Song of Solomon
As we open the word of God and turn to the book of Song of Solomon, we find a love song. Actually, it’s a divinely, inspired love poem.
This book is a celebration of sexual love and while it’s not comfortable to talk about this topic in an open forum like this – Christians need to talk about this. The world is sending all sorts of mixed messages about sex. God created it to be pure and beautiful and as we’ll see in this book of the Bible – it is for our enjoyment.
“Therefore a man shall leave his father and mother and hold fast to his wife, and the two shall become one flesh.” This mystery is profound, and I am saying that it refers to Christ and the church.
(Ephesians 5:31,32)
“Then I saw a new heaven and a new earth, for the first heaven and the first earth had passed away, and the sea was no more. And I saw the holy city, new Jerusalem, coming down out of heaven from God, prepared as a bride adorned for her husband.“
(Revelation 21:1,2)
There is no greater earthly love than that of a husband for his wife and a wife for her husband. This intimacy represents the profound mystery of Christ and the church.
This is not an easy book to read. There is a lot of imagery, which is why it is rarely used to preach from the pulpit or to study in group settings. But it is God’s Word and we are dedicated to reading through the Bible in it’s entirety – so let’s get started!
