4 Ways to Win the Battle for Your Desires {Delight in the Lord: Week 3}

Do not be anxious about anything, but in every situation,
by prayer and petition, with thanksgiving,
present your requests to God.
Philippians 4:6

Welcome back to Week 3 of the Making Your Home a Haven Bible Study!  This week’s spiritual focus is the battle for your Desires.

Week 3 – Desires

We all have two worlds to balance, our outer world and our inner world.  The outer world throws a lot our way, with high highs and low lows.  One day our dreams may be coming true and the next, we could be facing our worst nightmare.  God wants us to experience peace and joy in our lives no matter what our circumstances are. In difficult times, if we hold tightly to the wrong things, our inner world will become anxious and fearful.

We were made to be connected to God.  Our soul needs to be anchored to Christ but sin in our lives leads to a disconnect.  When we desire things that are contrary to God’s desires for us, our soul drifts.

When was the last time you confessed your sins to the Lord?

Pause.  Give your soul a good cleanse right now, by confessing any sins you are struggling with.  God is faithful and just to forgive your sins and cleanse you from all unrighteousness. (1 John 1:9)

Are you anxious or worried about anything in your outer world right now?

God wants us to have peace and he tells us the way to get there is by turning our worries over to him, by prayer and petition.

What is prayer?  Prayer is simply talking to God.

What is petition?  It is making a request of God and usually it is something we strongly desire.

Sometimes we can look at prayer as a duty that is draining. We’d rather do something fun or something that seems more productive in the outer world, to solve our problems.  But God knows that taking time to be still and pray over our worries and desires is what is best for us.

It is life giving!

So, this week, let’s practice the presence of God every single day.  Let’s bring our outer world and inner world into harmony through prayer. God loves you and is with you and he wants to hear from you.

Week 3 – Challenge

Take time to have deeper and more meaningful times of prayer this week.

Keep your candle burning, the music playing and purchase a small bouquet of flowers for yourself.  Let that bouquet be a daily reminder of God’s love  and presence with you.

I know this time of the year can be very busy for women,
so I created a 31 Day Christmas Prayer Journal for you!

Peace, Be Still is a 31 Day Christmas Prayer Journal
available exclusively on Amazon.

If you’d like to purchase a printable-digital copy
(so you have it right away) at half the price
click the Buy Now button below.

This Journal Contains:

  • A weekly Scripture reading about the birth of Jesus
  • A daily verse focusing on one of four themes: Jesus as our Wonderful Counselor, Mighty God, Everlasting Father and Prince of Peace.
  • A daily thought and observation to help you focus on the verse of the day.
  • A daily reflection question, with space to ponder and apply the verse to your life.
  • A daily prayer prompt, with space to write out your prayer for the day.

Here’s a Look Inside:

How is this different from other WLW journals?

1.). This journal is 7 days a week rather than just 5 days a week.

2.) This journal does not use the SOAK method.  It includes a verse for the day, a thought for the day,  a reflection question for the day and space to write your daily prayers.

3.) I will not be leading this as a Bible Study on-line.  But you can do it with friends and use the daily reflection question as a discussion question.

I will be taking a break here on-line during the month of December.  I am doing some remodeling here on the blog and preparing for some new things coming in the new year!  So be sure to check back in 2021.  I can’t wait for you to see!!!
