots of doctors who don’t even know what erythromelalgia is, but believe it or not, my dermatologist is the one who diagnosed mine. Please know there are many people out here praying and keeping you all in our thoughts and prayers. If I can help you out by answering any questions or anything else I would be happy to. Hang in there and give that sweet son of yours a big hug!!!

  83. Hi Courtney, I will indeed pray for your darling son and of course for you and your family. God is in control and He will do the best for Alex. Hugs xx

  84. Praying surgery went well and that once the recovery pain is gone that your son will be pain free in this foot. Praying also that you are getting some rest.

  85. “It is no secret what God can do, what He’s done for others, He’ll do for you.” Prayers for Alex and for you and the whole family. May God give you lots of strength and patience to take care of Alex. It is just a passing phase. God willing, within no time, he will be fit as a fiddle:-)

  86. My son had a car accident and the car drove over his leg. He had about 3 surgeries and all he remembers of it is how God kept Him. He now look at his scar proudly. So my prayer is of thanks giving for God making away to correct , for all the support you and your family will begetting in what ever form your need. For each doctor that will be working on him be blessed and their hands covered under the blood of Jesus. that after the operations there will be no pain of any sort but complete healing for our God does a complete work. Praise God for a mom her son and her family that is prayed through. That God has place in you all the tools you will need to not just handle but really do it with ease calmness and by the guidance of the Holy Spirit. Amen. Your God has gone before you and prepared everything .

  87. Relax God is in control. My 10 months old baby boy went through a similar surgery four years ago. both legs are now okay. God will see you through.

  88. Unbelievable!, Will be praying. When my boys were growing up (1 is 36 1 is 25) they went through similiar problems . My 25 year old would also crawl through the house to keep from walking or standing due to foot pain. The Pediatric Orthopedic I took them to said there was no evidence of malformation but that it was what the old folks called growing pains. Due to the rapid bone growth of pre puberty. Needless to say they both ‘grew’ through this without surgery. We dont think about it but really, consider the growth of a foot from birth to adult-hood 0-o. So in reality why wouldnt it hurt? The Dr. also said that girls experience this less because they grow at a more consistant rate rather then spurts.
