Reading My Bible Daily

Do you struggle to read your Bible daily? That was a unanimous – YES – right? ME TOO!!!

Oh how I struggle – I had NO idea how hard it would be to find sweet savoring moments with my Savior once I became a mom. I had NO idea it’d be so hard to just go to the bathroom once I was a mom!!!

It was at this point that I realized that I really wanted accountability and I sought out the ladies in my Bible Study to see if they felt the same way. They did! So I invited them to join a 6am club. The plan was for everyone to email each other right at 6am to say they were having their quiet time. This worked for a while – but slowly – reality hit that with nursing, teething babies, wet beds and fevers… early morning was not going to work for everyone.

So the name was switched by my friend Kelly – she renamed our group “The Good Morning Girls” and from there – the goal became to email each other sometime in the morning hours after we had our quiet time. Now two years later, we are reaping the benefits of our accountability group and here is what Kelly has to say about it:
Over the past 2 years we have prayed for each other, fasted together, fellowshiped, encouraged and challenged one another and have been blessed with many answers to prayer. It has been such a blessing I know I would not be where I am today if it were not for these women and the accountability we have. Between us we have 16 children so we all understand the challenges of motherhood and being wives that please God. We also understand the interruptions and disruptions that can come along with little ones and quiet times in this season of life. Some mornings it would be easy to turn off the alarm clock and get an extra half hour of sleep but I know the creator of the universe is waiting to spend time with me!

Then there is my other sweet friend and “Good Morning Girl” Kelly (we have two Kelly’s in our group) and here is what she has to say about our group:

I cannot say enough how my “Good Morning Girls” group has benefited my life. Before I became a part of this group I was lucky to get up early once a week to have a quiet time. I wanted to…I just struggled with getting myself up to get going. Since this group, I am happy to say that my quiet time is a regular thing for me, and something I have come to look forward to each morning. I love the accountability we have with each other. I look forward to hearing from each and every girl in our group each day, and when one doesn’t “check in”, we notice! The best part, by far though, has been the lasting and strong friendships I have with these girls. We are able to share our joys as well as our struggles, and I know I can count on them to “have my back” when needed. We love each other, pray for each other, and have even fasted for each other. We are sisters in Christ and I am so completely blessed to have them in my life.

And then there is our sporty Good Morning Girl – Melanie:

This group has meant so much to me over the last two years (I can’t believe it has been that long). I can honestly say that I would not be the mother or wife I am now if it were not for this group. We challenge each other, support one another and most importantly, we pray for one another. When we put a prayer request out among our group, I know it will be prayed for and kept within our group not turned into gossip or used as a conversation piece outside of our group.

We challenge each other in every aspect of our lives. Spiritually, we encourage one another to be in the Word consistantly and share with one another. Physically, we support each other by sharing our eating habits and exercise routines. We challenged ourselves by running distances we never thought we could. And mentally, we need each others support…everyday! We talk about our struggles, give and take advice from one another continually. We share the awesome things that our kids do and well, the not so awesome things as well. 🙂 But never do we degrade, or complain about our husbands…I do feel that is so important to mention!
In the end we are just five wives that love God, love our husbands, love our children and want to be the best wives and mothers we can be. We strive to do that each and everyday with each others encouragement.

And our last Good Morning Girl Aimee – just had her 4th baby boy Joel Matthew this past Saturday so we won’t be hearing from her for a few more days!

Could you use this accountability in your life?

  1. Courtney, That is such a great idea. It reminded me of the Yada Yada Prayer Group. Have you read that series? I would love to get a group started with my gals. I need to read your other post that explains the "getting started" but that will have to be on my next visit since I am sitting here w/ wet hair and need to get to work on time since it is the 1st day of school! LOL 🙂 Lana

  2. Thank you, Good Morning Girls, for sharing your hopeful story of how God has used you in each other's lives. What a fantastic testimony!

  3. I could, yes.

2 years ago, I thought EVERY Christian read their Bible every day. I had no clue that so many people don't even read once a week. Having myself gotten so far off on my reading in the past year, I know for a fact how easy it is to stop reading consistently. I could use some accountability and I need to just get back into it- there really are no excuses not to read- none.
